There are a few things you should be aware of before you go ahead with it.

The stem cells you collect are unlikely to be useful for the child itself - they are usually used to treat a sibling who has some sort of bone marrow abnormality or leukaemia.

Tirdly, as you said, it is quite expensive. The potential benefit is certainly there, but only for the child's siblings, not the child itself.
