Stretch marks - when do they usually appear?

I'm just curious to know when others have first had stretch marks appear. I'm 34 wks now and was sure I'd get them (as I got them during puberty) but nothing has appeared so far... Is there still a good chance they will develop in the last few weeks? From what I've read it sounds like the baby's growth generally slows right down in the final month so I'm kinda hoping I might get away stretch mark free!?

I had my baby at 35 weeks, and thought I'd gotten away with no stretch marks.........only to notice them about 3-4 days after giving birth! There's not too many, but they're definitely there!

Sorry, here's hoping you don't have the same thing happen!

I got mine with my first baby when I was 36 weeks. I thought I was going to escape them too LOL but they found me. with the other pgs, I have gotten them anytime from about 30wks on.

I didn't get any.....until the last week of my pregnancy. Once I hit my due date, they started to appear lol...well basically I woke up one morning and it literally looked as if Freddy Kruger had run his fingernails down my belly...bright red stretchmarks...but yeah, I thought I was soooo lucky until then...lol

I didn't get any stretch marks at all... heres hoping you're the same.

Never know whats in stall for my next pregnancy though.... that I wont get them again!

Does it have something to do with your genes?? My mum didnt get any with her first 2 pregnancies but did with my sister & I (twins) but thats kinda to be expected with twins (I think!) My twin sister didnt get any with her 2 pregnancies, & none for me so far...

Did other members of your family get them? Might be something to think about??

If they're going to happen they'll happen, just think of them as a beautiful reminder of your little miracle growing inside of you (if you do get them) thats what I hope to think if I get some

Everyone kept telling me I was sure to get them around 30 weeks. I was lucky, and got away with none at all. I thik some people are more prone to them and are going to get them, others arent.

Yeah, mine were quite late in the pg, and after as well. Kinda like deflating a balloon - you see all the stretchy wierd bits once it's gone down LOL.

hahah, just had to reply and say.. i thought i didn't have any at all.. my first was born at 39 weeks... and i still thought i didn't have any, until i got home, and my belly had gone down, i saw them all on my inner thighs! The house we were living in at the time never had any full length mirrors.. so who knows when they appeared! I just could never see past my huge belly! And hubby never mentioned anything!! But yeah.. i was pretty distraught when i found them!!

I didn't get any with my first and fingers crossed - I don't have any this time round either. My Mum and sister didn't get any either so I have always believed that perhaps you inherit the same type of skin.

I am going good too! I am 38 weeks with no stretch marks and like you i thought for sure i would get them! I have them everywhere else from adolescence.
I have been putting bio-oil on for the past 7 weeks on my belly - although i have been told if you are going to get them you will regardless of what you try...
My mum was the same though - stretch marks on boobs, thighs, bum hips and none with any of her 3 babies.... so fingers crossed

Yeah MelH i think that is true - that skin elasticity is an inherited trait!

I know my Mum has lots of stretch marks on her tummy from her 3 pregnancies, which is another reason I was assuming I'll get them. My belly grew really quickly from around 20-25wks which was when I was just waiting for them to appear! I'll have to check with Mum when hers first appeared.
Ahh...fingers crossed but I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

i only had 2 marks - tiny little things either side of my belly button. Was so excited, cause that was all i thought i would get. Until i got to about 34 weeks, now i have more. I dont know what others look like, but mine are only about an inch or so long, and mostly around my belly button area.

I had none during the pregnancy and went 11 days over with a big bub!! Now two weeks later have noticed some around my belly button... hopefully they will fade along with the pigmentation too!! Hee hee! Good luck!

    Smile Ahhhh....GOOD OL' STRETCHMARKS....

Pre-pregnancy I was a 12C in bras but I grew to a 14D almost immediatley, so I have alot of faint silvery stretchmarks mostly to my breasts. I've just started to notice red marks on my hips which look like the start of stretchmarks too. So far my belly has escaped any, and hopefully I can keep it that way.

I think there is alot of truth in genetic's in regards to whether you will get stretchmarks, which is why some women get them and others don't. I have also put on 13kg and my body has never been at this weight before so it has to show somehow. I dont mind them so much as it is worth it. But I would'nt mind being one of the lucky that don't get them!!

    Love August x

I only gained about 13kg or so in the pg.. which is the recommended amount - and includes the weight of the baby etc. So there was no excessive weight gain with me, so mine would have been baby bump. Altho I did get stretchies on one inner thigh as well.
