    Question Stretch and Sweep questions!

Today i had a check up and the OB decided to do a S&S...i wanst expecting it but agreed!

He done a VE first and found i was 2cm and head was nice and close to the cervix so thought it would help things along.

The Middy also said that my waters could possibly break a few hours after (not yet they havent) and that i may get some mucous and blood.

    A few questions:

For those who have had a S&S done....how long after did you go into labour?

Did you have to have several sweeps before it worked?

Im now loosing ALOT of mucous with blood streaks in it....is this plug?

I had my stretch and sweep after my waters had already broken. It did stir up some regular contractions for a while but didn't get me over the edge so I had to be induced. Fingers crossed it works a treat for you though. And by the sounds of what you are losing I would go with mucous plug. Can't wait to read about your little man's arrival.

    YAY!

you are in for an exciting night.
I had a s&s with my last and went into labour swoon afterwards. What your experiencing sounds pretty normal to me.

This may be a little bit late (maybe!!) lol
I had mine done when I was 3 days overdue, and caused so much trauma that I was actually admitted to the ward about 20mins after because of the sheer amount and force with which I was bleeding. It was the most painful experience - and prompted me, along with outher previous encounters, to make a formal complaint about the doctor involved.
Anyway, I didnt go into labour until I was 7 days overdue! lol so no, It doesnt always result in labour.
And no, the bleeding and mucous may not be your 'plug' either, or not enough of it to make a difference.
I had another done after I had been in labour for about 27 hours by a midwife and I dont know if that one helped or not because 2 hours later I was in the OR

So I hope your bubba is on the way, but dont be too surprised if the little man still comes when he is good and ready, no matter how many people poke his head! lol
I wish you all the best for a safe and happy arrival of your young one

S&Ss are painful and do NOTHING. Well, at least they (plural - can't remember now if I had 3 or 4) did nothing for me.

I lost blood, quite a lot, and some mucus. But my mucus plug had gone long before S&S time. If you're 2cm then you'll have already lost yours.

It is SUPPOSED to work within 24-48 hours, depending on the midwife. But that's a crock - they do them on overdue women who are quite likely to go into labour soonish anyway.

    Hi Kim
i have to agree with Rosehip fairy i had a s&s and it did absolutely nothing but give me a bout of contractions and blood loss they sent me home ( 45 min drive) only to have to drive back there later that night due to pain i could not even talk through given pain killers and sent home again only to be induced a week later
all the best that it does the trick for you

Best of luck to you. I had a S &S done on the tuesday at 1pm. I was 1-2 cm dilated and bubs was engaged and good to go - just like you. Had the same sort of bloody mucous also. My pre labour started at 9pm wednesday and full labout at 12:30pm on the thursday so pretty much 48 hours from the S&S to established labour. My waters broke by themselves a few hours later.

Cant wait to read your BA

    Hi Kimbaz,

    This may be too late.

I have had a S&S with both pregnancies. With my first I had it done at lunch time and started having contractions about 5 hours later.

2 pregnancy had S&S and went into labour 2 days later. Was feeling quite crampy though for those 2 days.

    Good luck
