Hi there - has ob appointment today. I am 40 weeks on Friday. He did an internal and stretch and sweep and I am 3cm dilated! He said he couldn't look into his crystal ball but said it was more likely I would go sooner rather than later.
Has anyone else been this dilated and gone soon - or how long did it take? Did the stretch and sweep work? He said I could be booked in for an induction anytime from now but we said we would wait for next few days just to see. I am booked in for Tues if nothing happens before then.
I know some people are opposed to inductions but my only fear is going too far and then something going wrong (which I know is VERY unlikely) but still.... happy with our decision.
Hi there
With N I was at 38 wks 3 days and i went to the OB. she did an internal (was going to do S&S) and found I was 3 cm dilated. said i would go sooner rather than later... he was born on the friday (this was a monday) after a 4 hr labour...
I think if you are dilated so far before you go into labour it may mean you are likely to have a quicker labour.
Good luck - cant wait to see your BA.
With number one I had a S & S (in UK) at 40w 2days and 1cm dilated, went into labour 24 hours later.
Had one with number 2 but nothing happened, went 9 days over with her, went in to be induced and was contracting but wasn't feeling them! had waters broken, all progressed and had her 4 hours later.
Things are happenign but slowly! Had cramps/ irregular contractions for about 4 hrs last night - they've stopped. Still a bit crampy now. Had my showe this morning - fingers crossed!
By the sound of it Mother Nature will be keen to get the ball rolling soon - 3cms is a good sign. And I hate to say it, but there is more chance of something going wrong with an artificial induction than there is from letting your labour start naturally. However, at 3cms, your chances of the induction having a successful outcome are increased. It is those who are induced with a firm or closed cervix or a dialation of 1-2 cms that have an increased risk of the baby becoming distressed as they are simply not ready for birth (the baby doesn't pay any attention to EDDs - Mother Nature is the artist and only when the masterpeice is complete will the baby wish to unveil itself!!). Ask your Ob what your score is on the Bishops Score Chart - this is used to determine the degree to which your body is ready for labour and the probable success of you being induced. The higher the number the better the probable outcome.
I know you've probably read it before, but remember that your EDD is an estimate at best and scans are not gospel. Its the system that gets it wrong - not your baby, your body or Mother Nature! The innate wisdom of these 3 factors combined overshadow anything that a person with a white coat or medical degree says to you.
38 - 42 weeks is a perfectly normal and healthy length for pregnancy (I doubt you would make it past 41 weeks by the sound of it) so try not to focus on Friday and just relax and listen to what your body is trying to tell you. Things are more likely to happen naturally that way and this is MUCH safer for you and the bub. Not to mention the contractions build up much more gently and slowly in a naturally induced labour so the baby remains calm and your ability to cope is much increased.
Have faith in your body babe - its smarter than you give it credit for.
Wishing & praying Mother Nature works her magic before Tues. All the best no matter what.

Lol - just read your latest post. Thats awesome. Mother Nature has spoken and your baby is truely on its way. Wonderful news - all the best and enjoy your bub to be.
AAAARRGGHHH Come on baby!! More show this arvo and mild cramping but that's it!! PLease tell me it will happen soon! I am planning for it happen tonight but the baby is not following my plan so far!
DH has gone to tennis! Question - is it weird to have sex when you know you're dilated? I said this to DH last night and he said that Mini (nickname for baby) would come out with a dent on it's forehead!!!
