I feel like a mad woman hunting for maternity pads each time I step foot in Coles or Woolworths! Please tell me I'm not the only one!! Some ladies have told me to get adult diapers/pads coz they are just as absorbing and cheaper too. I'm assuming these are used for incontinence....? Anyone heard of such thing or has anyone tried this before? If so, what is your verdict?
I was also wondering if those normal heavy flow pads are good enough? Especially those long overnight ones...? Appreciate any input!
Based on those threads, I bought a couple of packs of the Kotex maternity pads for the initial week or so...apparently they are pretty huge ("surfboards")...but many of the BB girls were recommending them due to their absorbency and softness...
Alot of the BB girls were also saying that after a few days or a week (depending upon their blood loss), they were able to switch over to the slimmer pads...
I bought the kotex ones at Coles the other day...think they were around $4 for a pack of 10...
So...I'm going to start with the surfboards and then hopefully switch...
I used the Kotex ones. Very absorbent! I thought they were also one of the best value for money as other brands seemed to only have 7 pads for similar money.
I used Libra Goodnights. They are really long and you can get thin ones or thick ones. With DS I used Stayfree can't remember what sort but they weren't maternity. They were good too. Good luck with your hunt.
I brought the Kotex maternity ones, but the hospital provided carefree not maternity ones just normal ones with wings. they were great, long and absorbed well! i found the kotex maternity ones too big for me!
Kotex here too! My mum bought me a pack of another brand (sorry, can't remember what it was, but had like a 'dry weave' cover) and they were not nearly as comfy. The Kotex ones probably aren't as absorbent as some, but you're changing them so often anyway that you'll probably not notice. Feels like a nice cushion which is good for if you have stitches too.
I bought 2 packets of the Kotex maternity pads after a girlfriend of mine said that I'll need at least 3 packs & recommended these ones. I only ended up using one pad from that pack as I found them to be too big. The hospital supplied pads (dont remember which type) so I used those but after 2 days I was wearing the carefree barely there which was great because like they say on the ad its like having nothing there! It does depend on how much blood you lose & for how long but I wouldn't buy too many packs as I ended up throwing out my 2 packs of maternity pads.... you can always get DH or a girlfriend to drop by the supermarket to get you some more if need be.
I hate wasting things & I especially hate buying something I dont need....
I used Kotex maternity for the first weekish... then i switched to libra goodnights...
And at the hospital they also had frozen waterfilled condoms that they stuck in a pad, which i used too, which i thought was the best invention ever for my swallon region! Also used this at home
Kotex is nice and soft but after about a week I prefer the Libra - mainly for the trivia on the little bit of paper that covers the adhesive strip. That's where I learnt that copper head snakes smell like cucumber, the electric chair was invented by a dentist and windscreen wipers and bullet-proof vests were invented by women.
I used those long icy-pop things you can buy in packs of 40 at the supermarket as ice-packs. I used the green ones as ice-packs and ate the other colours. I was tempted to offer MIL a green one but I didn't....
DEFINATLY Kotex ones!
I hated stayfree, i got one packet and ended up shoving them in the back of my cupboard.
Gotta agree with dachlostar, the trivia on the Libra ones are pretty cool though!! Who knew you could learn so much of a pad wrapper..LOL
Used a combo of pads. Initially I had to use a Libra Goodnight for the length, topped with a Kotex. After that I used Kotex around the house and saved the thin Libra maternity for going out of the house to avoid that bulky look.
I used the free ones the hospital brought in my birth packs....
But, we were using cloth nappies on DD, so i used the newborn sized free-sample disposables for my "area".... Soak them in water, toss them in the freezer, once they're frozen shove them in your pants and...Ahhhhhhhhhhhh......so much better
LMAO Dach at the thought of MIL having a green one....rofl!
The hospital provided Kotex and I bought a pack of Kotex and the Libra Goodnights with me and used them all over about a 2 weeks period then went to the thinner Libra for the next 3 weeks (unfortunately I was one of those people that just kept on bleeding for weeks but only a little bit).
I also used the Kotex ones for the first week or so - I bled quite heavily and for a long time, unfortunately - but the last few weeks was just annoying spotting that hung around for ages. This time I have bought a pack of Kotex ones and alspo have a pack of the Libra (I think) ultra-slim maternity pads, and then normal slim pads with wings for after that. Not looking forward to the whole bleeding after pregnancy thing again and not being able to use tampons... Yuk!
