Pumpgirl - sounds normal given that vena carva (sp?) artery running along the right hand side of your body, rather than the left. Oedema is apparently caused by the uterus's pressure on the arteries and veins, making it difficult to circulate the fluid throughout your body. Therefore it stores it in the tissue rather than through the blood stream.

Of course it can be a sign of Pre-eclampsia, so even though your BP is normal, just keep a close eye on any sudden swelling, particularly in your face. Better yet, get a friend or your partner to watch out for it, because even a sudden change might not be noticed by you, but might be noticed by a friend who hasn't seen you in a few days. (I had PE for my first and really thought I was just getting fat! Turns out I was harbouring 20 kgs of extra fluid, eeek!)

good luck hun, hopefully the BP stays down and you get some comfort soon.
