PPROM - Ruptured Membranes at 30 weeks - I have a question?
Hi There,
I ruptured my membranes at 30 weeks. I am really searching for answers (which i know aren't really that cut and dry) and the best option. Has anyone else been given this option?
I am now 32 + 4 days and am still in hospital (will be until baby is born). We have been told that we can enter in to the PPROM trial (study that looks at the best time to deliver a premature preterm rupture baby) this trial randomly selects you to either be induced at 34 weeks or go on to be managed up until 37 weeks (if you I go into labour naturally that won?t be stopped). Has anyone been given this option? If so has anyone taken part?
My Husband and I have read a fair bit about this via the Gynaecology institute and we are very aware that the risk of infection becomes greater the longer the membranes are ruptured (also confirmed by our doctor). What we are struggling with is the decision to take part and the risks to the baby at 34 weeks vs the risks of infection up to 37 weeks (i.e sepsis etc..) (should we be selected for this option by the hospital). It?s not something I have ever been faced with and the whole point of the trial is to determine when is safest for an unborn child to be delivered.
We have so much information on it but if anyone has taken part or is also considering I would be interested in hearing from you?
Incase anyone is wondering I am going slightly batty in hospital but i say to myself everyday this is a small price for a large gain :-). My little one is very precious to me:-)
So much depends on whether you still have any waters left, if it was a hind leak or fore leak. I had a hind leak and was told that sometimes it reseals itself. I was having scans done every second day and I still had heaps of fluid surrounding the bubs. If you are being monitored then I wouldn't take part just yet. There is a chance that you could go to nearly full term and that would be better than being delivered very early.
Again though this really is a decision that you and your OH need to make.
