Exclamation URGENT!! PLEASE READ. A way TMI info question...

I need to ask before I go chasing a hospital/midwife or dr right now.
My vagina is SWOLLEN in a MASSIVE Way I can barely walk because it's so swollen, it hurts and is burning so bad that I want to cry and i've tried so many things.
I've had a ice pack down there, I've put soothing cream on it.. .even DH sounded concerned when he saw how swollen it is.

Is this type of swelling normal in pregnancy? I remember being swollen down there with DD about the week before I was due but this is soooo much worse and so much more painful and like i said I can barely walk because it hurts and is rubbing... there are like grazes where it's rubbing so bad. (I know I did say TMI)

What should I do??? Do I call the hospital (midwives and explain whats happening) or just go to A&E - I have had HUGE amounts of discharge (I don't think it's fluid but )

    Sunshine,
I am no expert but the discomfort you are experiencing just doesn't sound right. I would call the delivery suite ASAP. They have heard every question under the sun and you will probably feel peace of mind after speaking to them. I had swelling down there last week which seemed to coincide with a bout of thrush brought on by antibiotics. It was also on a day when I had been on my feet a lot and I thought that may have had something to do with it?

Call them and let us know how you get on. In the meantime, maybe some coolpacks or ice down there? A cool shower and hairdryer on the cool setting?

Sweetie, with the symptoms you describe I'd be calling the midwife. I'd say they'll want you to come in to have a quick check.

I hope it settles down soon for you.

It could be thrush. Maybe soak in a bath with a cup of vinegar in it.

It's usually better to give them a call first, and then they can have your file ready for when you arrive.

hope they can make you more comfy.

Oh honey it sounds really uncomfortable. I also had heaps of swelling down there, for quite a few weeks beforehand. I did have quite a bit of irritation from rubbing etc, but probably not what I would call grazing iykwim. It's hard to say what you should do... If it has come on all of a sudden then I would probably call the hossy, or if it is unbearable then I would. I guess I would just follow your gut instinct. Sorry I'm probably not much help... GL

Ouch!!! Did the swelling occur suddenly or was the onset gradual? Sounds like it could be vulval varices, but the onset of pain and swelling would be reasonably gradual (days to weeks).

Hope you get some answers soon!

i remember getting quite swollen and purple but you could tell it was just excess blood due to the presure from baby. but nothing like the pain your discribing! I think it sounds like a good idea to call the birth suite and see what they say. Its probably something they have heard many times before!!!! BIG HUGS TO YOU

OUCH!!!! I am glad you are getting ti checked out, does'nt sound like something to wait around with..some swelling is normal but not to that extent, I think it will be an infection or veins????, good luck..best to get it sorted out now.

    Thanks everyone for the advice.
Have just come back from the hospital and it seems I have a version of nappy rash. I need to change the pad i'm wearing every hour but ATM it seems like it's not quite enough.
Have to use a hydrocortisone cream and a zinc based cream (just like on bubbas nappy rash) and ice every 10mins to reduce swelling.

    On a side note....
Great to find out what it is but OMG it did confirm all my negative thoughts about the hospital and why I still don't like the idea of birthing there... but as it seems I have no choice in which hospital i go to in a big city like this... i have to suck it up...

No joke - midwife checked first said this is what it looks like, dr came in put her gloves on, looked for 5secs said oh yeah thats what it is, took off her gloves and walked out no advice on what to do or how to soothe it... she jsut walked out!!! Midwife gave me all the information I needed.
I also checked out the birth suite while I was there as they were so quiet.... and it's crap! Can't wait to go back there...
