    Very very dizzy...

    Hi All,

I've been feeling very very dizzy for the past couple of hours. It kinda comes and goes.

Is dizziness a normal part of pregnancy or could it indicate something? I havent dont anything too strenuous (sp?) today, actually had some friends over so just sat round all arvo chatting..

Veronica, I had this also and I saw my GP. He took my blodd pressure and told me it was a bit low and that was probably why I was dizzy. He also said I cold ahve been a bit dehydrated.

    Hey all,

Karina and Noni - I thought that it may have been low BP but two weeks ago my BP was slightly higher than usual. Can it drop really low all of a sudden??

I had a really bad dizzy spell this morning when I went to the loo.. I went stumbling in to the bathroom and sat down and the whole room was spinning. Maybe I got up too quickly?? Not feeling too bad at the moment. Would it be worth going to the docs? I have my next checkup this Fri..

have you been taking your vitamins. i had to take so much more iron when i was pregnant otherwise i would have big dizzy spells and see spots. DH used to fret over it..hope you find out what the cause is soon. my blood pressure was perfect in my first pregnancy and i was on a high risk watch because of all the health problems of our angel baby. i remember having 3 appts a week for the last 5 weeks to monitor heartbeat etc. on the monday my bp etc was still perfect but on the wednesday i walked into the shopping centre, had gone about 30 metres from my car to seating inside and was so dizzy and short of breath that an ex work colleague who saw me sat with me for a while before i went straight back to my car and slowly home. at my checkup the next day i was immediately admitted as my bp was sky high and they said i was in early stages of pre-eclampsia. i had no swelling or any other symptoms. i was induced the following monday. so maybe just go for a checkup or ring health direct on their free call number and see what the nurse says. good luck..

Sonya - yeh I have been taking my vitamins. My doc did put me on iron tabs right from the beginning cause he said I am going to need the extra iron later on in the pgncy but I found I got too constipated so didnt take them... I do have a bit of swelling and the last week my hands have swelled up a lot and feel really tight (I am not wearing my rings anymore incase they need to be cut off!)

I think I might call up for a checkup for peice of mind....

You could also have a slight ear infection which is putting your balance off without feeling painful.

Some chemists will take your blood pressure so perhaps call a few to see if you can get that checked. I have low blood pressure and it can come on like how you've described. If that is the culprit then you need to lay down and wait for it to pass and before you stand up try squeezing you calf muscles for a few repetitions to get the blood pumping up your legs.

yeah ngala it can drop suddenly and that will cause u to feel dizzy as well as if its gone too high u will feel dizzy too.. iron is also a good point i am currently on iron injections due to severe iron deficiency deffinately something to get checked out coz if it is iron and u lose blood during birth it will go lower making u feel worse or need a blood transfusion if u dnt sort it out... its probably nothing serious but i would def go to the dr just in case and incase there is something they can give u to stop it i know stemetil is a class a medication and fine to use in pred that stops dizziness might be something to consider if ur getting it that badly.. hth all the best

Well I got my appt booked to go in this morning to get checked out. I feel a little silly going but I guess its better to be safe than sorry. Might see if I can just have my checkup today as well instead of going again on Friday. Just means I will need to go home and get my card thingy as I forgot to put it in my car!!

I recently had quite a bad couple of weeks with dizziness and doc said it was labyrinthitis which is in the inner ear... can come on for no reason or can come from an actual virus. Can take 2 to 4 weeks to settle back down properly. I hope it isn't that, but just thought I'd throw it in there in case like Sammi said, ear infection. I'd see your doc just for your own peace of mind.

Well back from the docs and it is not PE, thank gosh. BP was actually normal.

My doc ended up saying that I have a virus in the inner ear. He told me what it was called but I cant remember it!! So pretty much I have a virus that is affecting my balance and I could have it for another day or for another week or two. He's prescribed me Maxalon (I thought maxalon was used for m/s??) to take whenever I feel dizzy and has sent me home for the rest of the day! I told him I was just going back to work and he said no, the worst thing I can do right now is drive...

I wish he said to take the rest of the week off!! hehe that would be bliss as I only have 2 weeks left

Linz, the doc asked if I have had a sore ear and I said no. Its worth getting it checked out. Maybe next time you go in for an appt mention it?? My doc told me not to drive and not to make sudden movements cause thats when it will hit. He also said to watch out when rolling over in bed too!!

Its funny just sitting here and actually feeling really off balance..

Glad to hear it is only an ear infection and not anything BP related. I hope it doens't start to hurt either.
