There's no problem with immunity and breastmilk - the baby will get all the good stuff when she is born without expressing now. Just get that swab done so if you do test positive to flu A you can be monitored. It is necessary for the safety of those that you or your kids come into contact with. Remember the first run of H1N1 is much milder than the 2nd and third waves.
For me I actually stayed FLU A positive for 6 weeks - I was really shocked when my swabs came back positive when I was hospitalised prior to Miss I's birth... This of course then put everyone in the maternity unit at risk I felt awful...
Deb - I am waiting on a call back from my Ob. Have spoken to the midwives at the hospital and they weren't too concerned as long as I was feeling well enough with no spiking fevers, bub was moving etc. They did ask if I'd been overseas, in contact with anyone who had been etc.
They wanted to me to run it past my Ob though and I am still waiting for him to call. He keeps pretty crazy hours so he may call this evening.
Being Friday afternoon, the earliest I could see my GP would be Monday (if I could get an appt at late notice) and I'd really prefer not to go to the hospital if I can avoid it - one, because I am really not feeling well enough to be waiting around for hours and I would have to go alone because MIL is away and we have no one to watch the children and two, I don't want to spread my germs around.
I'm sure that your obs will be happy to rest on you so long as your temps are controlled and you are not really ill. I guess just from my personal experience it was important to know as I potentially infected a whole ward... I am also the infectious diseases nazi - by my own full admission... I hate spreading germs and having them spread to me and mine. I hope you are feeling much better soon - your Boo is safe and sound in there - if anything your coughing will be a nice rythmic relax for her... Tuck yourself up with panadol, honey and lemon and a tim tam!
Willow - many GP's are referring patients to hospital for swabs for H1N1 - did you have the flu shot this year?? It *shoud* cover you for influenza A. Just check with your GP before you go. They may be referring to the hospital. Also, if you need to go to the hospital, ring first!!!!!!! They are trying to minimise H1N1 transfer and some have clinics through the day for swabs if the volume demands it. If there is a concern, they should be having a priority procedure in place.
