I am starting to have trouble sleeping - well more than before.
I sleep on my side - right and left. I get REALLY sore hips so I have to keep moving from side to side as they ache really badly. I use a belly wedge that works well to take the pulling feeling away from my belly.
At about 4-5 in the morning my hips and back will be aching so much that I have to sit up - so I have 2 pillows propped up on my bed head then a tri pillow and then another pillow to support my back - so I am in a semi reclined position (not fully sitting upright) and I can go back to sleep for a couple of hours before waking again (with sore neck but that another storey!!)
My questions is am I elevated enough to not be putting preasure on the artery in my back and cutting off blood and oxygen to bub and me??
Anyone got any sure fire sleep positions that will help me!!?
Thanks in advance!
Love
Kate

: spelling DOH!
I know how you feel (even though you are more advanced in pg then me)
I've been tossing and turning for weeks now from side to side as I'm too frightened to sleep on my back (I'm a back sleeper tho!!) and sleeping on my back nowadays makes me feel nauseous as bub is getting bigger so i try to avoid it. I too get burning hip pain either side if i don't move over enough so i'm waking every 45-1hr and it's so hard to get a good sleep the last few weeks..... so tired!!
Been seeing a physio who helps me with my hip pain.... you should try that..?
Also, read it's okay to sleep on your back as long as you feel okay and you don't feel unwell doing it and have a pillow tucked under your right bum so it elevates you on one side iykwim? so you are kinda half sleeping on your back and half on your side! although at your stage, i'm not sure.... best to side sleep.
I find sleeping on my side with a body pillow or even a normal pillow between my legs relieves it, i have really bad back pain but find if i put a pillow behind me it stop me from laying flat on my back but also takes the pressure off my hips too. Hope it gets better for ya soon, not long to go, your on the home stretch.
I too have started to have BIG problems! I too suffer hip pain and also lumbar and thoracic back pain and breathlessness!!! It's a drag!
I have one pillow either side of my belly to support the weight if I'm on either side but thinking of investing in a bellybean - one pillow instead of two. I also have a pillow between my legs which eases the pressure on the hips and lower back greatly! My brother injured his back years ago and this is the first thing the Ambos said to do and it's really comfortable. Only issue with that is when you swap sides you have to fiddle with the pillow but I guess that's our lot at the moment isn't it!
I have been enjoying sleeping flat on my back or semi on my back for the entire pregnancy until now Now I can't breathe properly as bubs is taking up too much space so often have to almost sit up - which then hurts my backside after a while!
For those of you wondering it's perfectly fine to sleep on your back! You body will let you know (as it has done me now) if you need to move! I was even woken in the middle of a lovely slumber and had to move because I needed more air LOL
Ahhh the joys!! It's no wonder we are tired during the day!
Good luck with the pillow positioning!
If all else fails get DH to give you a rub ahhhh Any excuse will do
I will try the pillow b/w the lgs and see how that goes - I have tried it once but I got jack of it but Im willing to try anything now for more than an an hour of sleep at a time!
Ren - its gets SO much worse!! But it awesome as well - I willnever complain to badly about it!!
Rainforest - I will give the pillow b/w legs a go!
Alyssa - I have abody pillow but find it to big and combersome and eveytime I move I was hitting DH with it! maybe I could give it another go!
Bella - yep we have a bit to deal with these days huh! But tottaly worh it! I would sit up all nite if it meant that bubs was all good!! I find when I lay down forst at night that I cant breath ether - all squished up!!
