what's the first thing you do when you realise you're in labour?

I am 37wks pregnant with my fifth baby and every single time i've realised thats its finally the real deal the first thing i always do is...

    shave my legs !

...although only to up to the knee cause can't be bothered with the rest,...and shave under the arms too of course. As for the bikini line...forget that! lol

lol .. with my son i was in prelabour for near 2 days then my waters broke and i was straight to the hospital lol .. I guess he was my first, I stayed for antibiotics for GBS anyway. And I was only 2cm. This time coz I'm attempting VBAC they want me in straight away. Pfft, I'm planning on having a shower and shaving my legs and underarms and downstairs .. lol .. then i'll dry my hair, maybe straighten it if i feel like it, call my dad (hes minding my son), call my doula wait for her to come (shes 1 1/2 hours away) then go to the hospital with her (im out of town - 25 mins) my dad lives in the same town too, so If its a decent hour and the weathers good I'll walk to his to help things along .. Thats my plan anyway .. who knows if it'll happen lol ..

    With no1 I timed them

NO2 I was in a hospital bed for another reason when my waters broke and it was buzz buzz buzz for a midwife. I was too scared to move and completely flooded everything. Then once the shock sunk in and the middy helped me clean up I sent DH a text message to come in as the baby would be born that day. It didn't sink in at the time that it was night time and he was probably sleeping and wouldn't get there until the morning. He surprised me but and turned up 30mins later (after driving 60kms to drop eldest DD off) still haven't asked him how fast he drove 4yrs later. Oh in my text message I said contractions were 2mins apart so I think he didnt think he had any time to spare. And he was dressed in his Sunday best!

I called my H, doula and sister then I went to the cinema to relax in the aircon. My labour progressed out of pre-labour faster than I expected though and I had to head home about 40mins into the movie.

I sat around in complete denial and tried to read all sorts of articles on BB to convince me I wasn't in labour. I was only at 36 weeks after all!

Eventually, I woke DH and he called the hospital... we then showered, dressed, ate breakfast and hurriedly threw stuff into a bag (forgetting the camera!) as I'd packed nothing.

As for the legs and bikini line... meh! Didn't even think about it. When things really get going you don't care about the state of your bits. I never tidied up for my FS, and I wasn't going to tidy up for my OB!

well i was determined to get the kids back to school before i had DS2 so of course 9am on the dot as the kids are lining up to go into their new classrooms on the first day back at school- i get my first contraction! However i had made a coffee date with the mum's from school and i wasnt going to miss that, so i said goodbye to the kids and went off for coffee!! When i got there - cx were 3 mins apart- oops- had my milkshake, then went to the supermarket to grab some stuff for dinner for the kids, and then drove home. Thought i better as they were about 90 seconds apart by this stage- it was around 10.30. Rang DH, OB and hossy when i got home- they wanted me to call an ambulance as cx were soo close but i didnt want to.
Had a shower, made sure i emptied my bowel, and shaved and tidied up everything !
then i thought i better go to hossy! Got there about 12pm and had DS at 2.50pm!!! so plenty of time - was gonna go back and pick up the kids from school, but DH didnt think that was a good idea lol

Well, for #2 I was booked in to be induced so no surprise on the day, but I went into labour at 3am.

Realise "oh heck, she's coming early" and engage panic mode.
Have breakfast, get dressed, last minute packing, ring hospital, go to hospital (got there at about 5am), have baby.

    No induction!

This time its going to depend heavily on what time of day it is and what the kids are up to. If its not in the middle of the night, first thing I do is ring my parents so they have as much time as possible to get here to look after the kiddlywinks.
