Where were you when your waters broke?

    Hi!

I was wondering where and when peoples waters have broken.

It probably sounds a bit silly, but I have all these silly worries about different scenarios, like:
    - if you're at the supermarket or the fish and chip shop or something, do you just try and leave discretely and pretend it never happened, or do you try and clean it up?
    - if it happens when you're sitting on the couch or in the car, does it ruin the fabric? Can you get the smell out ( I did hear somewhere that it leaves a horrible smell if it's allowed to dry)? Same with carpet and other fabrics...
    - if you're at work or a friends house...

Anyway, be great to hear your story and how you handled the situation.

    Thanks!

My waters broke and gushed at Coles. There is no way you can pretend it never happened. But there was also no way I could try and clean it either. The security guard just told us to leave it all and she would "take care of it"

At the hospital, about an hour before I felt I needed to push DD out and after I had been having contractions for most of the day.

I was at home, sitting on my bed talking on the phone (to the amusement of those who know me ). There was a good flow, but it didn't gush everywhere, so wasn't much mess, in fact I thought I'd wet my pants LOL! Fortunately I was only a few steps away from the ensuite where I could check it all out in tiled comfort, and discover that it was indeed my waters, as urine isn't normally pale pink .

ETA D, I laughed so hard when I saw your name in this thread!!! I've always remembered your dramatic story

The first 4 times at the hospy by the hospy. The 5th time it was when I was transitioning, so Harrys head meant I didnt even notice. No gushing mess at all until he was born.

Mine have only broken naturally once. It was actually more of a trickle which started about 1/2hr after I lost my mucus plug and while I was at work. Eventually a gush came, but that was right before my DS was born.

First one was stepping out of our EH holden....much to DH's horror....but it was only a trickle.

Nate's was on the leather lounge waiting for DH to come back from my godfathers funeral 600km away. Cleaning up gave me something else tothink about.

Both times I was at the hossy and well and truly in labour - and both times they were artificially ruptured. With DS2 I was fully dilated and just had my show with the contraction that made me want to push, and they still hadn't broken. So the ob took matters into her own hands.

With DS#1 - induced. Dr broke waters.

DS#2 - waters broke at home - thought i was wetting myself. Didnt gush out - was a continuous trickle. Rest came out a hospital.

DS#3 - induced. Midwife broke waters.

I was told to put a waterproof matress protector or something similar on my bed leading up to my due date. Apparently you dont want your waters staining things !

I was in bed, asleep. I woke up and thought I'd wet myself, and as I stood and dashed to the bathroom I got the gush... and, like Janie, discovered that it was indeed my waters as urine isn't normally pink! It was pretty much all contained by my undies and PJ pants (there's a good reason for wearing long PJ pants, even in Summer!) so didn't actually get any on the bed or the carpet. I think if I hadn't been lying on my side facing the edge of the bed we would have been in a lot more trouble!

my waters didn't break until i had been in active labour for over 16 hours and was pushing my daughter out. i was sitting on the toilet at the time, and they broke in the middle of a contraction and were squirted at such high pressure into the toilet bowl making a most almighty noise!! neither myself or my DH (who was sitting with me at the time) knew what had happened, and he said " oh my god, is the baby in the toilet?!" ha ha...
i had been prepared with waterproof mattress protectors and towels on my mattress and in the car since about 35 weeks (i didn't go into labour until 42 weeks!), and didn't need any of the precautions in the end... this time around, it hasn't even occurred to me to try and protect anything!!

#1- Climbing into bed, and they went with a pop I actualley heard and felt the pop. I was only a couple of steps from the bathroom, so managed to get into there before I started to gush.

#2 I was in full on labour, just about to start pushing, my waters broke and I delievered about 15 mins later.

i was in Borders bookstore on a thursday night, dh was on the otherside of the store. i reached up high to grab a book when i felt a 'pop' and then a huge gush! most of it soaked into my jeans but there was still a puddle on the floor! i grabbed dh, tied his jumper around my waist and ran out of there (more like a waddle in my state lol) i was so embarrassed i couldnt tell anybody, i didn't even notice if anyone was looking at me! it was like a comedy!

Omg I am so glad I'm not one of you whose broke in the shops!!!

First - c/s no waters breaking.
    Second - hospy broke them.
Third - spontaneous in the birthing suite standing up.... never knew there could be so much fluid in one person's tummy!! OMG it was like Niagara Falls and was still coming out as he was born! I am soooooo glad it didn't happen at home or in the car or anywhere else for that matter.
