Question Worried, little movement at 29 weeks

    Hi all,

    I am feeling quite nervous...

The movements I feel from my baby are still really irregular and quite light and fluttery with only the occasional significant kick. I often don't feel any movement for three or four hours at a time.

I had an ultrasound last week and all was good but compared to all the posts I read and friends experiences the movements i get seem to be so inconsistent and gentle.

The placenta is upper two thirds anterior and the baby is sitiing in frank breech. Could these things cause movementes not to be felt?

Does anyone have any similar experience, is there a normal amount of movement I should feel at this stage?

    Thanks

    gkd

    Hi there!

I know that the way the baby is positioned and where your placenta is can affect the movements you feel from bubs so that may be the case. With not feeling bubs move for 3-4 hours I would prob just say that your bub is sleeping and having a bit of downtime. Everyone's bubs have different amounts of movements so I guess you can't really compare it to anyone elses.

As you said you had an ultrasound last week and everything was good. Have the movements changed since then?? If you are really concerned I would contact your care provider and ask them what they think...

    Hugs,

    Danielle

Have you tried having a cold drink ( like iced water) and sitting quitely for a while (maybe a half hour to an hour).

That's what the midwifes suggested to me when I had this same question while pregnant with my son.

Having an anterior placenta can muffle movements and make them less noticible.

If you are still worried, its always a good idea to have a chat to your OB/midwife, they should be able to advise you best.

    Good luck, I hope everything's A-OK!

    Hi GKD
Having an anterior placenta will reduce the amount of movements you feel. Also your baby’s movement pattern will change through your labour. You will probably find that in the next couple of days your baby becomes a little more active.
As rayray suggests a icy cold drink can cause your baby to move but a long as your baby is giving you 10 or so movements in a day there is nothing to worry about.

GKD - movements are the most miraculous feeling but they also strike fear into our hearts too. Big hugs to you - I truly understand... :hugs:

What you need to be mindful of is a change in the movements. By what I hear you say things are the same but you feel that they are not the same as others. Remember that babies are all different. Some are more active, some are less active - some will give you big wallops that bring tears to your eyes (my dd4 was an avid kicker!) my older daughter and son were gentle movers and my last daughter was more of a kicker too.
I had anterior placentas with all of my babies - think of your placenta as a pillow on the front (anterior) of your belly - so this will cushion some of those blows.

If your u/s looked good and your movement pattern hasn't changed I would just relax into it knowing that this little baby has it's own rythum and it is a gentle one!
