    Catholic primary schools

I am thinking of putting DD into a Catholic primary school. We are not Catholic though and I just wanted to know how much emphasis they place on religion and if you think this will cause problems and it would be better to just go public rather.

    TIA for any info

Both my brother and I attended a catholic primary school after going to a public. We are not catholic, and did not find it to be a problem. Yes you do study religion as part of the curriculum, but it was never shoved down our throats, just basic history of it, the rituals etc. Was quite interesting, and if I remember correctly we touched on other beliefs too. There were points where the kids would do reconciliation, first communion, confirmation. You could do it if you weren't catholic, or opt to do something else during that time, private study, games, it was always fun and interesting. They still taught science, and all I remember from my time there was good. There were lots of kids from all denominations; hindu, muslim etc. I would recommend a catholic primary school for sure hth

I cant see why they wouldnt accept your family into their school parish...and even though your not religious...you will certainly be around religion should you decide to send your child to a catholic school.
We have sent our DD#1 to a catholic school - my DH nor i are religious, yet both catholics. We are surrounded by catholicism every day, my DD talks about God all the time, and was teaching my DD#2 the 'Our Father' the other day whilst they were lying in bed together....im surrounded by parents that attend church every sunday...i think if your ok to be around relgigion like this (coz after all , you are sending your child to a catholic school), then yeah, it may be the route for your child. But if that aspect bothers you, i would prob re-consider what you want out of catholic school in the first place.....

If their numbers are too high, other Catholic kids might come in first, so you may miss out, but this doesn't happen often.
We went to a Catholic primary school & so did my DD for a year. When my younger sister started they ended up with 40 enrollments for that year & had to split the class, so I really can't think of a reason they'd say no, if they can start a first time ever second class.

We have no problem being around religion at all. It will probably be good for all of us. I think I am going to enrol her. They do have places available. Thanks for the replies.
