Finding a school - what would you do?

I have enrolled Lily in the local primary school for next year. However, we will be moving in december, most likely when the school holidays start. We don't know which suburb we'll be moving to but it won't be our current one. All the local schools here are zoned so you have to live in the suburb to go there. So cannot enrol her into a different school until next year.

So, should i still send Lily to the one she is currently enrolled even though we won't be living there? They won't know our new address until the first day of school. Can they legally not let her attend when i tell them we have moved?

I am not sure of the legalities of letting her start when you have moved before she starts, I know you usually have to prove your address to enrol by showing water rates bill or electricity bill etc.
Its usually better to go to the local school anyway as that means her friends will live close by and she will be able to get to school more easily.
Its difficult moving in the hols cause then she can't attend orientation days etc for the school she will attend. Do you have any idea of where you'll go?? Can you arrange it before school breaks up (16th Dec) even if you don't physically live in the house at least you can enrol her in the school.

Talk to the school or call the department. There has to be some sort of procedure in place - this wouldnt be the first time it has happened.

The thing is, the orientations for all the other schools were done in july and august. i didnt know i needed to enrol that early. The one she is currently enrolled in though starts next Monday.

I know you have to prove where you live. I have already done that and already filled out all of the forms.

I cant enrol her into a different school because we will be renting so will have no idea until then which suburb well be living in and we just cannot afford to pay our current mortgage plus rent for a house we wont be living in. I have an idea on which suburb i would like to live in but there is no telling we will get it when we do apply, iykwim?

We are going through a similar thing too. I would talk to the school she's enrolled in and see what they say. It shouldn't matter if you miss orientation - the school we are moving to said they will cover it all for kids that missed out.
