Dd2 is off to school next year too. She will be 5 in feb so probably one of he youngest and also loudest! We will have about 4 prep classes with about 320 kids in total at the school which is walking distance. She is looking forward to it, she tried on a uniform (dd1's old one) and wore it to school pick up on Friday.

I worry about that youngest stuff to. Dd's birthday is in June, the 15th, so she really will be one if the youngest. She will only be 4.5 when she starts.... I worry for her, but daycare/kinder says she is ready.

My little guy starts next year too. He'll be 5 at the end of Feb. He is soooo ready to go to school....not sure if they are ready for him yet though lol.
School is the local one within walking distance. They are awesome. It has about 250 kids. Not sure on class size or number of classes yet. Probably only one of 25 though.
Here in the NT we call that year Transition and so we call the kids 'trannies' lol.
Lucky DS will actually get new uniforms. Ours are unisex but DD1 is ginormously tall and started school in size 10, so no hand me downs for a couple of years
No enrollment for him as his sister already goes and he goes to the attached preschool. Next term though they do about 6 sessions in the Transition classroom during preschool time.
Hopefully he'll get DD1's current teacher.

My DD is starting what is now called Foundation in VIC (used to be called Prep) next year. She will no doubt be one of the youngest as turns 5 on April 2. But she is ready and I don't see the point in holding her back just so she won't be the youngest ITMS. She is already bored with 4 year old kinder!

My DS2 will be starting too. He'll be going to the school his big brother (who will be in yr 5) so he already knows his way around the school, some teachers know him too, etc. They have a transition program called smooth start where they do 8 x 1.5hr sessions once a week at the school with the kindy teacher and a teacher from the preschool. It's been great and he loves it.

Thats funny, I've never heard it called Foundation - We're still calling it Prep. Is that at a state school?

Yes it's a state school. All the paperwork we have received refers to 'Foundation' and then at the bottom of one page is this note:
With the introduction of the Australian Curriculum the first year of school changes from 'Prep' to 'Foundation'.
Maybe it is being phased in???

Why do they keep changing things that don't need changing???!!! It's just confusing. I'm still getting used to the idea of the existence of prep and the changed starting ages.

DS will be 5 in October, starting reception/prep in Feb next year (right around when bub no.2 is due!! arghh!!)
He is so excited to start big school, and turn 5 lol, I'm just gonna be a bawling mess :/
Haven't enrolled him yet, but should get on to it as the kindy does pre entry tours and half day orientations next term for all the kids starting at the primary school next door.

We have 4 orientation days coming up in November for 2 hours at a time. What are other schools doing?
Also up until the week ending 5th March our school doesn't have Foundation kiddies come in on Wednesday so like a rest day. I am about to return to work 2 days a week but have to build back up to 3 in Feb and of course one of my work days will be Wed's! So next step will be trying to figure out what we will do on that day.
I have to say I'm a bit terrified of working and having to figure out all the holidays etc. we don't have family here. It just all seems so much easier with day care!

Ours has before & after school care & vacation care. I think DS will probably have to attend vacation care at least 2 days a week.

I know they have before and after school care, so I'm hoping they will have some sort of holiday care. We have a parent meeting end of October and I think all those details will be discussed. Fingers crossed!
