My DD usually has 1 or 2 a month. I don't have to send money and do all the ordering online - so no way things get lost or missed
She usually gets a chicken salad box, each one lasts 2 lunchtimes (they put it in the staff fridge for her)
Lunch orders are tough for us as DD is a type 1 diabetic and I have to plan her carb intake and note it all down so the aide knows how much insulin to give her. She did ask for a slushee tonight but not knowing the sugar/carb content I had to say no.
She does also get the occasional sausage roll, but she's such a veggie and salad girl she loves sharing her food with her aide (who is also diabetic!)
we let DD1 have lunch orders about once or twice a term. We usually buy a 'meal', which she gets a sandwich, a popper, a piece of fruit and a packet of chips or a donut. It costs about $5. Or it might be a 'specIal lunch order' where everyone who orders that day gets the same meal and it is sone thing special like pizza Or a sausage sizzle. Angel only likes lunch orders to join in, so she will usually be eating similar food to what we might give her anyway - but our canteen actually offers a very broad range of food both healthy and unhealthy. I do know some kids have lunch orders everyday, I like to keep it as a treat.
Ours is on a Wednesday and Friday. I have put my name down to be a helper, and will be helping twice this term. I will have to let him have an order those days! It has a pretty small menu. DS i know will prob go for a hot dog.
