    Cool NAPLAN results

Does anyone have their child's NAPLAN results yet? I don't. And just wondering if it is the slackness of the school as per usual or they really aren't out yet.

I think that's what the test is called. It's nationwide i believe.

um... what's NAPLAN? Is it the standardised tests that they do every 3 years? I think it's 3 years...

It used the be called the Basic Skills tests that they do in yrs 3, 5, 7 and 9. Now it's called National Assessment Program - Literacy And Numeracy.

It used to be called the AIMS test here.

I think it still might be called the AIMS here in Victoria. My DD has done it in the past... it's interesting... even though she is only an average student at her school nationally it shows that she is above average... and 2 years ahead of the average for literacy. She's in year 9... I wonder if they do it still?

No i think it is NAPLAN here in VIC too.

DS sat for his grade 3 test earlier in the year.

Okay the school isn't being slack THIS TIME. I wish they were though, i would've loved getting into them AGAIN!

It's all NAPLAN now so it able to be a reflection of the entire country and not state by state.

Ah ok... in confusion i just went to DD's education folder and found the results for an AIMS test... but that was done 2 years ago in year 7. I asked her if she has done a NAPLAN test and she knew what I was talking about and said that she did it weeks ago.

I just picked Lindsay up off the bus and he has his results today - at a quick glance I can see that he got 3 band 6's (Language conventions are split into Spelling and Grammar and punctuation and both were band 6's), band 5 for Writing and band 4 for Numeracy - which isn't surprising as maths isn't his strongest point. but still exceptionally well and above the national and school average and well above the national and school average for the other ones. I'm really happy with his results so I'm off to have a proper read of it now.

OK, I've had a really good look at them and it's really surprising at the spectrum of ability for this age group. The minimum requirement is that all yr3 students get Band 2 results and I think that's a really low expectation - the Band 2 level is so basic and I would have expected that they would be aiming to have a minimum of Band 3. And also interesting is that in the table of results which show which answers they got right, and the ones they either didn't attempt or got wrong they also have a % figure of how many children in the state got the particular question correct and for the Writing section not one single child got the same 14 questions right. So I assume that those questions may have been a fair bit harder and possibly based on stuff they haven't learnt yet, otherwise there would at least be a few who would have gotten those questions right.
