Im not too sure what the legal age to leave school is but when I left it was 14 9months. So really if she *couldnt be bothered* because of her own reasons (maybe she knows he causes trouble, maybe hes refused to go back) then i'd probably encourage him to look for a job or go to TAFE.
I dont think school is for all children, some do better in the real world, iykwim?
Hope he doesnt bum around too long though - my 24 yo brother still sits around playing PS3 while bringing in those tax dollars while others actually work!
Legal age to leave school as of 1st Jan. last year is 17 unless you are participating in full time work or a mix of work and study (to the equivilent of full time hours).
Any parenting payments/YA will be affect if he isn't participating in either of these.
Not sure where you are in Sydney, but where I work we offer programs kids like this can attend if they aren't participating in eucation/training.
