After discussions at my mothers group I have now realised that we need to get our DS registered for the school of our choice. The problem is we don't know which school!
Does anyone know of any publications that can assist with your school search? We are living on the Northern Beaches in Sydney and if anyone can make any recommendations of good schools that would also be helpful?
I think thats really only if you are interested in a private school. You probably wouldnt have problems getting him into a public school even if you enrolled at the last minute, but from what I've heard you need to enrol really early for a private school.
I guess you just need to look at what you want from the school? Public school, catholic school, anglican school etc.. Are you still going to be living in that area when he's old enough to start school, what facilities you want the school to have (sporting, music, gifted & talented program etc), small classes/big classes etc.
Sometimes they have some interesting articles in those "Sydneys Child" magazines about choosing a school. You can get the magazines for free from chemists, childcare centres, early childhood health centre... I'm sure there would also be books you could buy at Borders or Dymocks or other bookshops, but I personally think its just as good to use your common sense and work out what you want and find a school that fits in with your needs and beliefs. I;ve worked out which school I want to send my daughter to just from research on the internet.
I think private schools have the long enrolling list.
Catholic schools you only need to enrol them the year before they start (what we're now looking at)
Public schools you enrol anytime
Where abouts on the Northern Beaches are you? What school were you thinking of?
