How to get BO smell out of a shirt

I was hoping someone might be able to help. I have a cotton shirt that I love to wear, but whenever I do, it seems to omit a funny BO smell from the armpits. I first wore it during summer during some very hot weather. I use plenty of Deoderant, and never usually get BO, but for some reason this shirt seems to have it. It is getting to the point where I don't want to wear the shirt because I am so self conscious about it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the odour, something I could soak it in perhaps?? Thanks for any ideas or help.

Rub bi carb soda into it :)

some materials just react with the skin that way... hope it doesnt happen when you wear it again, i know i had two different colour tops in the same material and everytime i wore them i stunk... it was a cotton polyester blend....

Hi Jennie13, thanks for the tip about the Bicarb, just curious, would I try and form a paste and rub it into the shirt, or wet the shirt and rub in??!??!

The bicarb paste may work, but if it is a poly/cotton blend, then may not. I have had tops like that and had to throw them, as the moment I got just a bit warm they would go stinky again and had tried bicarb on them.

I was given the tip to use mouthwash on my skin, and I have used it on a shirt with a similar issue. It kills the bacteria that causes the odour, has worked for me xx

I had this problem with a light cottony shirt last summer. A hot water soak in the enzyme-boosted napisan (actully it was the aldi one) fixed it.

I usually do a paste on a wet shirt :) hope it works for you, worth a try!! goodluck!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I do have Nappy San, hadn't thought about that. I will try each of the suggestions one at a time and cross my fingers one will work. The shirt is just a cotton one, and I have others similar, but this is the only one that does this. I will start giving it a go tomorrow, thanks girls for the ideas :) Really appreciate it.

I googled this as I had the same issue with one of my shirts. It was recommended to spray diluted vinegar on the shirt, leave for 10 mins or so then put it in a regular wash. It truly worked! I now do it as often as possible. I have a spray bottle in the laundry with diluted vinegar in it and I just give mine, DH & DS1's clothes a spray before putting them in to wash.

Ohhh sounds easy to have ready made how much vinegar do you need to water?

I used 1/2 & 1/2 but apparently undiluted is best.

I washed the shirt yesterday trying the Vinegar option. Of course the true test now is to wear the shirt. I will let you all know how it goes and if I had any success, and if not, I will try one of the other great suggestions. Thanks all

I had to look at this thread when I saw it because I have had the same problem with one of my shirts recently!!!

I worked at the election a few weeks ago and a few hours in I was like 'Who stinks? Sniff, sniff, sniff......NO!!! It's not me surely!!!" But alas.....it was. I couldnt get home to change or get anyone to bring me a top so I was stuck with it. I just tried to keep my arms down as much as possible and pitied the poor people I was working with....:redface:

Anyway, wore the same shirt yesterday.....after being at the hairdressers for 2 and a half hours I get up to leave and woof, there's that stink again!!! Oh no!!! How embarrassing!!!

Going to soak it now......I have a pink one exactly the same and no prob.....the purple is just the problem for me : )

Okay so my baby brain didn't remember this thread correctly ARGH!!! lol

I'm using my maternity bras from my last pregnancy and cause I was extremely ill after Ethan was born I produced a HUGE amount of sweat and my bras STINK!!!! DH says he can't smell them but I'm not brave enough to put them too close to his nose :lol: so I decided to do what I read on BB and made a paste of what I THOUGHT was correct and cover the under arm areas of my bras then put them in the wash... it was on the way to the washing machine I realised that it wasn't cornflour I was meant to make the paste with but baking soda.... Ooopppps

I recently read Vinegar does work wonders. I googled and found a website called Vinegar Tips....heaps of ideas other than laundry!

My sister does the vinegar trick to her shirts that do this. Works wonders for her.
