Toddler & Kids Make-up ???

* while I understand people will have varying ideas on this PLEASE be respectful of other members, if you can't say anything nice then don't say it at all *

I VERY RARELY wear make-up (lucky if it's twice a year) but when I do the girls want some (as kids do) so they put on some lip smackers & a bit of eyeshadow.
DD1 has also had a 'makeover' by DP's 10yr old cousin (very cute).

She got some lip smackers and other little kids glosses for x-mas but she's been asking for kiddy make-up to play with, she has the plastic pretend stuff but I saw some cute kids kits in k-mart and thought maybe the Easter bunny could bring her some with her camping slippers & new big girls dressing gown?

So what do you think, is she too young for pretend make-up, it would never be worn in public, only at home??? She's 3 and DD2 is 2?

I think three is too young. She is at risk of it accidentally ending up everywhere excet where it is supposed to!

I bought DD a wooden cosmetic set for her 3rd birthday... Not sure how I feel about real stuff, my 5 yr old only wears lip gloss

The other thing to consider is that some of the cheap stuff is pretty icky. If they are prone to sensitive skin, I'd pass.

Personally I only give eggs at Easter so I definitely wouldn't give makeup. I tend to think three is too young, but that's me.

I think 3 is a bit young but I realise my daughter is 8 months lol. I love makeup and wear it almost every day, so I can't see how DD will not be interested. I'd suggest making your own (to an extent). So homemade lipglosses and eyeshadows. Much better for her delicate skin than those cheap made in china kits from the shops (and if the packaging is a big drawcard, make your own or buy the crappy kits and replace the makeup with your own.

Lipgloss - coconut oil, almond oil, beeswax and a little beetroot juice for colour.

Eyeshadow- cornstarch, a little water, make a paste, add some natural colour, let it set.

My DD just turned 3 this week and she got some kids lipstick from her great-nan. I think she is too young. She loves it though. It's the cheap kids crap and it's a light colour and you can't even see it when she puts it on at least. It came with lipgloss too which I confiscated when she squeezed it into her mouth, lol. But my nan got it because when she visited recently every time she went in to do her make-up DD was after her and asking to have some on too. So it was just a little extra present so she could be like Nan, which was cute. I'm hoping she forgets about it in a couple of weeks though so I can ditch it, mean mummy that I am.

at 3 my kids would wear lip balm but not lip gloss. Now DD is 4 she wears lip gloss and loves it, but I wouldn't let her wear much more than that apart from the occasional make-over at home which is always way OTT and a bit of fun. The boys will wear some too and all end up looking like clowns. But I wouldn't be encouraging them out like that.

a friend had some given to her kids for christmas by her inlaws, at a bbq round their house the girls (and boys) all got into it, covered in the stuff, more like face paint really. it was a bit of fun , all kids aged between 2 and 5. what i didnt like was everyone making a huge fuss about how pretty/beautiful/grown up they were. made dd1 feel like she needs it to be pretty!
DD1 has had lipgloss as gifts before but only 'to make her lips soft' not in a beautification way. and she calls it 'lip blossom' which is too cute!

I hate that too beckoes!! That's everyone's response to just about everything DD wears. Ugh! But no one understands my point about it.

It's definitely not a 'pretty' thing, we tell our girls they are beautiful inside and out but she thinks it's 'pretty' IYKWIM.
It wouldn't be outside the home and I find it no different to her playing dress ups, stealing my heels & giggling while trying to wear my bra.

I'm in 2 minds really, don't want her growing up too quick but don't want to make a big deal out of experimenting with things IYKWIM?

I don't think so. It's apart of play and imitating the bestest person in their life (mummy!) I have huge issues with things like pageants and stuff... But play and pretending. To me is the same as pretend cooking.. ds has recently taken to covering himself on beads like mummy. He's been wearing a bracelet the last two days. I'm personally flattered XD

Dd2 is3 and she got face paint crayons for her birthday which I think is better at this age than make up, although probably messier.

Dd1 is 6 and wears lip gloss. She did go to a party recently where she had make up up on. I wasn't overly impressed but let it slide.

It is what you make it, if its a part of dressing up and its a bit of fun at home and its not turned it to how beautiful make up makes you and you need it to look pretty then fine. if it becomes something they want to do every day i think id have a problem personally. When we stayed in the uk with my mum and sister they wear alot of makeup and i had to kick my sister when DD1 asked why she was putting all this stuff on her face and she said to make her self look pretty and nice....we went with ''cause she has dry skin and it makes her skin feel better'' ( i dont really wear makeup!) :)

Personally I think its too young but I'm not a big makeup wearer myself so that possibly affects my opinion. My concern is mainly based on what others have raised - that you need make up, beautiful clothes etc to be beautiful yourself.

The girls have little lipbalms that they can wear and they sometimes wear my "special" lipstick, which is pawpaw balm. Otherwise, we all have very sensitive skin and so I can only wear a couple of brands of makeup, which happen to be really expensive ones so I'm not too keen on the girls playing with it, and I don't want them using gross kiddy stuff with their skin. Mum put lipstick on the both once and they both had a huge reaction.
