Is it lame or naieve to say that I'm REALLY looking forward to labour?
Well I booked an appt with the GP to get this preg confirmed, it's not til next Friday as I'll be 5w2d by then and a dodgy GP poas should be positive by then lol! And then I've got a form to fill in and send with my refferal to Sunshine to get this homebirth underway
ETA Cassius, a friend of mine gave me her Calmbirth Coursebook thing and cd...I can't wait to get into them!

too many cooks....
PZ, I don't think you are lame at all.. I was really looking forward to labouring... till I was 2 hours away from giving birth and then I didn't want to do it any more!! LOL
I'm looking forward to it too. Have been pretty much since the last time. Not because I want to repeat that experience, mind. I figure if I could cope through crappy circumstances then I'll be fine with better circumstances.
I don't think it's lame to look forward to labour. I'm getting those inklings again, thanks to reading everyone else's excitement. I was excited first time, then was hanging for TTC to do it again, excited for most of the pregnancy then I just had a moment of "Ugh, hang on, who am I kidding? It hurts!" And it does hurt, but there's a reason marathon runners keep going back to that intense experience. Because it's also amazingly awesome.
I wrote a thread about how to avoid making as much noise in labour next time... I think I had a vision that less noise= more peace with the pain. But some posts in reply to that, and on another HB forum I visit made me realise that trying to be something you're not is using too much conscious brain. So if making noise is your thing, then make noise. I'd love to have a zen, quiet waterbirth video to look back on but I'm not going to kid myself or make myself feel lesser for not being that woman. Not sure if that feels relevent Arimeh's Eden but it was a good moment for me to come to that realisation and acceptance.
Don't worry Meow, I'll be having a noisy one too. Get still shots, then noone will know
Oh yeah, I'm with you on the still shots- video is banned!

Ok, so we have established the main things needed for a successful homebirth:
1) Pooper scooper
2) Camera only taking still shots
3) Flippers
Okie dokie!
On a serious note, I just ordered Ina May guide to childbirth, the thinking woman's guide to a better birth and also childbirth without fear from the same site in the UK (free postage - yeah man!)
Sooo.. thats 3 more books to add to my collection. I think I'll be reading them on the toilet or something to get them all completed!!
Maybe read them to the kids as their night time stories!!
Anyone reading "hello baby" to their kids??
On the note of looking forward to birth.... I always get a bit of "really maybe i just remember it as not being painful" But straight after im like "no that was great". I think id be 100% looking forward to birthing this baby if i knew when the hell it would come or where hehe. 10mins was very intense and trying to rationalise where and how in a 10min time frame blows my mind
PZ: i'm looking forward to labour and birth also, can't wait infact- hurry up january!
PZ congrats again. You don't need a doc's referral to go to the Sunshine hossy HB program, from memory :)
Hello to all - we are good here - Rose is feeding really well and super-cute. Will post birth story soon :)
double post!!
Yay cannot WAIT to read that birth story! The lady I spoke to on the phone today said I did need a refferal, and the form says so too. Boo to refferals lol, a waste of time! I might call the number they gave me tomorrow and ask again. So Rory, what was your experience like? The care? Did you go into the hospy for your scans (for example 12 week etc) or somewhere else?
Yay Rory, nice to hear from you! Cant wait to read birth story
Smidges name is most likely Rose, Rosie or Molly Rose. So i love hearing you talk about your Rose!!!
i also looked forward to labour. but also had moments of 'awww crap, a baby has to come outta mah vagina...awww crap!
i thought that i was mega loud at times during my labour this time, but apparently not lol! so you guys may think you're loud, but mebbe not!! (oh and blowing raspberries is an awesome way of directing the yelling back to relaxing muscles etc...instead of focusing on the throat, the energy is expended mostly on the uterus...apparently).
Em: woo hoo! i am also another looking forward to your January BA!!!
Tegam: we read 'hello baby' to Leila. she loved it! i reckon it really helped 'speak' to her in relation to what was happening. at least it taught her that mummy likes her back rubbed during contractions and that we all have to lie together in the Big Bed after baby is born lol!
Arimeh: you're onto a good thing with Ina May!! she is the most awesome. full stop!
Rory: yay for HB stories!!!!!! mwah she looks sooo tiny in your ticker photo *mwah*
Oh yeah, I've done guide to childbirth adn now on spiritual midwifery. I am loving the hippie vibe
Hello Baby - I want to get that one. Will have to see if my ABA group has it when we reconvene.
We have Hello Baby but my son is not so keen on it. I scared him off by making "the sound Mummy makes when the baby comes out"! He'll watch it though if I read it and I make up a shortened version of the story with our own names. He smiles and likes the page of the baby just born so that's good!
Book depository has it for about $9 and they have free postage :D
I have got to read some birth books...I was all about internet reading last time. You Tube videos on unassisted birth were my favourites.
Cassius, you gotta clear your inbox...I have been trying to PM you back!
I have to say, I am excited about labour because I want a BABY! How exciting! I mean I love the knowledge that I am pregnant...its such an awesome feeling...but now I want the baby. lol.
Oh, and I made SO much noise when labouring with DD...it felt GOOD to moan and bellow and just let it out!
well, he's come across another montage of birth shots in the book and is adamant that that's him getting born and his mummy.
I mean, she doesn't even look like me
Arcadia: have cleared the inbox lol. i always forget to do that lol! i remember also being really excited about meeting our new baby. unlike the first time you know just how awesome it is to get to know and watch them grow! although...i prefer when they are toddlers...love the talking and little antics of 'little people' ITMS. babies are cute and all that, but i am definitely more toddler-centric lol.
marcellus: that is pretty cute of him though! i love how convinced they can be on that sort of thing...no negotiating with 'em :)
Oh that's so true. I didn't really know what it was about first time - and the actual baby came as a bit of a shock :D
I really am looking forward to that and I think the knowledge makes it easier for me to be clear about what I want in birth etc - there's a real live baby involved here and I want the best for him/her too.
My H and I just watched "Orgasmic Birth". It was REALLY good!! I highly recommend it. Had info about natural vs intervention births as The Business of Being Born doesbut it focuses more on actual births and it was a great watch. Let me know if you want to see it and can't find it.
Is that just on you tube Meow?
It's an hour and a half doco- I'm not sure I can find the whole thing on youtube. I think you would really like it so let me know if you're after it on DVD.
ETA: I just wrote about the doco in another thread and thought I would add my mini review here...
Orgasmic Birth is great to watch with your partner- it talks a lot about the sensual intimacy birth can be and it's really good to show how partners can be involved & support birth. There are a couple of hospital births with inventions too and it's funny that even though I've discussed all that with my H he had a lightbulb moment and said "It's interesting how one thing leads to another and another and another". Yep- that's the "cascade of intervention" hon and the whole reason I made the birth choices I did At least he really gets it now.
Meow - I'd love a copy if you have a spare - or tell me where you got yours from!
Sure- I'll PM you :)
MEOW!! DH got me a copy of that orgasmic birth - and omg.. I nearly fell off the couch when that chick had two orgasms!! LOL!!!!! Couldn't help but have a little snigger, but I cried at bit at all the other births.. such a sook I am..
Yeah the multiple orgasms lady and the couple pashing through contractions were not really something I can relate to  But so many of the births were amazing. I lvoe that while some were short and seemed "easy", others were long took some work to get baby out... they were all so beautiful :D Glad you enjoyed it!
Bahahahaha yeah I told DH that we are NOT pashing during contractions... and he's like looked at me and went "Like I would want to - you'd f**kin bite me.."
I actually in general found the partners too 'hands on' and I kept wanting to slap their hands away! But it gave my H and I something to talk about for what *I* want which was nice. I related mostly to the Maori woman... hands off, doing her thing and quietly saying "no, no, no". Loved her :D
Ooh yeah thats the one I really liked as well - with all her family surrounding her, quietly supporting her. Thats what I want with this one.
Oh, when the older women were sitting by the pool and sang, or recited a poem or something to the freshly born bubba... Ei, yi, yi!! Happy tears! :D
Oh wow i'd love to see it, where is it available? Do you think there'd be a torrent? :hide: I loved the business of being born, but would have loved more births in it!
:hide: I havent seen the business of being born or the orgasmic birth... Where do i get copies of these, they sound....hmmmm .... interesting hehe
