Sorry to hear you`ve both had sleepless nights, I`m looking forward to the day when Matthew doesn`t wake up for 7 hours, wishful thinking at this stage when it`s every 3 - 4 hours or even 2 hours sometimes.

I have had a horrible cold since the weekend. Just can't wait for it to go now.
At least DH is home Friday. MIL arrives on Saturday for 2 weeks not sure if i is going to be a help or a pain. Last time she was here i still did everything.

Michelle - I really hope your MIL can be helpful to you this time. Maybe just keep asking her to do stuff and she will get the hint? Uno... throw the washing basket at her a couple of times ;) Sorry to hear you aren't feeling the best.

Dee- I hope Matthew can start sleeping longer for you soon. I know you have probably heard it 1000 times but the first 6 weeks are pretty hellish. It will soon start falling into place.

Hi girls,

Had a better night's sleep last night. I just cuddled her in with me in bed. Usually I am too scared to do this, but I really needed to sleep, and it was the only thing I could do. I am so scared of rolling on her. I guess I really need to learn how to encourage her to settle herself in her bassinette beside our bed. Could be making a rod for my own back otherwise.

We had our appointment with the Child Health Nurse today. It's been exactly one week since I left hospital and she's put on 315 grams since discharge. Apparently the average is 150gm in one week?? No wonder I have sore breasts. At least I can stop stressing about milk supply. Obviously she's getting enough! I'm much happier knowing that.

I hope everyone and their beautiful bubs are doing well. I wish I could be of more use to you all - but I am so clueless about this motherhood thing! thankyou all so much for being there. I hope to be more on the ball soon.

Sending lots of nighttime sleepy vibes through cyber space to all BB newborns and mums out there.

Juliette - don't worry about the self settling yet. You just do what you need to do to get some rest. Gabby is only just self settling now and she is 2.5 months (and I am lucky that she kind of figured it out on her own). I wouldn't stress yourself out about it. As for you being clueless - we all are the first time around. It's not like it suddenly comes to you once the bub is born. The best advice I got was from our own, lovely, Fi. She said that the first few weeks is just about survival. If you and bubs are alive, you must be doing something right! Hannah is putting a fabulous amount of weight on which is wonderful! It's great reassurance, hey?

Just realised we have another set of BB twins :) Jessalyn & Kynan were both born on the same day!

Have to agree with Deb there Juliette. In the beginning it's just a matter of making sure you're both getting enough sleep, food etc to survive! Zander still hasn't figured out the whole self settling thing yet, so I wouldn't worry about it too much yet.

Tanya - I`m trying another cough medicine, it tastes awful but seems to work until about 3am then I start coughing again and it has a child proof cap on it which seems to be also Deeanne proof so Mark has to open it for me, not much good when I need some at 3am and Mark`s not home.

Michelle - I hope your feeling better soon, hope you don`t have this flu thing that I have which seems to be going around. Hope your MIL helps you this time around, perhaps give her a few hints then she`ll help out.

Juliette - I thought the same that I would be making a rod for my own back by taking Matthew to bed when I was totally exhausted and needed my sleep, it`s the last thing I wanted to start but when Mummy is exhusted it doesn`t leave us with much option.

Oh Matthew has just woken and wants dinner, I better go.

Hey everyone

Thought i would join the ranks here now:)

Everything is going really well here, Mason has been pretty good, erratic feeds and sleeping patterns but i expected all that the second time around so a lot more relaxed about it all.
Have been lucky to catch up on sleep with hubby doing night shift the last few nights, so i think that is why i am still sane:)
Sorry to hear some of you are having troubles but it does get better with time like others have said. You are all doing great jobs by the sounds of it:)

Shannon: Thinking of you and your family and hope all goes well on Friday:)

Yay on the sleep Serendipity!! Thats fab for you.

Juliette - I;m with the others. Apparently routine doesn't start kicking in til after 6 weeks, so don't stress about what you are doing now. Its all about survivial now. The other piece of advise I was given which is pretty true is that just when you think you have something that works in settling a baby - they go and change, and you have to try something else!!! Its a neverending battle, so just make sure you are getting enough sleep. Fabulous weight gain. WSell done!

Hi All,

I got some sleep last night! Yay! Hannah dearest slept for 4 hours, had a feed, then slept for 3 hours. So proud. I won't expect it every night, but it was nice to have a little catch up on sleep myself.

Actually, I had to wake her after four hours....it worried me a little that she'd sleep so long when she's so little, without waking for a feed.

Can't win! I worry when she's not getting enough sleep, and then I worry when she's getting too much...

I think I seriously need to relax and go with the flow...

Welcome Belinda, and congrats on Mason's birth! That's great that you're getting some sleep.

Juliette - that is wonderful that you got some sleep last night! What a good girl Hannah was! Ikwim about freaking out when they sleep for too long. For a long while there, I would wake up after a few hours and wait for her to start crying and stress out if she didn't. Gone are those days, LOL! There's been several occasions that I have gone in to make sure she is still breathing. Esp. the first time she slept for 10 hours!! Now I kill for those sleeps ;) Don't worry, it will all come together and all this hassle will become a blur. It's just hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you are sleep-deprived and over it!

Belinda - sounds like you guys are going great guns. You sound so relaxed! I hope I am like that if and when we have another bubs. Good on you!

chloe is a month old tomorrow.. :) its dragged but gone so fast at the same time..

she is now holding ehr ehad up for a few minutes at a time and smiling :) am yet to catch one on camera tho lol..

hope everyone else is going ok, chleo went 5 hours between feeds wednesday night, was hopign shed do the same last night but she went back to being 4, the exta hour on wednesday tho was great :)

Juliette - Glad you got some sleep last night, like Deb IKWYM how you freak out when you think they should be up, I did it the other night but it was only after Matthew had been asleep for 3 hours, he woke an hour later.

Lesley - Sounds like Chloe is doing well, like you I haven`t yet caught Matthew`s smiles on camera.

Well Matthew is one month old today, in a way it seems like years ago when he was born in another it just seems like yesterday. I`ll see you all over in the 1 - 3 month thread soon.

Well, Mum and Dad have gone back home to Brisbane, so I'm on my own with Hannah from Monday (Tim will be home on the weekend). Scary thought, but I am feeling much more confident now. I can't believe what a life changing experience it is to have a little person so reliant on you. I am sooo humbled by the responsibility.

Congrats on your first month of life Matthew and Chloe! Hope you're going easy on your Mummies! Will see you both in 1-3 month thread soon no doubt Deeanne and Lesley. You've both given me hope that I can make it through!

Thanks for all the welcomes:)
Still going really well, i know that could change at any moment so i am enjoying every moment while i can.
Changed his teats over last night and what a difference, the other ones were way too slow, so gone from 40min feeds and him barely wanting to finish it, to 10 min feed and him draining bottle, so he is has just slept and ate since last night.
bieleemorris yes the second time around is a lot better, well for me anyway, but last time i had really bad post natal depression so not too have it this time is certainly a huge help to how i am coping with it all.
Hope everyone else is going well and getting there.
And congrats to the one monthers :)

Hello Everyone,

Hope all your little ones are doing well.

Today we got a phone call from the paediatrician at that hospital. When they did an u/s 2 days before i had Alex they thought he had a problem with his kidney well they never cheked them once he was born. So we know have to go on Thursday for Alex to have an u/s done then wait till the week after to see the paediatrician to find out if anything is wrong.
I am so worried he may have a problem. DH does not think he has but you just don;'t know. Not sure how i am going to get through these next two weeks.

Other than that Alex is doing well he is now just under 3kilos.

Hope the next two weeks goes really quick for you and everything turns out ok.

What bottles do you use for Mason ?
When i changed Alex's over to a faster teat he started wheezing really bad so we had to change him back to a slow one. He takes ages to feed also.

I had him on pur slow flow teats and they are way too slow for him.
The teats i am using now were on a pack of bottles i bought from big W, they are a little fast so he feeds are pretty messy but he seems to be keeping them down.
I would try another medium flow teat brand as they all vary so much, i know it works out a bit of a waste of money but when feeds are taking forever in the middle of the night i think its worth it:)

Alex takes ages at night also. I may in a few weeks change his teats again and see what happens.

It's worth a try, i remember with Luke i tried heaps of different teats before i found one i was happy with. This parenting thing is so much of trial and error, while the companies who make all the stuff get richer!

Michelle - I bet those 2 weeks will be agnoising for you, poor thing. I am sure that Alexander will be fine though.

Belinda - my midwives told to try all the cheaper brand teats first as they are generally the best. She said Safeway/Coles brands ones are just as good as the others. Good luck on finding the right teat!

Hey Shannon, glad to hear little Jessalyn did so well at her MRI. Just another one of those weird experiences outside the nice warm cosy womb I guess! Pretty full on that the urologist wants to have everything done before she's 3 months. Glad she's feeding well and is otherwise happy. I hope she copes ok sleeping in the hospital. Maybe you could take her in with you to settle her...and then "fall asleep" yourself "accidentally" before you put her back!

Shannon - that is such a crock that the hosptial doesn't let you co-sleep!! Honestly! Public liability has gone too far. I'm with Juliette... maybe you could convieniently fall asleep accidently ;)
Good to hear that you are in just positive spirits and you are rapt to no longer be pregnant, LOL.
Sounds like everything is going really well. Even though Jessalyn has a lot ahead of her, all this great stuff will hold her in good stead I reckon :)

Shannon - OMG @ all her operations being performed by the time Jessalyn is 3 months. Glad that Jessalyn did well with her MRI`s. Co sleeping in hospital has reminded me one night at our birthing hospital, it was night 2 after Matthew was born, he just wouldn`t settle no matter what Mark did, we buzzed the nurse numerous times to help but they really weren`t much help at all, poor Mark was exhausted so eventually I told Mark to give Matthew to me and I put him beside me and he went to sleep, the nurse came in at 7am, saw Matthew asleeep with me and immediately put him back into the crib, I wasn`t impressed especially when she turned around and asked if we had a good night, I mean to say we buzzed her so many times throughout the night because we couldn`t get him settled ](*,) You have a point about Jessalyn`s stitches though, I hadn`t given that a thought.

hi girls. am typing one handed with hannah attached to my left nipple. ahhhh....the quiet!!!

she screamed the house down this morning. i was going batty so i bundled her up in the car and went into town. seemed to work a treat!! she was so good and quiet in her pram. I spent the morning trying to sort out the maternity paymeny/family tax benefit stuff. how long before the payment comes through??? i want to get hannah one of those fisher price ocean wonders rockers...

I guess you're right about the stitches being a potential problem shannon...bummer! i am sure she'll learn to sleep beside you in a cot...as long as she knows youre there...

Glad to hear you and Jessalyn are doing well Shannon. Lol @ enjoying not being pg. Sounds like you're doing brilliantly. I can understand you being scared about surgeries so young on your precious bundle. I was a mess just seeing Lola through ultrasounds, DTPA scan & renal MCU as a bub. 6 hours sleep is brilliant, I'm sure she'll soon sleep in the cradle the way you're going, (when you're good and ready ;) ).

I am so glad you have a clear picture of when things will happen, fingers crossed for best possible scenario on the 17th. AS for the sleeping thing, the stitches could be a prob but I think you need to do what suits you best atm and maybe after you get the results and know the complete picture then you can decide which way to go, plus she's just brand new, she's not in a routine yet so I wouldn't be worried yet. I must say it is good to hear you so positive, and also good to hear that you are enjoying your dd and your end of pg too.

Shannon - Sorry to hear Jessalyn has a cold and also reflux. Sorry i have not caught up on how everything went with the MRI but i promise i will soon.

I don't have much time at the moment with MIL here. The kids have had heaps brought for them well Kimberley has more than Alex.

When they do the scan on Thursday they are looking for "dilataion if the right ureter with a possiblity of a duplex collecting system" not to such what it means other than he might have 2 tubes coming from his right kidney. If he has this not sure what will happen next.

I will try and catch up with you all later. I promise :)

Have another child health appointment today at 12. More for my benefit than Hannah's. They seem to want to keep a close eye on me and my mental health with my history and after the shocking baby blues I had in hospital. I think everyone expects me to fall in a heap. I think I'm doing well! I can't afford to go back to being neurotic about food and weight while I am trying to ensure adequate nutrition through my breastmilk for Hannah. I just want to be a good mum!

Stupid internet hasnt worked in days, gggrrrrrrr!!!!!
Well now it is time to catch up again

And in relation to Luke its good sometimes and bad at others, he still has some issues about it all, but generally he has been pretty good about it.

Mason was going great guns when i commented last time, and i knew it was all too good to be true! Now the poor thing is constipated and i think its from the faster flow teats i used the other day but who knows, so have gave him some water with brown sugar yesterday and started a bit of something happening, but might give him more today, poor thing is in so much pain with it.

Any other suggestions that you might of got from health nurse to fix the problem would be appreciated as well.

So had my first crap day yesterday morning but not so bad considering it took me nearly two weeks to have one, but i slept when he slept so made it a bit better.

Glad to see everyone else is going well with it all and i have avoided co sleeping this time around even though its so tempting, but i cant do it with the quilt and stuff on my bed, Luke was a summer baby so i knew he had nothing to get tangled in.

Had a scare the other morning i thought i better check on Mason and when i did the wrap he had on was wrapped all around his face, when i took it off he was gasping for breath, nearly had a heart attack!
Told hubby he needs to wrap him better when he feeds him in the morning, he didnt realise though so i couldnt really get too angry with him.

Well i think i have rambled enough for one post lol

Shannon- I am just coming in to say that I think you too are doing great, and your attitude is also terrific. It is good that they want to be there for you though so albeit annoying at least they are monitoring the situation in case you do need help. Keep up the positive attitude and doing what you are doing.
