MIL made a weird comment. "I hope she has DP's olive skin (Im very white), first babies always look like the father"
I dont know if she was saying in a nice way Im ugly or shes right? lol
My MIL thought and still does think DD looks more like me (not sure if she is hinting that there might be a milkman lol) and my side of the family thinks she looks more like my DH's side.
My DD is a spitting image of me as a baby.. some people say she looks like her daddy but honestly i cant really see it. DD 'sometimes' looks like her daddy when she pulls wierd faces lol
i think there is some primal reason for babies looking much like their fathers in the first few weeks.
Everyone said DD looked exactly like the Bear. I think only one person ever said she looks like me and they had never met the Bear. Baby photos of her and the Bear are disturbingly similar.
Gotta love those MIL comments!
When DD was born she looked alot like me but by the time she was 1 she was a mini-DP. She is pretty much a girl version of him now :)
I was a premmie so had that sort of odd premmie face and head shape...so no one looks like I did as a baby!
There is no mistaking that DD looks like I do now - even strangers comment on it - as Tattoo Mama put it "It looks like you had sex with yourself!" :-D
I am planning to soon return to my natural hair colour - which is identical to DD's (but she is already darker then I was at her age), so that willl make it worse!
The only way DD resembles DH is the way she shoves food into her face lol.
DS looked exactly like his daddy. I keep looking at photos of him and can't see anything of me in him. I know he's mine though - we've the birth photos to prove it :)
I've heard that babies look like their Dad so they bond with them more. Kind of a nature survival thing.
DS looked more like DH. DD looked like neither of us. If we had been separated at her birth, I would've been demanding DNA tests! lol
All my kids looked like their father at birth. Actually all 3 of them looked identical to each other at birth, I have a hard time trying to figure out which one is which in some photos.
Here's a link to an article in the New York Times about some studies into just this question:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/22/health/22real.html
*SIGH* both my two are the spitting image of their dad! and everyone feels the need to comment on it, if they didnt come out of my whoohaa i'd seriously question if i was their mother! lmao
hoping this little guy looks like me so i can say haha ur son looks like me, but not liking my chances
My first born looks nothing like his father, he has always looked like a short haired version of me, however DD1 is identical to him.
DS2 who is to my DH (our first born together) looks loads like his Daddy and a little like me.
Nope. DD1 was a dead ringer for me at birth and now at 3 years old, you can hold a picture of me at that age next to a photo of her and the only way to tell the difference is I had an 80's mullet :/ DH even got concerned when DD1 was a newborn because she had almond-shaped eyes (my little brother has them, I did as a little kid but they've opened up a bit as I've grown up) and he thought maybe the milkman was of Asian descent lol!!
Then DD2 was born and right from the minute she popped out facing the ceiling, she's been DH all over - all she's missing is the doodle! Before she even opened her eyes and started to cry, she looked just like a tiny, almost-bald DH covered in grease lol :/ Once we wiped her down and discovered the strawberry blonde curls, we knew we'd got one of each - a mini-me and a mini-DH. At 18 months she's DH in every single way, from the cheekiness to the facial expressions to the position in which she sleeps at night. So cute!
It is common for babies, whether first or fifth, to resemble their father in the early weeks/months of their lives, but it's not always a guarantee and it certainly doesn't mean anything - DNA is a complicated thing on its own, let alone when it mixes with someone else's to create an entirely new human being! It does seem to be common for both sides of the family to want to 'lay claim' to a new baby by having it resemble family members though so I hope your MIL's remarks are coming from a desire to bond with the new baby as well as she can :)
Depends what angle. Across the nose and cheeks is spitting image of me as a baby/toddler and sideon. If you look at her square on she looks like DP but you can still see a blend of both of us. DP says that she got all of our best features and I agree with him. My nose, eye shape and cheeks. DPs lips, eye creases and chin.
DS1 i think was a little more like me, DS2 was a little more like DH and DD is DH all over. Oh but they have all got my blue eyes (DD's still may change though)
LOL I always wondered where my almond shaped eyes came from becuase only one Aunt has them too...mine are obviously almond shaped but DD's are even more so!
DD looks a lot like DP. But i don't think that theory is all that true. My older sister looks nothing like my dad but i look a lot like him.
Thanks everyone for your replies :)
Winter: Interesting article!
Here I thought looking albino was back in haha. But seriously she says the most weird things at unreal times. I hope she comes out white as me just to spite her haha
First thing....you are beautiful Ahurani!!
My DS1 is the absolute spitting image of his Dad, I do not even get a look in :) Everyone says the same.
The two after are a different story :D
i know they look similar but i havent seen pics of DH as a baby or even a kid younger than 14 but DS looks like BIL like spitting image and so far DD looks like me all over but shes got time lol
Yeah I've been told about the "spitting image of their father" for the few days/weeks because it went back to the cavemen times or something? If the baby looked like the man then they wouldn't walk out on their woman... so thats where it stems from.
Its true in the case for all my children - at BIRTH they were the spitting image of DH, now they pretty much all look like me.. LOL.. (poor buggers) Especially DD2, she's my spitting image of what I looked like as a baby.
I think the primal thing was reversed for us so I would accept and bond with her (I had some issues) cause DD came out looking exactly like me!!!!
Everyone says DD1 looks like me, but its just her eyes (they all got my brown eyes). When you see photo's of her & DH at the same age they are identical. I had people (his brother's family) pull me out in the street saying 'that's A's baby!' when they'd never met me! (They were both bald til they were 3 )
DD2 looks more like a mix of both our sisters & DS looks like a mix of DH, my dad & my brother.
DD3 looks more like DD1 & DS, but I'm hoping she's a brunette, coz DD2 might start to wonder, lol
When DS1 was born apparently my MIL said he was the spitting image of my BIL!!! :o
I was under so much medication I didnt really get to have a good look at him til the next day and by then he looked like hubby from nose upwards but me nose downwards because of his little bum chin lol! now looking at him nearly 2 years later he has my rounder face, my blue eyes, stumpy legs and great skin but he has hubbys ears and thats about it lol!
DS2 when born looked like me with the round face and again bum chin but he also has his dad's ears again but he also has his dads long body which is different to DS1.
MIL was happy to describe him as another BIL look alike stupid woman!
Theres a chinese saying that teh first daughter always looks like your brother. My DD was a spitting image of my brother and even my mum couldnt tell them apart when i pulled out a pic of him and pretended it was my daughter lol
My DD1 looked like my DH when born but now looks like me my DS looked just like DH but has my skinny build and my DD2 is the spitting image of her dad in everyway right upto his massive head she has only just grown into her head it was 37cm at birth the peditrician thought her head was odd until he measure my DH head then laughed
lol MILs often say odd things....
but in answer to the question....not around these parts!
My kids are a perfect matching pair and the spit out of my mouth. DH doesn't nor has he ever gotten a look in.
My DD arrived looking like the spitting image of her uncle, DH's brother lol now she just looks like a bit of all of us. But if you talk to my MIL every little feature and habit is completely from her side of the family....
DH didn't get a look in with Sam at birth. From the minute he was born you'd call him a clone of me apart from the gender issue!
I sometimes freak out when I look at him and see myself from my baby photos in him - it's really weird, but certain facial expressions are like I'm looking at my baby photos again and it is really, really weird at times.
The only way DH appears in Sam is personality. Sam is me all over in looks and completely DH in personality. Better than being the reverse - I don't think I'd do well with a control-freak stress-head toddler!
BW
It's more about the first few days/weeks after birth.
One DD was identical to her dad at the start, but looks nothing like him now. She looks way more like MY dad! Same with the other DD and they have different dads.
DS - we all have no idea who he looks like, we often used to wonder who his mother was lol
I'm pale, DH has olive skin, and DD was born bearing the same (beautiful) olive as her dad. So we got it too "Oh she's identical to her dad". Now, looking at her, and soon after birth, although she has the olive skin, she is a split mix of the both of us that many people can see. Be prepared that if your bub does have olive skin, of your MIL's reaction even if she is identical looking to you!!
DS1 looked and still looks far more like his daddy and one of his uncles (DH's brother), DS2 on the other hand was and is a dead ringer for me! Just a male version ... poor thing ; )
ds1 spitting image of his dad, there was a photo of fil and df srround 6 months to a year old, everyone thought it was df and ds1, never mind the fact it was a pic from the 80's! ds2 dosnt realy "look" like either of us, he has his dads nose but is blonde and untill about 2 years ago had blue eyes, im always being asked if he has the same dad:shakehead: as he is the only blonde. dd looks like df and ds, just alot more chubb!! (witch apparently she gets from me) untill we have a baby that comes out with bright red hair, i will continue to say they look like df. ( i had bright red hair untill arround 18 months when it went brown)
having said all that, everyone thinks they all look just like me and ds2 must look like df, untill they meet df then they realize the kids look like him! they definatly dont get them whopper eyelashes from me!
DD1 looked so much like DP I felt like I'd given birth to him, it was really quite freaky. Before she came out, I joked that I hoped she had his looks and my brains.
DD2 didn't really look like either of us. People now say she looks like me but I think it's just the hair colour.
YES! Flipping identical and I am SO tired of hearing about it EVERYTIME we meet someone new or see someone we haven't seem in a while. :wall: He's my baby too danmit!
Nope, DD is a spitting image of me (always has been my side of the family). The only look she has of DH's is a wonky shaped mouth when relaxed, and now his hazel eyes. She has many of his mannerisms, but looks nothing like him.
DS, well he is a mini DH in every way. I don't even get a look in. I don't even claim the blue eyes cause DD's changed when she was 2.
Nope, Moo looks just like me!
