What am I reading? Skinny Dip
Who wrote it? Carl Hiaason
What is it about? A husband throws his wife overboard from a cruise ship on their anniversary cruise, with no apparent motive. She survives but doesn't let on she has.
Am I enjoying it? So far! Up to chapter 8 and it's been good!
I have just finished tomorrow, when the war began by John Marsden. A group of teenagers goes camping and thier country is invaded while they are gone. It is aimed at adolescents, but I heard all the hype of the movie and wanted to see what the book was like. It is actually quite good and I will be getting the next one in the series.
Harry Potter :D half way thru the 4th book :) I have read the series loads of time already but your never too old for hp!!!
To be honest....Im reading them to DD before bed as i dont actually get time to read during the day and i have ran out of kids books! :p so why not! after i finish hp i might read her twilight  ;p
Muminalice - I have read the tomorrow series MULTIPLE times, and the Ellie Chronicles too. Brilliant books.
Jennie13 - Loved Harry too, and the Twilight ones, although for the Twilight ones, I struggled with the last one. Annoyed me a bit :hide:
I'm reading "The Book Theif" by Markus Zusak. It follows the story of a girl living in Nazi Germany and it is narrated by death.
Very interesting so far, but I need to knuckle down and read more of it, I've been lazy
What are you reading? A time of exile
Who wrote it? Katherine Kerr
What is it about? (it's book 1 of a 3rd series of 4 series set with the same characters and world - if that makes sense) its a fantasy medieval type of world with elves, magic and men (and a few dwarves) - it's kind of hard to explain because the characters are re-incarnated (sort of) and you follow their "soul" lines. Somewhere the whole set of series is described as a celtic knot (book one of series one is called Daggerspell)
Are you enjoying it? yep mainly cause I haven't read it in a while.
What are you reading? Dead Until Dark (1st of the Sookie Stackhouse books)
Who wrote it? Charlaine Harris
What is it about? Mostly about Vampires & Humans.
Are you enjoying it? I love it, Huge fan of the T.V show & books. I decided it's time to re read the books so i can refresh my memory for the newest book release in May.
I have just finished reading Mama Mia by Mia Freedman, LOVED it :D
It's her memoir, it's about her career as the youngest editor of Cosmo magazine and her family life.
I really enjoyed it! I read Cosmo and Cleo during the times she writes about and can remember the instances she's referring to. When she shared her losses I cried. How she felt really hit home for me. And her POAS addiction sounded very familiar :D
i was just thinking the other day that we needed a thread like this!! and i LOVE carl hiaason books!
What are you reading? the girl who played with fire
Who wrote it? stieg larsson
What is it about? it's the second book in the millenium series (first was 'the girl with the dragon tattoo') and is about a girl/woman who comes under suspicion of murder.
Are you enjoying it? i'm not very far into it yet but i am enjoying it. i found the first book hard to get into - lots of different characters, different writing style (well, i hadn't read any of his books before) but i think i'm on his wavelength this time so it's much faster to get into this book. he also doesn't have to spend quite as much time introducing the main characters.
Muminalice- I read the Tomorrow series, and then the Ellie series when i was a teen. Loved it, loved it, loved it! They can be quite addictive though
I've just started "Knit Two" by Kate Jacobs. It's the sequel to "The Friday Night Knitting Club" which revolved around the goings-on of a wool/knitting store and a lovely bunch of very different women. Was a lovely book and a great story about the power of friendship, and am looking forward to getting into Knit Two.
Sloane- I started reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but only got about 20 pages in before I gave up. I think their names really put me off and I just couldn't get into it. Has been relegated to the bottom of my ginormous 'to read' stack, so will have to attempt it again one day..is it worth the read?

Now reading "Some of my friends have tails" by Sara Henderson. I read it years ago, it's just a gorgeous book for animal lovers.
I'm reading "The lost symbol" By Dan Brown.
Just finished Expecting Adam by Marth Beck.
It's a true story written by a mother who found out she was expecting a Downs Syndrome baby in the late 80s.
I enjoyed it mostly but I do find it hard to read books that go back and forth through time :D The reactions she experienced from people were sad but all in all it was a very touching read.
What are you reading? 3rd Degree
Who wrote it? James Patterson
What is it about? A Womens Murder club, 4 successful women solve some of the biggest homicide cases.
Are you enjoying it.. 3rd book into the series of 10 (i think) and I love it.. Very addictive...
I've just whipped through Corinne Grant's book, Lessons in letting go: Confessions of a hoarder. It was a fantastic read, quite excruciating at times but so interesting.
I've got a couple going at the moment: The winter of our disconnect by Susan Maushart. She's the chick who writes for The Age and The Australian, she decided to unplug herself and her entire family from their technology (including tv) for six months, and got a book out it. Very thought provoking.
Also, just got my hands on a copy of Diana Wynne Jones' Enchanted Glass. The author has lung cancer so I'm not sure how many more of her novels I"ll get to enjoy :(. And my copy of Bryce Courtenay's Power of One has just come in at the Library. I read April Fools Day a couple of weeks ago and it's made me really curious about the autobiographical elements in his very first novel.
oh, interesting thread!! at the moment, the only reading im doing is BB and facebook!
Df actualy told me yesterday that i dont read anymore, so this week ive got marching orders, and its off to the library for me!
anyone have any good recomendations? i love true crime, and true stories (not sure the correct term for it...) have a little more prefrence towards the australian ones
I love Martha Beck, I've read the book about her growing up as the daughter of a high ranking Mormon official in Utah, and then going her seperate way. So interesting. I've never been able to get my hands on a copy of Expecting Adam, but have wanted to read it for ages.
ETA - Sarah, don't be afraid to stroll up to the information desk at the library and ask them to give you some reading recommendations. They will be able to point out the the true story area (often they keep them all together in one area).
What are you reading? The Tall Man- Death and Life on Palm Island
Who wrote it? Chloe Hooper
What is it about? Aboriginal deaths in custody, in particular that of Cameron Doomadgee and the resulting court case involving the police officer Chris Hurley.
Are you enjoying it? I am actually, as horrible as the situation/story is, it's quite informative, easy to read and so far (I'm only a 3rd of the way through) seems to have no bias.
Love in the Time of Cholera - by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I did enjoy it but....I just didn't gell with the protagonist...beautifully written book, but when you don't like a character that you're supposed to be cheering for, then it's a bit hard. Idea is gorgeous, setting is gorgeous, loved the character of the female love interest but not the man, thought him dishonourable.
"Fifty one years, nine months & four days have passed since Fermina Daza rebuffed hopeless romantic Florentino Ariza & married Dr Juvenal Urbino instead. Having sworn his eternal love, he lives for the day when he can court her again. When Fermina's husband is killed trying to retrieve his pet parrot from a mango tree, Florentino seizes his chance to declare his enduring love. Can young love find new life in the twilight of their lives?"
Am keen to read some more of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's books now though.
What are you reading? Royal Assassin
Who wrote it? Robin Hobb
What is it about? Fantasy, 2nd of the Farseer Trilogy, it follows a royal bastard whom is sworn to protect heir to the throne Prince Verity and Verity's new bride, but his task is complicated by an invasion of vicious barbarians who turn helpless captives into zombie-like Forged Ones. The home front is no safer, with an ailing King and usurpers to the throne waiting in the wings. Romance, sibling rivalry, battlefield exploits, betrayal, political intrigue and telepathic magic insure that there's never a dull moment in the Kingdom of the Six Duchies. (most of this synopsis borrowed from Amazon)
Are you enjoying it? Yes :D I love my epic fantasies, and this is richly detailed and characterised.
Another one here that looooves the Tomorrow Series and Ellie chronicles :) And a die-hard Harry Potter, Twilight and Sookie Stackhouse fan
ooh Beatrix, that Black Dagger Brotherhood series sounds delicious!!
Ree*Ree - I love the whole Farseer Trilogy & the Tawny Man Trilogy & The Liveship Traders Triolgy!! Love Robin Hobb!! (Except Forrest Mage ****e & not impressed at all with the coninuation of the dragon saga - she should have left a good thing well and truly alone...)
These are some of my favourite books. Let me know when you've finished the lot & we'll talk ;) PS they get better with 2nd & 3rd readings too :)
I could have written this Winter! It's a shame, as the writing is divine...or maybe it's lucky the writing is so wonderful! Have you seen his short stories??:

currently reading "the original of laura" written by Vladimir Nabokov (guy who wrote 'lolita'). basically about a promiscuous wife who is betrayed by her one of her lovers and her husband sets out to annihilate himself in fragments...starting with his toes lol! oh gosh, why did i just laugh at that?! :o anyway, i am really enjoying it, but it does take some dedication as it is an unfinished piece as nabokov passed away before its end, so is also fragmented...but it does lend beauty to the similance of the husband....
Im on a bit of an urban fantasy (think supernatural themes, sexy scenes) kick at the moment.
What are you reading? Halfway to the Grave

But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat. {Amazon synopsis}
Are you enjoying it? Its like tween vampire fiction but for grown ups lol The characters are all adults, which I prefer to the teenage set in alot of the current vampire/supernatural themed books out there. I think the characters personalities are brilliant, Im nearly finished the book but I can safely say I am a little bit in love with Bones, he can bite me anyday
If there is anyone else that is a fan of urban fantasy I have a huge list of authors that I am slowly reading, series by series, and I am happy to email them the list if they want some idea's on new reading.
