$600 per child payment
I haven't received the $600 per child payment from the govt yet this year. I thought I usually got it about june/july. Has anybody else got theirs yet or still waiting?
Sorry if this is the wrong forum..I couldn't figure out which one to use. It is a parent payment though.
Thanks
Cathy

I haven't got mine yet but we only put our tax in 1.5weeks ago. So i expect we'll get it in a week or 2.
-
Unless you are receiving a Parenting Payment, you will have to wait until your tax is completed and the ATO and the FTO cross reference their records.
-
Have you informed Centrelink or the Family Tax Office that you do not need to lodge a tax return ?? (if you haven't worked in the last year) You need to personally tell them. I was caught out with that last year.

who is elligable for that payment??
-
Hi,
If you dont need to lodge a tax return and your on parenting payment you have to call them and tell them that you dont need to lodge.I was waiting for it and i didnt know i have to call and tell them so lucky i called nd asked about it.I will be getting mine on monday!!! yay.
Also this year its more than $600,i will be getting $914,not to sure why but i think there is a payment for both family tax benifit A and B.
-
hey guys, what is the criteria for it? Who is elligable? We only recieve FTBB and maybe I'm not.....?
-
As far as i know, everybody should receive it Kerrie. It is simply a payment to help you pay off any debt you incur with the FAO and if you have no debt, you get the whole $600 per child.
-
ok, just rang ATO and people who get only FTB part B only get $300 (and something). That's only once DH has done his tax return and not per child (Grrrr, could have used that money. *L* Oh well, just have to send the kids off to work in the mines now hehe)
-
Yeah the $600 per child is for those that receive Family Tax Part A the $300 per family is for those that receive family Tax Part B. So if you receive both A & B you get both ;)

-
Does it matter if you only get paid a small amount of part A ?
With DH changing his job this year we had to up his income and our payments where put on stop until now.
-
Nope it doesn't Michelle. You can receive either part or all of it to be eligible.

Wow.I checked the centrelink site and then broke the figure down ....out of my $3000(6 kids) I get a large family arrears payment of $1.16! Huge amount hey!
-
OK Now I'm really confused. I need to lodge a tax return because I was working up until I had Em which was May. For Half of May and all of June I received the full amounts of FTB A & B. I have also received a letter saying they underpaid me on these amounts and they have since paid me the $112.
I am about to lodge my tax return - there is a baby bonus section in there but this is for $500 and for babies born before July 2004 - is this what people are referring too?? Do I qualify for the $600 or $300 payment?? And if so how do I go about claiming it?? Or is it part of my tax return? Hrmmmm... can you tell I'm a little confused!!!
Thanks guys!!
-
Ooh! how exciting. I don't have to lodge a return this year cause I haven't worked. Best get DH to hurry up and lodge his so I can claim Centrelink payment.
Thanks for starting this thread or else I wouldn't know I should be getting it and had to ring to get it too.
-
Sorry to chime in here but I might be able to help some of you.
I have received my payment already. I was talking to Centrelink last week and they said that the FTA Supplement will be processed between 17 and 27 July and they were hoping to have all payments made into bank accounts by the 2nd week of August. This is of course, provided relevant tax returns have been lodged and after all reconciliations are done.
In my case, I knew that my ex had done his tax return and received his tax refund as well as the child support reconciliation because I had received notification from the CSA to advise me of my new payments.
I got the money on Friday and today my statement from Centrelink. The information given in the Important Information section says:
Your Family Tax Benefit includes a Part A and Part B Supplement of $XXXXX. This is included in your entitlement after the end of the financial year, when your payments are checked. The Supplement amount may be used to reduce overpayments received during the financial year.
The FTB Part A Supplement (for two children) is: $1255.60
The FTB Part B Supplement (for two children) is: #306.60
Hope this helps.

Lea - I have PM'ed you in more detail, but no you wont get the baby bonus so don't worry about that, and as you haven't had Em for the whole financial year you will only get part of the $600.00 per child.
At tax time in 2004 when Lachlan was only 2 mths old I only got part of the $600.00 per child for him as I had not had him for the whole financial year, but I received the full amount for Kameron.

You still recieve that $500 on top of your $600 until your child is 5 years old. I recieve it every year.
-
Last yr at tax time I only got part of the $600 cause I hadnt had DD for a yr so this yr I will the full $600.
I havnt worked at all since Oct 06 but I have paid abit of tax (when I was getting some PPP from centrelink) so do I lodge a tax return?
I have to lodge one for DH but his wont be ready for a few weeks:wall: so does that mean I wont get the $600 till DH does his tax?
-
no supplement payments (the $600) are generated til you've both done your tax return. if you've paid tax, and you want it back, you need to do a return. otherwise you notify ATO you're not lodging (i think if you've paid and you're not gonna claim it back it's called a nil return) - and then FAO that you won't be lodging
given that you've paid tax, and obviously have net connection ( :p ) - download e tax and fo your return - that will notify FAO of your income - and they you just have to nag DH to do his!
-
Yes because the tax office needs to check his taxable income to be sure there was no overpayment of FTB before the $600 is paid. As long as you don't end up with a FTB debt then you'll get it all. They will take anything owing out of that if need be.

heheheh - i always find the right time to pop in Raven!

Ok BG, can I pick your brain please hon???
We estimated Dh's income exactly, so no over or under payment needed. I dont need to lodge a tax return, just DH. I get a little FTB A & full B.
Once DH does his tax, and I notify that I'm not, what payments am I entitled to, and how much??
Kanes doctors are considering moving his next two surgeries closer, and DH is out of holidays still from the last one :(. So any spare cash coming soon can help replace his lost pay!!
Thanks if you can help babe!!!:hug:
Oops, forgot!!... We have 5 kidlets, and Kane for almost the full year...
-
Isn't there the $600 per child for the family tax A, $300ish per family if you receive family tax B. You get 30% of your out of pocket child care expenses.
I had a question about the parenting payment - I have been receiving the parenting payment (single) since December and I understand I will get a statement from Centrelink about it to use in my tax return (I also have a part time job).
Can centrelink take a tax componant out of the PP during the year ?
I usually look forward to tax time with all the payments, top ups and rebates, but I am a bit worried that it will be eroded by tax not being taken out of my 'pension'.
thanks !
-
Another quick question, we hadn't had DS for a year so do we only get part of the $600 or will we get the full $600? I get Tax A and B.
-
for those who had kidlets in the last financial year, you'll get a prorata amount of the $667 part a supplement for that child (and if it's your first child, same with happen with part b supp).
if you have shared care of your children (so another person had them more than 10% of the time and claimed FTB) you'll get the equiv percentage of that payment for that child
tax CAN be deducted from parenting payment - you just need to call and request it
if you've been single and on income support for more then 300 days in the financial year, supplement payments will be automatically generated before the middle of August
now, if you estimate EXACTLY for your income and have received fll fttb for the year (as in PM's case), you'll get
$667 (plus a few odd cents) ftb a supplement for each child that you had in your care full time for the FULL financial year
$324 (plus odd cents) ftb b supplement for the FAMILY (so only one of these)
for any child that was born during the financial year, or came into your care during the financial year, left during financial year - or whatever other possible permutations there could be!
that $667 will be worked out to a daily rate, and you'll be paid the daily rate for the number of days you had that child in your care (ie, someone who had the child for 183 days - half the year - would receive 333.50 - half the payment. or someone that shared care 50/50 with another person - same deal)
hope that helps
BG
-
Thanks hon!!!
So I'll get the $667 x 5 (Kane's B day the 18.7.07, so close to the full year!)
and $324 x 1.
So around $3600?!
Wow, if only we could blow it on a holiday!!!:p
But being able to pay off the bills we've accumulated with me not working, and poor Kane draining the cash, will be SOOO good!!!!
Thanks again babe!

BG, does this supplement show up on your Tax Assessment Notice?
I was unsure if I received it last year (or was it the year before?) as my step dad did my return for me.
Is it auto-generated/reconciled? How can I double check I did receive it last year??
-
if you received it through ATO, it will show as FTB reconcilliation amount on your notice of assessment - but it's not paid with your ATO payment that often
if it has been paid via ATO, you should have still received a notice from FAO to explain it all. if it was 2 years ago, were you partnered at the time, and if so, has HE done his tax return - cos there may be a hold up for that reason...
-
I never get this payment. Don't know whether it's just too hard for them to work it out in a blended family situation or what. I haven't worked since 2005 and still have never got this and I'm always on the phone to c/link trying to figure out what we have received and if we are having to pay anything back or missing anything.
I'll call them up tomorrow and see what they say, I guess.
-
make yourself a coffee and a cut lunch canberra momma - the queue's are horrific at the moment!!
if you have a previous year FTB debt, supplement payments will be used to pay them. if you have a tax liability and lodge a tax return, you may receive your payment via ATO instead of FAO. if one of you hasn't done your tax return (or notified FAO that you don't need to lodge) it won't have generated supplement payments. if you've underestimated DH's income, your supplements will be used to pay back any money you weren't entitled to
i'm not saying ANY of these apply to you or your circumstances, just floating a few ideas. if you're FTB current (so receiving payments fortnightly) and haven't received a letter saying you need to pay back money you have received in the years ending jun 2005 or earlier, your reconcilliation of payments has happened - you might just need a bit of an explanation of the outcome.
as i said, it's really really really busy at the moment, so be prepared to wait - and don't take it out on the poor sap that answers the phones! we're doing our best i promise!!
-
Aw cr@p. Might just wait till Tom lodges then. We can always do with the $$$$ but we ain't starving so methinks waiting on the 'phone during the school hols may not be the BEST idea, huh?
If it's not sorted (aw double cr@p, just realised we can't lodge online this year as we don't have access to a MS box!) I might follow it up after.
-
Sorry if this has already been answered, but I'm new to the whole centrelink payment. This is the first time we've claimed any centrelink payments ever. So, what is this payment for and do I have to ask for it, or will I get it automatically when we do our tax?
Thanks in advance!
-
If I was partnered for part of year (separated in April), do I still have to wait for his tax return to be processed before they will pay my supplement. I have lodged my return which is actually a loss, do I let them know that also as ATO didn't start processing returns until 7th July?
Thanks
-
Linda3 - I was wondering the same thing - I even offered to do my
EX's tax as I had done it for the past few years. I thought he would sit on his for a bit if he knew I was waiting for him to do it.
-
Bg honey you are a legendy!!!! thank you so much for taking the time to help with all the questions.....I didnt even need to post up but had to cause everything thats been on my mind has been asked and answered :)
oh and I should get back paid for a $12,000 underpayment...we always over estimate greatly...makes for a great tax return ;)
-
I underestimated my working income (originally by about $7000, but reduced it gradually to be the correct amount before the end of the financial year). One Centrelink person said what I hadn't been paid (because of overestimation) I will get at tax time... Is that how it works? I had my ds in Aug in the financial year just gone, so I'll almost get the full $600 thing that your talking about? I receive both part a and part b.
I'm so confused, and I was speaking to someone today about doing E-Tax, but they said they go to a tax man and get good refunds... What would be the best to do? I received centerlink payments and earnt around $5000 in employment.
-
celsie - the "$600" payment is a portion of your FTB entitlement - so if you haven't claimed, but do a lump sum claim at the end of the financial year, you will receive that payment. if you're claiming fortnightly ftb payments, you'll get it automatically processed once your tax details are finalised
linda3 - if you're seperated on june 30, there is no wait for your ex-partners taxable income details. the process will use the most recent estimate of his income to finalise your details if his hasn't been confirmed when they process it. if he then lodges and you're entitled to more than you received (so his actual income is less than estimate) you will get another top up at that time
Rhiannon - if you overestimated your income, and had accepted the reduced payment to correct the earlier underestimate, they'll correct it at tax time. E-tax if great if you have a simple return - but if you think there are extra things you can claim, an accountant can be helpful. we use an accountant every year (DH is a truckie, so lots of little things to claim), as they know what you can and can't claim legitimately - and when you do your tax with them the next year, you can claim the costs of the accountant the previous year as a deduction! given the simplicity of your return, i would think that you could just use e-tax as you'll be considered low income, and will probably get everything back - try the ATO website (Australian Taxation Office Homepage) and tax calculators on there will tell you what tax you'd have to pay...
