Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Saffy - I was going to a Christmas party a few weeks back and decided I'd break out the old bras to wear under my pretty dress, seeing as DS2 wasn't going with us. The non-maternity bras that I tried - my old ones! - felt awful. Really thing shoulder straps, only one clip at the back. I felt like i was just not getting any support from them. Argh! Clearly I'm going to need new bras, as opposed to just being able to go back to my old ones.
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Saffy, I've worn normal, underwired, non breastfeeding bras for most of DD2's life. Maybe from when she was 3 months old? I've had no problems, I had a large oversupply until she was about 10 months, and I still get very full if she hasn't fed for a few hours. I don't think I'm very susceptible to blockages though, and DD2 still feeds every couple of hours.
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
I wore normal, underwire bras from 12 months with DD1 and never stopped with DD2. No bra related issues, my block ducts show up from trying to sleep on my tummy when DD2 is sleeping over at Grandma and Poppas, no bras involved lol.
Today DD2 is 2. Doesn't feel that incredible or anything but glad to have made it this far with both now. Everything from here is gravy (DD1 was 3yr 3mo). She's still a huge boob monster :)

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
I've been wearing normal underwire bras for ages now - probably around the 12-18 months (DD is now 32 months). It's never been an issue, I do have to make sure I don't wear a bra to bed though, as I forgot to take it off once (it was a maternity bra too!) and I got very, very close to having mastitis.
I can't believe I'm still feeding DD at 2 years, 8 months. Being pregnant, she has cut back a lot. I have day weaned her, and I'm pretty sure my milk is heading back to being colostrum already (I'm not even 12 weeks yet) - when I squeeze any out, it's quite yellow. Still, DD definitely wants it to get to sleep at night, once or twice through the night and first thing in the morning. I am hoping she'll wean over the next few months though.

Dont mind me im Just sitting here watching getting ready to be allowed to play in here with you girls in just 6ish weeks time.....

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
I think dd has decided she is ready to wean. I don't think she has fed since around New Years
Having said that, I'm laying in bed waiting for her to wake and she is likely to decide she needs boob just to confuse things again :)
If she is done I won't be unhappy. We shared this journey for 4 y 7m and a few days. That's a long time given my initial goal was to get colostrum into her and anything beyond that was a bonus!

Fantastic job BG! Inspirational.
Gosh my dd2 has been stuck onto my boobs since friday night.
I just returned to work and i dont think she is coping that well.
She refuses to give my boobs a break since friday night!! All day all night!
I hope she doesnt think she is going to get milk tomorrow coz grandmas milk is overdue!!!!!

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
When I first went back to work, days off were like feeding marathons/cluster feeding sessions all over. Dd was fine with not having milk when she was with daddy or Granma, but if mums bibs were there, they were all hers! It took a while for her to realise there was still going to be milk every time and that she didn't have to be constantly attached. I went back to work when she was ten months. I reckon she was pretty chilled about days without me by first birthday.
No boob request this morning even though she climbed into bed and I was topless. She did tell me my bombs bounce like her ball outside. Then went on to say one ball bounces really well but the others are a bit flat and dont bounce well. I'm not sure which she was comparing me to!
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Lol BG!! At least both comparisons were balls and not a deflated balloon!!!!
I dont know how long dd2 will realise lol she is 16 months so hopefully realise the difference sooner because i cant go walking around with a toddler on my boobs 24/7 lol

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Haha BG! Doing okay with bfing both DD2 and DD3 so far. I've only had to bf them together a few times, which was cute but a bit challenging with DD2's wriggliness. This is much better than bfing while pg though!

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
I'm officially in here now, DD turned one on Tuesday,we had a great party, I had been very emotional leading up to it cos I didn't want my baby to grow up but now I am fine.
Lucky I have breastfeeding to keep our strong connection going, she is a massive booby lover so hopefully I don't have to face weaning for a while.
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Since my last post, DD has decided to check the other side to see if there was any milk (next day) and found none. this morning she asked for boob again - i told her it was fine if she wanted to try, but i thought all the milk was gone. she decided not even to try, just snuggled me and stroked my face while we lay together in bed :)
i have to admit i was worried weaning at an older age would come with difficulties but to be honest i really like the fact that she is old enough to talk and reason about what it all means, to understand why there is no milk etc.
i know full term feeding/child led weaning isn't for everyone - but it's been good for us. i think it's healed a lot of the hurt and anger at my body for not doing the right thing when we were ttc. i think i NEEDED it to do the right thing with this BF journey.

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Well ladies I have had an interesting few days. On Wednesday I left my kidlets with my ILs and DH and I went interstate with my sister for a training course.
I didn't leave any milk for DS2. At this age it isn't about sustenance or hunger, it's about comfort and the love of milk. He's never had a bottle so I didn't see the point of introducing it now.
I took my trusty Medela swing, which I then dropped off the bed at the motel and it broke :wall:
Thought hand expressing would be ok - no. Had to go buy a manual hand pump. When I finally used it properly, Thursday afternoon, after hand expressing in the shower that morning, which didn't really help, I expressed over 300mL!
Anyway, DS2 was great with the ILs. He was fine. Totally fine. Didn't even want a feed when we first saw him yesterday evening.
MIL obviously didn't feed him overnight so I'm going to try and keep that up... See if it helps his sleeping. We managed last night.... But I am stuffed this morning.

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
So ladies looks like I was premature in popping in here getting ready for my 12 months plus of breast feeding.
DD has refused now for 3 days and literally screams when she looks or touches anywhere near my breasts.
So I have accepted we are done. I'm sure it's because I have gone back to work and there is huge changes associated with that.
We made 11 months and 11 days and while I'm sad not to have made it in here, I'm cheering you all on from the sidelines :)

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Boo, good one baby Joeve, don't you know I want my friend in here with me :(
On a serious note, that's sad babe but well done on going so long, you did so well. Hard when the choice is taken out of your hands, my sister had to stop around the same time because of chronic biting over weeks and weeks. Hope you aren't too sad, emotional time with your horse too :-( xxxx
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Hugs Joeve but you did awesome going as long as you did.
So, tell me, how do I tell the difference between refusal and a wee girl who just can't be bothered sticking round for cuddles? G will literally feed for a few mins then constantly pull off until I get sick of it. This is coming from a girl who could hang out on the book all day given the opportunity. Is this her getting ready to wean or normal for an 18 month old? And how to deal with one twin ready to wean when her sister isn't but always wants a quick chew on a nipple when she sees E having a feed?
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Thanks :)
I'm no expert but heres what is happening everyday from Wednesday up until and including tonight if I so much as showed DD my boob she bursts into tears and starts screaming. So I think I have nailed the refusal textbook definition :) I didn't want to give up if it was a phase but I'm convinced now it's not.

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
my breastfeeding journey is at an end, DS is 2 and a half and has finished feeding, still asks occasionally but the milk is disappearing and is just as happy with a cup of water and a "cuddle with de boobies". This is the first time I have weaned without a new pregnancy helping things along and I am a it sad that I have finished but also glad that I am not being touched all the time. I have been pregnant or breastfeeding (or both) for 9 years, I never thought in a million years that would be me.

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Well done, kitten and Joeve!

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
We are at 2yr 5 mths and DS is still just having a morning feed. DS was quite sick this week with a viral rash so it was nice to be able to offer some extra feeds. I am pretty sure I'm ready to wean but so far he's showing no signs of wanting to do so. He still likes to "unwap da boobies"!
I have been telling him he's a big boy now but he tells me he's still little and when he's big "like dad" he'll stop!

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Well, I think it is time for me to say goodbye in here... DD hasn't had a feed for over 3 days, after weeks of only having one short (30 second) feed before bed anyway. I'm ready for her to wean. 2 years, 9 months and 3 days is well beyond my original goal of 2 years... and being pregnant and feeding has been not pleasant. I'm glad to have a bit of a break from feeding before new bubba comes along.

See you back here again in 2015!

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
We made it we made it!!!
After my sad post about her being done the next day she had the snuffly nose and only mummies boobies could make her better! So she went back to 1 feed at night everyday :) I'm so glad to be here as I was not ready to stop feeding her. :)

Great work Joeve, happy birthday to baby Joeve too xx

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Great to hear, Joeve! Congrats on reaching this milestone.
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Yay Joeve! I thought that may happen, DD was on again off again at that age and in fact earlier, but didn't want to push it in case your little one was off the wagon for good. But yay!

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
LL I really thought after 7 days of screaming at the sight of my boobs she was done. I wonder if she hadn't gotten sick if she would have stayed off? Anyway I'm very glad I kept expressing every night :)
Thanks ladies :)

That's great to read Joeve!

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Last night was a fussy feed and then it dawned on me she gave it up 4 weeks ago the first time.... AF is here again. Could this really cause all the crying and angry swatting at the boobs???
She went to bed with about 60 seconds per side very upset and cranky.
She woke at 1.30 crying and I went in and she fed better. She sleeps through normally.
I definitely don't want to start overnight feeding again, slightly selfish but I'm back at work....
How are is everyone else going it's a bit quiet in here.... Please don't make me a thread killer.... Again rofl
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
DD1 always fed less and got grumpy and fussy when I got AF. Apparently it's not uncommon!
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Not a thread killer love :-)
we are good, just got through a rough patch with wonder week causing all night buffet and teething causing sore nipples- it was seriously the sorest my nipples have ever been even in the early days-was about to call ABA line but it has improved over the last few days, tooth is thru and nights have improved.
Does anyone else's baby feed standing up ( on my knees)? It's so embarrassing in public. Not looking forward to being stuck in an aeroplane seat on our long haul flight coming up with DDs gymnastics while feeding.
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
I think we're coming to an end, slowly... DS2 is down to one, two or three feeds a day, dependnig on various things. Always has his first thing in the morning feed, if I'm around he'll feed to sleep at lunchtime, then again if I'm around, before bed. But he's fine without me. Who knows, maybe he'll keep this up for a while yet!
Joeve that's really common, lots of mums find their baby gets a bit unsettled around AF. Hugs. Not too much fun!
Saffy, that flight could be interesting! My DS2 is happy lying down to feed at this stage.
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Totes normal Joeve. Doesn't make it less annoying though!
I will never stop breastfeeding. I'm sure of it. Ms 3 still comes running at every chance she gets. 1 yo is madly in love with the boob. I'm too lazy to stop boobing her to sleep, but I kind of want to. She won't settle for anyone else without a fight.

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Ahhh such peaceful feeding this week :) I'll be sad when this is over!
-
Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
Haven't been in here for a while but with DD1 turning five in a week breastfeeding has been on my mind, she weaned long ago now but tandemed with DD2 so it signifies 5yrs of continuous feeding! DD2 turned 2 in January, still super keen on milkies so figure there's still another year at least yet. She's my last (she is she is she is) so enjoying it for as long as she will let me, will feel weird to not be feeding when it ends, I'm only 26 so 5yrs is quite the chunk! It is such a nice peaceful pause in our days and a relaxing way to watch her drift to sleep, she still gets so excited about it and it's a comfort to me knowing she is getting a nutrition injection no matter what else happens to make it into her mouth that day. I really enjoy it, even if most of my nights are spent with her attached constantly :)

Re: Breastfeeding Beyond 12 months #2
At the moment I'm having a "when will this be over" spell - ds2 (nearly 2 which is my goal) is driving me insane with the cluster feeding before bed - on off on off - and the seemly ridiculous number of wake ups over night - regularly 3-4 if not more. He won't take a bar of DH once he finally goes down for the night. Currently bedtime seems to be anywhere between 8 and 10pm :wall: doesn't help that I'm attempting a masters of education that requires me to study after boys are asleep but I'm not getting to Uni work because I need the sleep because I know ds2 will be up too often for me to function the next day.
Working on mummy milk is for bedtime/sleep time as when I'm home he seems to want me/milk all the time, thankfully he'll take cows milk in a cup as a distraction (but not at night). I'm just over the need mummy all day & night at the moment (not helping my stress levels)
