Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
Hi All,
I am expecting a baby girl after 2 boys, due mid may. I have a short list of 5 names and I'd love your opinion!
Our last name sounds like Warmer (just replace the “m” with an “n”). We have two sons, L@chlan D@vid and Willi@m Mich@el. My husband is Scottish by decent and my background is Welsh/English. We currently live in Australia!
A little about our name choices for our current children: We chose our first son’s name, by pulling his name out of a hat! My husband and I could not agree on 3 names we liked (Matthew and Andrew being the other two), so we put all three suggestions in a hat and I pulled out L@chlan. His middle name D@vid is, of course, after my husband. Our second son’s name was chosen through mutual agreement as soon as we knew it was a boy. Willi@m is a family name on both sides of our family, being the great great grandfather on both sides! Mich@el is my father and grandfather’s name and goes wonderfully with Willi@m.
Another reason why we chose L@chlan and Willi@m is because we liked that they could be shortened to nicknames. L@chlan quite often gets called “L@chie” and Willi@m goes by “Li@m” from day to day.
We are now expecting our third baby due in May, a girl this time! If baby 3 had been another boy he would have been called Angus or Hamish (middle name Eric), to keep in line with the Scottish/Celtic theme.
Some guidelines we would like to stick with:
1. Traditional/classic/Old School – nothing too popular
2. Scottish/Celtic/English/Australian origin
3. Middle name will be F@ye (after my mother in law who passed away 5 years ago)
4. Can be shortened for a nickname
Some of the names we’ve been throwing around:
1. Annabelle – a little on the popular side. Also has the name “Ann” incorporated which is my mother’s name. Love the meaning of this name – Grace and Beauty, however no nicknames I really like… dislike Belle as a nickname and Anna/Annie is too close to my mums name and I do want a bit of originality
2. Elspeth – I fell in love with this name when I heard it, it’s old school, classic, not popular and easily shortened to Elsie or Ellie which are gorgeous nicknames.
3. Cecelia – this is my mother’s middle name, and is another old school classic name. The only shortened name I could think of is Cece or Celia which is cute but I’m not sold. I don’t want another nickname starting with “L” so Lia is out.
4. Matilda – a classic Australian name, shortened to Tilly or Mattie. Goes nicely with Faye. I keep coming back to this name
5. Maisie – my husband’s grandmother’s name. No nickname but a sweet girly name that goes nicely with the boys names
6. Madeleine - another classic name that can be shortened to Maddy. My hubs suggested this one
Choosing a girl’s name is proving quite the task and I would love your input!

Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
They're all great names! I'm not sure I can choose! I had a bit of a laugh though, when I read your heritages I was going to suggest Isla. DD1 is Isla-Mae, I was imagining you with an Isla-Faye haha.

Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I love Annabelle. Beautiful name

Matilda or Maisie. Matilda was on my short list but I had a little boy. : )

Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I like Matilda & Annabelle :)
a gorgeous Welsh girls name that I loved was Carys but DH vetoed it :(
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I love Matilda, if DS2 was a girl it was the name I'd picked out. It goes great with Faye, and Tilly is a great nickname.
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I like Matilda and Madeline! You had the same criteria as me!
Have you thought about Madison (Maddie) or Georgia (Georgie)? Both fit the bill and go well with Faye!
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
YAY for a girl :)! love Annabelle - so gorgeous. not a fan of the other names, sound old fashioned IMO
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I like Madeline.
Matilda and Annabelle are nice too.
Do you like Eloise, Alannah, Caitlyn?

I love Isla but hubs doesn't which makes me very sad :( it is a beautiful name :heartbeat:

How do you pronounce it? Is it 'Car-Iss' or 'Care-iss' or 'Car-is' or Care-is' or 'Ca-Riss'?

I don't like Madison... Doesn't have that old school feel to it. Hadn't considered Georgia but I do like it! Will be suggesting that to DH! Thanks!

I like Madeline.
Matilda and Annabelle are nice too.
Do you like Eloise, Alannah, Caitlyn?
DH doesn't like Eloise or Alannah and the boys have a cousin called Caitlyn which is a shame cos I love that name too. I might run Eloise by him again as I do like it :)

Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I am a huge fan of Elspeth. I love it and it just flows so nicely with your son's names x

Eloise is lovely ;) good luck choosing!

a lady I worked with who's Welsh, named her daughter Carys and they pronounce it Ca-reece, so that's the only way I know how it's pronounced :)

Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
My DD is Cerys - very popular Welsh name (my mum is Welsh) Carys and Cerys are both popular there is like Clare and Claire. Pronounced KAH-ris and Cerys is pronounced Keh-ris/Kare-ris. I have never heard it with the -reece ending. I still like it but find in Australia people don't get the hard C and we get more like se-ris or se-reece, or they hear Paris. Particularly non English speakers can't make the leap between seeing a C and it sounding like a K.

Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I like Cecilia but I also like Carys - I think they both go well with your boys names

Thanks Sunny! I can't stop thinking about this name.. It's grabbed me. DH likes it too so we will see

Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
Interesting on the Carys pronunciations... I think I would pronounce it Car-iss or Care-iss but the confusion of how to pronounce/spell the name puts me off a little. I do like it though for its unusual-ness!
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
as with all names, depends on the person pronouncing it ;) I love Carys and have to say, if I'd never heard it, I would've pronounced it Cariss :D
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I like option 4. But I'm also very biased ;)

Yes and within Wales there are quite different accents so could sound different depending on where in Wales are from, all my family are from South Wales so all have the same sort of accent.

If I had realized the pronunciation issues I wouldn't have picked it, people not being able to spell it doesn't bother me, but the pronunciation isn't something I would have expected, or I thought that once people had heard it they would know how to say it, but it seems not.

Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I love those names. Annabelle is my favourite, and Matilda. Arabella is another similar name.
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I also have a L@chlan ;)
Matilda was top of my list for DD but DH said no :( Love Tilly as a nickname and I'll admit 60% of the reason I love the name so much hehe. Goes lovely with F@ye!
Another option, Cerys. It's a welsh name I believe.

Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
yeah No. 5 .. I really like Matilda, especially Tilly for short. DH isn't completely sold on that one though... my side of the family LOVE the name as well and have decided to call her that even though we haven't decided... :wall:

Haha my family did that with the name Charlotte for DD even though it wasn't even on our list! (I do love it though).

Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I love Cecelia. I would love to see this name used more. I really considered this and started a thread on the name when pregnant with DS then someone pointed out it rhymed with DD1 name. This has my vote.
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I picked Matilda. We almost called DD2 that. We also had Annabelle and Madeline on our list so love them too.
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
What about Celia, rather than Cecilia? Out of your list I like this and Elspeth. But I'd probably choose Annabelle to go with your other children.
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
Elspeth for sure. So beautiful and classic yet not common and no mistaking the pronunciation!

We would stick with Cecelia as it is my mums middle name. Annabelle does seem to 'fit' well with the boys names I agree

Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
Tegam/Butterflylove - me too! This name really stuck with me since I first heard it. Unusual but not weird, old fashioned and able to be shortened.
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
Based on what you said I would scrap Annabelle and Cecelia. For my personal taste I love Elspeth, Matilda and Maisie.
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
Out of your list I like Elspeth best, then Annabelle.
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
I know a Cecelia. She gets called Cele - pronounced like Seal.
I voted for Matilda. I know a Matilda/Tilly & she is just gorgeous.
-
Re: Baby #3 - Which Name do you like best?
Very interesting poll results so far! Elspeth is leading by only 1 vote and tied for second is Annabelle, Matilda and Madeleine!
DH suggested the name Josephine last night... thoughts?
He also wants to put Olivia on the short list.
