blastocyst transfer
Hi Ladies,
I am due for an EPU on Friday morning. Saw doc for scan on Monday and could see about 13 follicles - blood test showed Estrogen at 18000 after day 8 of Puregon. He said this was high, definately much higher than my previous cycles and he's concerned that I will end up with OHSS:crying: Ive had this before after an EPU of only 9 eggs, last two Stim cycles I ended up with 20 eggs which was great - but only 3 fertilised to Blasto's- I prefer to go with Blastocyst transfers as my gut instict tells me my bub will have better chance of implantation. Just wondering if anoyone else does blastocyst transfers and wether growing on to day 5 means you lose some that may have otherwise survived inside of me if they had a day 2 transfer??
I feel good about Friday - but seeing the doctors nerves about OHSS I am now feeling a little nervous myself.

Hi Shaz,
Its a tricky one i know. Im always tossing up day 2, Day 3, or blastie. as i have done all of them. I did fall pg on a day 3 and a blastie but sadly lost both very soon after getting my BFP. I guess its a hard one to tell really as we can always live our lives by what itf's (god i do it every day!!). I think you have to talk it over with you FS as they are the best to advise you, and with you history with so many eggies but unfortunate not too manyto blastie then they may recomend day 2,3. Some one explained to me that it is better to put one in than to not and if you go all the way to blastie than there may not be that chance.
My current Fs perfers to do day 2 which i would perfer day 3. but i will go with what they recomend.
I hope you are able to discuss this freely with you DH, FS and mayb a counciler before you make up ypur mind
Good luck and wishing you all the best

It really depends on the doctor that you speak to because many of them are different. I know certain clinics only do blasties and others prefer 2/3 day and charge extra for blasties. I think there is evidence that both can be successful. For me, I always have blasts because I have a large drop off at day 3 - that is on day 3 last cycle, for example, we went from having 19 fertilised to 5. So I figure had we put one of those other ones in - seems to me it wasnt going to make it - if that makes any sense?
But really each to their own and girls in here have had success with each option so I really dont know for sure - you just have to be comfortable with it yourself, I guess...
As for OHSS, make sure you are really resting - I mean minimum movement and drinking lots and lots of water. I had a level of 38,000 2 days before OPU and 24,000 2 days before OPU the next time and didnt get OHSS. Although I was very sore and very tired! Hang in there, rest, drink and GOOD LUCK!

Hi Girls,
Thnks for the support.
Keen - I know exactly what you mean about the Blasts, I tended to think that those that dont make it in the lab wont make it inside of me and maybe you go thru the 2week wait for nothing, because it was all over just a few days after transfer (plus both of my BFP's were from Blasts - nothing from day2). ANyway - thats what I used to think, but lately as always before a transfer I worry about losing them all by waiting for day 5 Blasts........ Anyway I do like to hear of other experiences and measure that with the Doc's recommendation..... SO thanks heaps:hug:
Lou - thanks for the good advice, sorry to hear about your two losses..... I will wait to see how many I get tomorrow and if I am lucky enough to get 20ish then its proabbly worth the rick - anything less and I will likely go day2 (assuming thats the doc's recommendation). :hugs:
:crossfingers:
It really is nice to have others that

Dream
I would ask for some to be stored at 2 - 3 day and if you want blasties as well. I feel first time with DS on day 2 EMBRYO and he is 9 months now. I just had my last blastie ET and it did take but was Ectopic. So I would store as many as you can as lost of ladies fall with both types. Its harder to freeze blasties and as you would know not all make it to that.
All the best :)

Shaz,
I've just located a thread about this that I started ages ago in archives. Will try and bump it for you.
ETA it's here if you wanted to have a read.

Hi Girls,
Thanks Missy - good advice. I fell pregnant off my last blasty, but lost him at 10 w. I also had a cancelled FET as the last blasty didnt thaw well.
Just got in from hospital and feeling OK, had some pain last night but so far OK today. We got 14 eggs and doc rang this morning to tell me 10 had fertilised which is far better than my normal %.
Sushee - will go and check that thread now.
Thanks ladies XX :)
-
Awww Dream well done. Nice lot of Eggs. Are they going to freeze day 2-3 and blasties or just 2-3 or just blasties. Id try maybe what ever you can get. I hope I get lots next year when we go again. GOOD LUCK HUN!!! let me know how you go. ok ?
-
excellent news on the 10 fertilised! Hoping that they all grow nicley. Sending you much babydust!
-
HI Missy - I called clinic again today (day3) and great news - there are still 10 embies all 8 cell at this stage. Going for a day 5 transfer and praying that there is no drop off over the next 48 hours. Despit the fact that this is my 7th full stim cycle I feel quite positive about this one. It feels like there has been just enough progress every cycle, so hopefully I can go all the way this time. It certainly is nice to have a few extra angels praying and sending baby dust!!:)
I am starting to feel a little fragile from the EPU, but I have the luxury of being able to work from home which is great. So ive taken eveyones advice and am drinking lots of water (though sometims I think thats what makes me feel so sick????).
I will start sending some positive vibes thru for u for next year.
-
Hi Sushee - Forgot to mention that I visited the acrhived thread you mentioned which was very useful, i then also spent some time on various web sites some quoted.
It's clear there are a varying number of opinions on what's best and no doubt there will continue to be useful arguments for both sides. I decided to stick with blasts for this cycle and am comfortable (But praying all the same) that we will have some great little embies left for freezing ........
-
Thanks Daisy - our posts must have crossed over. I will do my best to make sure the baby dust is well used...... :)
-
Hi Dream
Wow thats so great. Im so happy for you and for all the ladies here doing IVF as I know how it feels to want a child so much. Let me know when your in your TWW and Ill do some praying for you.
I hope all goes well and the little bubba's stick like glue to you.
Sending you lots of :stickyvibesboy::stickyvibesgirl: and lots of :bluedust: :)
-
All the best DB - thats a really good fertility rate and even bettrer news that they have hung on so long... wishing you all the very best of luck for this cycle - hoping number 7 is lucky for you!
By the way, one thing I did to make myself feel a little better about drinking all that wtare was to add a tiny bit of Ribena to it, which somehow made it feel not so heavy on my stomach...
-
Hi ladies,
Well I had my ET today - 2 perfect little blasts. So i am officially in my 2ww now. Also still had 3 morellars left which I have to check 2moro to see if they make it to balsts. So fingers crossed there too.
Keen- tahnks for suggestion on the Ribena, I got some today and it is a little better. Also find that room temp water is better than cold?
Feeling good ....:)
-
Good luck in your TWW Dream bub - well done on having two blasts transferred. Both my bubs began as blasts and stuck first go. Be strong, it's such an emotional 2 weeks. for some wonderful news at the end of it.
-
Sam & Joel were day 6 blasts - my other 2 cycles (1 fresh & 1 FET) were day 2 and only 2 (out of 6) of my day 2 embryos survived thawing (but poor quality after losing cells and BFN). I didn't have any blasts left to freeze.Lucky I didn't need to.
I wanted to wish you the world of luck ... I hope this cycle is the stickiest yet ;) :stickyvibesgirl: :bluedust: .
I hope you have some awesome news for us in 10 days or so - keep us posted.
-
Charlie was a blast transfer too. One of 2 blasts transferred.
-
Shaz - am wishing you all teh best and hope that the 2ww FLIES by for you... although inevitably it wont! Yep I agree room temperature is much better too... :)
-
HI Ladies,
Its very inspiring hearing stories of beatiful little bubs born from Blasts. I  to god that I will have the same story to tell in about 38 weeks.
Baby Amore - are Sam & Joel twins (I cant see your sig ATM)? I am so pleased for you that everything worked so well... Sushee & Humphrey too - love to hear a blast was responsible for your little bub. Humphrey - are your bubs twins??
Reason for my interest is the doc thought that early on in my last pregnancy I was carrying twins bcause of my high levels from the BFP - I had had two blasts transferred then, but had a lot of bleeding and wasnt given my Anti D injection ( I am O neg blood type) until quite late. My 8 weeks scan was fine but by then my levels had dropped off & then there was only one heartbeat, sadly by 10 weeks the heartbeat was gone...... I thought that maybe the bleeding was the loss of the first and then the second a couple of weeks later??? Has anyone heard of twins MC at different times ??
I'd love twins - although I'm aware of the risks and would be very happy either way.
Got a bit of disappointing news today - it turns out that the remaining 3 morrelars didnt progress and are not viable for freezing, which is rather sad. Its a risk though that I am aware of by going to blasts. What was interesting though, was that the 2 embies that were Grade 1 quality on day 2, didnt even get past the end of day3? They would have been the ones selected of had I of done a day 2 transfer. So not sure if this is good or bad.
Missy - thanks for the prayers - pray hard with everything crossed!
Keen - Still on the ribena in the water, I like to pretend its red cordial!
:cryinglaugh:
WIll certainly keep you girls informed, maybe you can keep me sane until my test.
-
Shaz - I also meant to add I am so sorry for the loss of your baby (ies). Yes S & J are twins. Humphrey's cherubs are not. We tend /try not post our signatures in AC threads out of consideration for LTTTCers.
I know some say be careful what you wish for - but I don't have any regrets at all. As long as you understand the risks. I was older too ;)
Yes it is possible to m/c twin embryos at different stages - very commonly losing one is vanishing twin syndrome - and can happen with or without bleeding.I was told about it. They said some can lose both.
I also had three other embryos that made it to blasts but were unsuitable to freeze- sorry for this hiccup.
We hoped and  too. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
:heartbeat: Trish

Dream bub I think it is possible for twins to go at different times. A friend of mine miscarried one twin but the other went to full term. She didn't know she was carrying twins and was in hospital recovering from a miscarriage when she found out she was actually still pregnant with the other twin.

Hi Everyone,
Just thought I would pop in to give you a running report through my 2ww.
Went in to the doc on Fri and he decided not to give me an injection (Pregnyl?) to support the embies as he was concerned about my swollen abdomen (and here was me thinking that morning I looked pretty flat!) & that the injection would only put me at risk of OHSS. He ordered me for a BT to check my prog levels and they came back at around the 350 level, apparenlty that's really good?
Anyway have had a few weird sensations - nothing exciting and nothing worrying. Not sure if my mind has taken over or not but the confidence I had last week has now gone and I am convinced we will get a BFN ? Maybe this is a self protection mechanism.... Also cant sleep ........and cant stand up for long.
I am going to do a HPT next Saturday the 25th. Doc's not doing the BT until the follwong Wednesday though I might just bring that 2 says forward if i can.
Thanks girls for your hopes and prayers, it means a lot and posting here helps the time pass quickly (that and the full series of Absolutely Fabulous).
-
Shaz- how are you going have you caved ?
-
Hi Baby Amore - not yet. I think Saturday will be the HPT day.
Its a week since Blast TF today. Is anyone aware of a HPT that might show earlier than day 10.
I dont feel pregnant :(
I always wonder if its NOT happening, as in no implantation by now, has it already failed or slow to implant.....
-
so you are 12dpo - Saturday is best day - if you are going to goodluck
-
Hi Dream
I wish you all the luck in the world for your bubs to take. Ill pray for you and I hope you bet a BFP on HPT and BT. Im also O- neg so know all about the Anti D shots. My son is also O - Neg. Let me know how your feeling. Any thing out of the dif.
:)
-
HI GIrls,
Thanksfor all the good luck wishes, I will use them wisely.
Just wondering if anyone knows how long it is after implantation that your body produces HCG.
2 days to go although I dont feel positive.:(
-
I got positive on day 14 I think (first day I tested) and others I know got on day 11 or so. goodluck and I didn't feel positive either .Be warned some IVF ladies here on BB got a BFN and went onto beta and were pregnant - one now has 7.5 month old bub.
-
I'm also one that got a BFN hpt x 3 at home to get a positive BT :) (not blast tho), You dont want to argue with a IVF nurse telling them that you cant be pregnant
Good luck only 1 sleep to go if you dont count tonight lol

Everything crossed for you Shaz!
-
Thanks Girls - dont know why but I feel more anxious than ususal. Of all the IVF ive done I have only ever done 1 HPT and that was last cycle where I got a BFP... Never entered my head before that to do one b4 that?? Bizarre.
-
HI GIrls,
Did th HPT and got my BFN I had dread:crying:
GOt a BT at the Docs on Wed - seems like a waste if time but they always insist.
Keen to go again straight away but I have no Snowbubs - so its a full stim cycle again, so I guess it will be in the new year.
Will post again when I feel more positive.:(
Thanks so much for all your prayers and good luck wishes.
-
 Shaz - hang in there it aint over till it's really over

Dream
Im so sorry. I know how you fell. I had my last blastie Implanted and it ended up being ectopic as you know so DH and I have to do it all again. Its hard and I know these things happen for a reason. Chin up hun. Im so sorry but it does get better... :)
-
Thanks Girls -
next cycle will be #11 IVF attempt (8th Full stim plus 3 FET's) and I sometimes wonder if it will happen. I know that sounds negative but I dont get why its been such a long haul, apparenlty my POS is just mild - so why such a problem. I am starting to think I have issues with implantation....:(
-
Sweetheart am so sorry to hear you were unsuccessful. Its just not fair. I hope number 11 is the one for you... :hugs:
-
Keen - Thanks for the hugs. Its nice to have support. :)
-
Hi Dreambub,
So Sorry to hear about your BFN - I haven't posted on here for a long while - Have been a little bit of a hermit, but have been checking the posts everyday.
I have just finished a full stim cycle at the exact time as you - my BT was set for yesterday but AF arrived in full flight Saturday night.
I had 2 hatching blasts transferred, but none to freeze, so we will be doing another full cycle asap in the new year, too.:crying:
This was our 4th full stim cycle, we have never had FET as our clinic will only do 5 day blasts and embies left have only been just past morula or at early blast stage, and apparently not good enough to freeze.
I know how you feel
xxx
-
Hi Holly, Very sorry to hear that you had AF arrived before the end of the 2ww. Seems as though we were at pretty much the same stage - my BT was due for 2moro, but since i posted yesterday AF arrived (last night), so no point at all now.
Went back to the doc today - more or less begged to go in to another cycle b4 Christmas and he resisted, explaining why that would be too damaging to the ovaries after the cycle Ive just done. This is a good thing and I guess confirms its not all about the money as he couldve simply agreed and been $5000 better off. So for me - back on Lucrin on the 10th Jan. Till then I am on Microgynin contraceptive pill to give the ovaries a holiday over Chrissy. I think it helps to know when your next cycle begins, gives you something to look forward to. Also starting Pilates tomorrow and Accupuncture and herbal medicines next week. Hopefully will improve the egg quality.
Do you mind me asking how many eggs you get at EPU? This time I started with 14 - ended up with only 2 blasties and like you, none to Freeze. Even more disappointed now, as if I had snowbubs I could have done another FET before Christmas. However out of 10 cycles - Ive only had 3 single FET's. I do prefer blast TF's though, even with that risk.
Maybe we will be doing our new cycle at the same time??
