I can't believe that my baby is nearly a month old already! Time has just flown by. Jacob has been going really well with his feeds - a lot more settled with the times now. Our next appt at the health centre is on Tuesday so we'll see what he is up to then.
On the family side of things Joshua had his first tennis game for the winter comp on Saturday and lost his double 6-5 but won his singles 6-1. Overall our boys won so they were pretty happy about that. Matthew had his second football game for the season today and unfortunately they were absolutely trampled on! 14 14 84 to 4 4 28 ](*,)

Nat - YAY for Jacob being nearly 1 month! Sounds like Joshua is going great guns with his tennis but it's a pity about Matthew's footy match. Losing so badly ain't much fun! Still, it's all part of the reason why we put our kids into sport, hey? So that they know how to be good losers as well as winners :)

Wow... this forum is small now... I hope Lesley and Dee join ASAP!

Hi,

I agree with you Deb - losing sports matches is so important for kids to learn to deal with. Especially team sports, like doubles. They need to know how to deal with their mates that may have cost them the game, and that it doesn't need to cost them a friendship!

Yay for Jacob being settled more Nat - I wish I could say that about Jenna, I guess she is getting a little more consistant, or is it that I'm not expecting as much from her anymore? It doesn't seem as tough anymore, except this nasty cracked nipple which seems to be getting worse - not better!! Dr's tomorrow, so I shall get her to check it out.

Shane went back to work today, boohoo. It is nice having a quiet house I have to admit, but I miss him too. I am yet to see him successfully put Jenna down and not have her wake up 15mins later!! He just doens't have the knack yet.

Kayla - you've been a bit quiet lately, hopefully just busy.

Fi - sorry to hear that nipple of yours isn't getting better. It looked soooo painful. My right nipple has been sore lately and it kills when Gabby initally starts sucking. It's nothing compared to what you have to go through! You poor thing. Hope the doc can fix it!

Fi - Hope your nipple gets better. I know how painful it can be. I have been lucky so far (touch wood) but Jacob seems to have the knack of this breastfeeding thing that my other boys didn't have.Funnily enough this time I was prepared for it and have shields, breast pump and a cabbage on hand for when they are needed.

I dont think its Jenna thats the problem!! She feeds really well. I think I was just a little lazy a couple of times, and let her get too far away from me with that pesky little arm of hers.
Anyway - drs in a couple of hours. Trying to decide whether to walk up (about 1.5km there) or drive. It will depend on missy moo's sleeps this morning.

Hope your doc visit went ok, Fi. Did you walk? We walked to ours. God it feels good to walk and not have ligament pain!

Fi - hope that you nipple is okay. I know it absolute kills and you just long for the day that it has healed.

I hope everything is okay Kayla, I know you are having a few troubles but I hope things get better soon.

Hey Nat, glad to see you are well and Jacob is going great, how did his appointment go?

:happybday: to Jacob!! Well 1 month birthday anyway :D

Jacob went really well at his appt yesterday. He has put on another 180gm and grown another 1cm so he is now 4210g (9lb 4oz) and 55cm long.
Has been really quiet around here the last few days. I have now managed to find the bottom of the towel/linen washing basket and did a little happy dance in the laundry. believe me with all the towels these boys go through this is a very rare occurance LOL! Also I have finally gone through my wardrobe to replace my maternity section with my old clothes and decided what fits and what going to fit and what is going on ebay :D Hopefully later on tonight I can organise some time to start taking photos etc so I can get rid of them and buy new ones :D

Yay on the clean out Nat!! I've started sorting mine from the washing pile when they come out, of course keeping out the stuff I still want to use. I have a couple of cool tops that I'll keep wearing that dont look preggie.
Congrats on one month!! Not long for me - I can't believe Jenna is nearly a month and still fits 0000 really well - like almost too big!!

Cracked nipple getting worse - have to stop feeding from it for 4-5 days,a nd getting nipple shields from the lactaction consultant today. Youchy. I'll find out if the swab dhowed up any infection tomorrow, and maybe have to go on antibiotics. Dr said it was one of the nastiest she had seen. Oh well - at least when I do something, I do it properly!!

Deb - didn't walk, the timing didn't work out right. So I got there about 30mins early and fed her before the appt, which worked out really well. Of course cause there is no medicare card for her, the appt cost me $105 for the both of us!!!!! I will apparently get all of it back bar $15, so I must trot off to medicare today and organise a card for her. That was for a pap-smear, a swab of the nipple, a minipill script and Jenna all checked out.

It's crazy how much the doctor visits cost, isn't it??
Mine cost $50 and they bulk billed Gabby (thank God!). I got $30 back so it still cost me $20 for a chat with the doc and a brief check of my wound. Hmmm... bit of a rip-off iyam!

I checked the bill, and Jenna's appt cost about $58 - unreal!!! i think it is becasue she hasn't got a medicare number yet. It would have been bulkbilled otherwise.
I dont mind paying mine, cause my dr is great, and like I said, I got a heap done.
Missy will not go down at the moment, she is being really unsettled, and apparently the pimples all over her face are indication of a growth spurt (have I said that already - I feel like I am repeating myself.....)
Anyway - hopefully thats all it is.
The nipple shield is working really well, its nowhere near as uncomfortable, so hopefully we start getting some healing happening. Am also on Voltaren for the inflammation, but thats just giving me a repeat indigestion thing, which I am anxious to avoid.

Well I guess I'm here by my lonesome, which seems pretty silly, so I might just head over to the 1-3 month a couple of days early. Saves people checking and posting in both I guess!! At least until Dee and Lesley get here! And probably a couple of others.

Well Pheonix is doing well. She is over the flu finally. Still will only sleep in her swing during the day and next to me in bed at nite. Dh is back on the mattress on the floor #-o .

I just dont seem to be getting anything done anymore. Desperately need Dh to find ajob again though so we can get into some kind of routine.

Fi hope your nipples heal quickly. I also got charged a fortune at the doctors.

Nat Yay on the getting a clean up done, I physically find it hard to change nixees nappy at the moment so a clean up is going to have to wait. Sounds like Jacob is doing great.

Happy Mothers Day to our brand new mums :D Hope the little ones give you a bit of rest today ;)

As for Lesley she will probably be here a bit more late this week or next week. She has mothercare come everyday as an early discharge program from the hospital and still has her mum staying with her, so has been a bit busy in their place. She said last night that mothercare is still there for another 4 days yet.

Well I`m finally here with little Matthew, well not so little, everyone comments on how big he is and long, he looks just like Daddy as I thought all along he would, so far he has been such a good little man, a couple of unsettled moments but will normally sleep for approx 3 hours after each feed.

We all came home today, I say all as it includes Mark as well, he has been wonderful has been with me every night in hospital except for the night before the funeral.

I`m feeling really tired, these broken sleeps really catch up with you. Will post more info tomorrow.

Well - its typical, but Jenna is a month today, so I can officially go to the next forum. Had my 4 week weighin yesterday and she is up to 4060g, 420g increase in 2 weeks!! No wonder that 0000 suit was hard to do up yesterday.

We were so glad to get out of our delivery hospital and transferred to our post natal hospital. At the delivery hospital they didn`t attend to me how they should, thankfully Mark was with me so he had two dependents while there, I was so sore that Mark had to help me out of bed, onto the toilet, off the toilet, having a shower, get my legs into my undies. It is amazing what they will do and there is no way I could have coped without him being there for me. Once we transferred over to the other Hospital it was so much nicer, we even had a double bed, they fed Mark plus there was only 1 other baby there plus a pregnant woman in for rest so it was very very quiet and the Midwives were lovely.

Mark coped better then we both thought at the funeral but I really think it`s because we had Matthew with us, Mark clung to him throughout the service, I`m just so thankful that it worked out that we were able to have Matthew with us on Friday, it was a very emotional draining day but he certainly helped the pain.

My little boy eats so much, on Thursday he had dropped 10% of his body weight and was down to 3820gms, by Sunday he was back up to 4150gms and yesterday when we were discharged he had passed his birthweight and is 4360gms and head circumference from 36cms to 37cms, they didn`t do his length but I`m sure he`s grown in that direction also. I can`t believe where I put him, he is just so big no wonder I was so uncomfortable, he`s the biggest baby on my side of the family.

Matthew is so alert but hardly ever grizzles and if he does it doesn`t take much for him to stop, he`ll often self settle himself in his cradle. We had a good night last night, slept from 11pm to 2pm, down again at 2.50am where he settled himself up at 7am, and this morning he was down at 9am up at 12pm, had a feed then went to sleep feeding so was down again at 12.30pm.

BF is going great, Midwives at Post Natal Hospital kept praising me on how successful the BF was going for a 1st time Mum, they`ll give me a 10/10, It was so lovely to hear.

Hopefully I`ll have some company in here soon but if not I`m sure you`ll find me in here talking about my wonderful husband and son..

Matthew sounds like he is doing wonderfully, hope you and Mark are also doing well. Thank goodness Mark was there for you at the hospital.

I am soo glad to hear that the breastfeeding is going well too.

Please put up some piccies of the little man soon!

Yay for Mark being so helpful at the hospital Dee :) I wish Aaron was allowed to stay, he was only allowed in during normal visiting hours, so I left my showers until he could come in, dry my legs & help me get dressed.

Sarah - What a shame that Aaron couldn`t stay, they are such a great help when you really need them. I was a bit worried about getting into our shower at home as it`s over the bath but I think Mark was more worried then me as he came in to make sure I could get over the bath.

Nell - I`m going to get Mark to put some photos up later today, we already have 2 rolls of film developed plus whats on the digital plus we`re half way through another roll of film. I have a number of photos from the c/s, I think they are just incredible so will put those up too, they start from just his head being out to his whole body, they are lovely to have since I didn`t see any of that, they did pop me up when he was fully out though.

Yay Dee - so nice to hear your news. I'm pleased you had Matthew there for the funeral, it must have made it so much more bearable - if that is at all possible.
You are really lucky to have photos of the c/s. Shane tried to take photos of me in theatre, and they wouldn't let him past the curtain until Jenna was delivered and he cut the cord. Cherish those ones.

It sounds like there will be a heap of people in here to join you soon.... but please pop into the 1-3mth if you get lonely. I have a funny feeling you might not have too much time to surf the net though! Other priorities and stuff. And big pat on the back for Mark, he sounds like an angel.

Dee - sounds like things are going marvelously for you guys! Wow @ Matthew stacking on the weight before you guys came out of hospital. That's great! Sounds like Mark has been a tower of strength too. Good on him! It was great that he was able to stay in with you.

Sarah - I can't believe that Aaron could only come in to see you during visiting hours! Neil was allowed in at any time of the day (I think partners have to leave around 9-10pm tho). In saying that though, the visiting hours for Geelong is only 4pm-8pm so I guess they have to let partners come in.

Our visiting hours were 10am-12.30pm then 2.30pm-8.00pm. Aaron asked to stay a bit longer on our last night there cos Zander was screaming & I wasn't coping but they said no. I was in a private room too, so it's not like we would be bothering anyone.

OMG, that is ridiculous, Sarah! We were in shared rooms and Neil was never made to feel bad for staying. In fact, he was in my bed half the time (one of the days he was sooooo hung over, LOL). The midwives just laughed and joked saying that he should be careful laying in a hospital bed because he might end up with an enema! He probably could have used one! ;) He also would feast on my meals half the time and, again, they didn't mind. Sounds like the hospital you went to is pretty fussy! Will you go to the same one for your next baby?

Sarah - Thats terrible that Aaron couldn`t stay even after asking and your left there with a screaming baby. At both hospitals visiting hours were from 3pm - 8pm but DH`s could be there 24/7 if they wanted plus my Dad came in each morning and at my Postnatal hospital they really didn`t mind when visitors came in, guess because it was so quiet.

It was my Dad`s Birthday yesterday so didn`t have a chance to pop on to BB.

I`m sure Matthew is growing before my eyes, with the amount of milk he drinks it`s no wonder. I had a glorious time with him this morning I was changing his pooey nappy then he decided to do another poo so it all ened up in his blanket since that was the closest thing around then to top it off decided I might wee as well, talk about a fountain LOL then he decided I might bring up some excess milk so Mummy was up to her arms in poo, wee and milk delightful :D

Matthew has a couple of sore spots in his groin area, not sure what they are but they are small round fluid filled sores wondering if they might be boils, keeping a close eye on them and if they get worse will have to take him to the Dr`s, at the moment they don`t seem to be worrying him.

Have just found out this morning that my 18year old Neice is 20 weeks pregnant, Mark and I are not at all surprised her Mum has been nagging her for a good 18 months or more for a Baby, makes you wonder WHY?? But appartenly she`s gone into premmie labour today and is 3 cms dilated, they are going to try to stitch the cervix closed but there are lots of risks involved and things aren`t looking good. Makes me wonder if it`s happened because of the lifestyle my neice and her BF lives.

Dee - sounds like Matthew might have a staff infection? Gabby had a few of those spots when she was only about a week old. The dom nurse told me to buy some tea-tree oil, dilute it with cool boiled water and dab some on the sores each nappy change. I also had to put tea-tree oil in her bath. They disappeared after a few days.
LOL @ the wees and poos AND spew! OMG - coming out of every opening, hey? Good that you can laugh about it (though I am sure it wasn't funny at the time!). Hope you had a good day for your Dad's birthday yesterday :)

As for the hospital - liek Deb says, partners were allowed 9-9, but I dont think they cared all that much. My Mum spent most of the day there, and because she was quiet, noone really minded. The second day there (I only had two...) she looked after Jenna the whole "rest period" between 2:30 and 4, and I was able to sleep. Its all very well having a hospital policy of having babies in the room, but hard to get some sleep in those first days. If I only knew then what I know now. Man I would have slept, and slept and slept, and not worried about her at all.

The spots you are talking do sound liek Gabby's spots that she had - and like deb said, just a staph infection that cleaned up fairly easily from what I understand. Hopefully are you seeing any more midwives? Hopefully if you get to see one in the next couple of days they will help you out.

hey girls,
sorry its taken me ages to post. Chloe has been making me very tired, also have an allergy rash which is quite painful and stopped me from breast feeding so I can take anti histamine's..

other then the no sleep, shes doing well, she was weighed on friday and is 210 gms over her birth weight, she lost 400 gms in the first few days so shes put all that back on plus a lil more in a week and a half, thats when I was breast feeding though, we've now put her onto bottles and i feel like a failure really, now she seems to be constipated and in alot of pain somewhere and I blame myself for the rash and not standing it and taking her off the breast, anthony says its not my fault, i wouldnt of been able to breast feed if i was ill anyway..The rash is extremly itchy still but i think the anti histamines are starting to work..

chloe had those spots too, the staff infection, all we did was put betadine (sp?) on them at every nappy changed and they've all cleared now..

anthony stayed over night with me in hopsital when chloe was born, then i went home the next day anyway

well off to get some sleep... wishful thinking there..gotta go for a drive in the morning to meet anthonys parents as they arrive.. my mum is being a right pain in the bum.. but ill explain about that more later...

Lesley - sorry to hear about your rash and having to give up breast feeding. Anthony is right tho - you can't let yourself feel guilty about it. You did what you needed to do at the time. You can't change it so try not to stress about it because little Chloe will pick up on that stress. Gosh, I almost gave up breast feeding 1000 times in the first few weeks and I didn't have anything near like what you have to push me over the edge. I think if I did have something major, it wouldn't have taken much convincing to get me to bottle-feed her. I hope things start settling down for you soon. Great to hear the wonderful weight-gain that Chloe had! Sorry to hear your Mum is being a pain. Hope you got some sleep!
