Caesarean Chatter #4
Welcome to the caesarean chatter thread!
Did you have a caesarean? Was it an elective caesarean or an emergency caesarean? How did you feel about it? Are you planning on having a caesarean (an elective caesarean or for medical reasons)?
Discuss your thoughts and feelings here!
-
Continuing our previous line of thought..
So I can blame my flabby tummy on my c/s??? Not the 250gms of chocolate I seem to consume each day??? (not serious!)
I wanna know the name of the doc who does the tummy tuck with the c/s!
(although I am planning a VBAC for this one... that might prove a little difficult...)
-
Ok, a question for you all
Do you believe if you have a c-section with a private hospital/Dr that you will have more control or more say in the whole procedure as opposed to going public?
My DD was born in a public hospital who were great, but I keep thinking of how I really don't want a catheter, if the epidural doesnt work again and I need a GA, will they still let DH cut the cord... you get the idea!
I feel that by going private I might get some input. So what do you all think? Am I just being silly or what? 8-[

Nic... is it possible to have a c-section and not have a catheter?? I would have thought it was something that just had to happen - public or private?
I went public and Neil was able to cut the cord for Gabby's c-section (although, it was already cut away from the placenta - he just cut it to make it shorter).
-
Nic,
I had a csec in a private hospital and it was elective - a decision made by myself and then supported by my doctor.
We had input into the date and my hubby was present for the cord cutting and first cuddles, I was under the impression that if things went wrong with the epidural or any other problems they would give me a general no matter what, and DH was to be removed from the theatre.

Deb Aaron got the same - cut the cord after it was cut away, I guess they wouldn't like dad down there to see all the yucky stuff maybe.
I don't have the flabby hangy bit that you guys are talking about, maybe I was just lucky?
-
LOL - I had the flabby hangy bit before I got pregnant so it's not such a big deal for me... kind of used to it!! ;)
-
hehehee Deb!!
Sarah - yep, you're lucky!!!
-
My Dr told me way back when, that if I did the right type of exercises and lost some of my tummy weight my flabby bit would go. I was very sad I have to say that I got one, up until pregnancy I have never had any flabby bits or saggy bits for that matter. And mine actually arose during the last month of pregnancy, its said that if you have a high baby it can also happen as all the fat on your tummy falls to the lower part iykwim. Which is exactly what happened to me. I had hoped it would go away but alas it didn't. Here's hoping I'll have better luck this time, although I think this bubba likes it up high too!
*hugs*

I didn't have any flappy/saggy/hangy bits before PG either Cai. It's a bit depressing isn't it!!
-
Hehehe... I was hoping that pregnancy would "even out" my lumps and bumps. How wrong I was!! ;) Although... I must say... it was nice to walk around without having to worry about my belly sticking out for a while. It was good to feel pregnant instead of just fat, LOL.

Hi,
I thought I would join you all in this thread. Had an emergency c/s on 4/7/05 after a long labour (see birth story). I was wondering how long you had pains for. I get some short pain a few times a day and am wondering if it is normal or not. I mentioned it to my Ob and he wasn't concerned. The reason I am asking is that we want to TTC in the next couple of months and I am trying to find out more info and get medical clearance first.
-
I had pains on and off till about 18 mths after with Paris. Everyone is different, one friend had it for 3 yrs and another just a few months.
Goodluck!
*hugs*

I seem to get pains when I do anything too strenuous - like doing a major clean of the house ie all rooms, dusting, vaccuuming etc. Also after walking for a long time, I mean all day not just an hour sort of thing.
-
I don't think it's possible to have a caesarean and NOT have a catheter. The reason being that when you have the op, your bladder becomes traumatised and many women lose the urge to urinate. Thus the catheter. That and the fact that after major abdominal surgery, the last thing you want to do is have to get up and go to the toilet. OUCH!
Sadly, I had my flabby bits before I was pg, they just got worse and then when I lost 54 kgs it got worse again.
Have to agree with Deb that at least when pg, it is a socially acceptable excuse to be 'fat'! It's the only time in my life when I don't feel that others are passing judgement on my size.
-
I think I had pains on and off for a good few months Gemma.
I think you're right Tiff, that you can't have a c/s without a catheter.
-
Thanks Melinda, Cailin & Sarah, it is reassuring to know I am not the only one with the pains. I was glad I had a catheter because you don't feel it when it goes in and who wants to worry about going to the toilet straight after surgery. Speaking of flabby bits, I got DH to feel mine today when I was walking, feels so wobbly. In a strange mood today. My SIL is having plastic surgery to get rid of hers after she has her 2nd in Feb.
-
Gemma,
That is my plan too, after I have had these bubs...and lose all the weight again...a tummy tuck and a boob job!!!
-
Ooo... me too! I definitely want a boob job. I imagine after finishing with kids, they will be swinging like pendulums!
*Debbie starts singing* "Do your boobs hang low, do they wobble to and fro?" ;)
-
A tummy tuck and a boob job sounds great add me too that list :)
I am still sore now and again my trouble is Kimberley likes to try and roll or jump on me and that is when it hurts the most.
-
LOL @ you girls.
I need a bit more up top, even with full breastfeeding BB`s I`ve only gone up one size.
Gemma - I only get pain occasionally now and seems to happen a lot when I`m doing a bit too much BDing  Guess all those muscles in that area are working.
-
Thanks guys, I wasn't sure if you could get away without a catheter or not? But I did think I read on here somewhere that someone got away without having one? Maybe it's just all in my head!! :)

When I had my c-section I had a catheter & quite frankly I'm not sure you would manage without one ~ well not IMO anyway.
I hear you on the boob thing ~ I hate looking at mine in the mirror, certainly no resemblance to anything perky there & I'm sure if I tried hard enough I could tuck them into my knickers!!
-
Guys,
I've split this topic, so that the posts that are relating to boob jobs etc, can be found here in the General Health, Fitness & Well-Being Forum.
-
LOL Melinda - we did get rather off-track there, didn't we?? Ooops! 8-[
-
Has certainly taken off in the other forum. Another question, AF has returned for the second time since the caesar and I had some very major clotting yesterday. Anyone else get this, again wondering if it is normal.
-
From memory, with my first couple of AF's, they were a bit clotty Gemma, but after that, I didn't get any clotty-stuff.
-
I've had spotting a couple of times but they have been a few months apart and nothing really to write home about (not that I would do that... ;) ).
-
Is Trish still around??
I found a couple of old posts that said you didn't have a catheter with you c/s. Am I reading that right?
Nic
-
](*,) I spoke too soon. AF arrived yesterday and, this time, it's reminicent of the old days!! No clotting tho, Gemma.
-
Nic - perhaps post a message for her in 'Messages for Other Members'. She is definitely around!
Argh Debbie....yucky AF!!!
-
Thanks Mel, I will do that! :)

DH and I are looking at having our next baby soon and I posted a question in baby discussion. Not sure if you know the info below (copied from the other post). We weren't aware of this.
Saw my Ob today and he still says 6 months since the birth before getting pg again. The main reason is the placenta can fuse the the caesarean scar and the worst case is a hysterectomy and half of my bladder removed. There are no actual stats on this because not too many people get pg straight away after caesareans. He checked my scar and was happy how it looks and he did say that if I did get pg now it would probably be okay. Saw a GP yesterday and he said it was okay as the uterus doesn't expand until 3-4 months into pg. Got my blood test back and all okay apart from low iron which is normal for me. I am supplementing iron as I knew it would be low.
This is a major risk so DH and I are going to discuss it further.
I think we are both heading towards waiting until December which will be 6 months after Amy's birth, It will only be another 4 months and the babies will be 15 months apart which is still close.
-
Gemma - yep.. the babies will still be close. My 2 youngest sisters were 16 months apart and people confused them for twins alllll the time. They are pretty close too... but, then, I am close with my other sister that was born 2 years after me. Could be because we shared bedrooms for many, many years, LOL.
Good luck with it all! It's great that your GP has given you the all clear. Sending lots of baby dust for December!!
-
Gemma - you got me a bit worried there saying about the risks of having another baby so close to the first after having a c/s but as it turns out it`s not easy falling pregnant whilst breastfeeding so Matthew`s going to be a bit older before #2 comes along.
-
Hey ladies, I posted a quick message for Trish and she replied that she did not have a catheter with her c/s. All I can do now is hope that whenever the day comes, I might be lucky enough to not have one as well. :D

Hi everyone, just wanted to jump in on your thread if that is ok?
i am having an elective c/section on 7th october, for medical reasons. so i was hoping i might be able to prepare myself by learning from you guys and asking lots of questions - hope that is ok!!
so, i was wondering - do they put the catheter in before or after you have the spinal block? and how long does it stay in for afterwards,
thanks all,
Linda
-
I had mine placed after the epidural as I was in labour for a while before the spinal block (which went in as I went into theatre). My cathetre stayed in for 12 hours.
-
Hi Linda, ask away!
Firstly, I had a catheter put in whilst in labour which once my bladder had drained, was then removed. It was because I had lost the ability to go and I had this thing whilst in labour to keep going to the toilet whenever I thought about it to drain my bladder - sounds strange, but apparently it's common to forget to go and with the water/ice you're consuming, you definitely need to drain it. Plus, you can easily lose the sensation from all the pressure. Honestly, I didn't feel the catheter put in at all, but I was pretty anxious about it at the time........I was amazed that I wasn't more uncomfortable, but I guess being in labour, I was preoccupied with the pain from that!?
Then, when I had the epidural, another one was put in. And then when I wound up having the caesarean, it was already in place and it stayed in until I was allowed out of bed 24 hours later. It felt a bit peculiar for a couple of days after it was removed because I didn't feel the need to go, but I kept taking myself off to the loo and sitting there until something happened LOL!!
-
Linda - My catheter was put in after the spinal block was inserted and it was taken out mid afternoon the next day, I was really worried about the catheter hurting but off course I didn`t feel a thing with it going in neither did I when they took it out.
