Hi,

Hope you're all having a cruisy Sunday! I left Louis with dh this morning and went on a bit of a shopping spree at Eastland! Bought some new clothes etc - I think I deserve it - hehe!

DH is off to work tomorrow so it will be interesting to see how the week goes. Louis is being pretty good and seems to be lasting more 3 1/2-4 hours at the moment. I so hope he stays that way!

We put him in his 0000 outfit that we first had him in after birth and he's pretty much grown out of it! His little feet are too big for the space! hehe. It was a pretty small outfit though. He still fits into his other 0000 clothes but it's exciting to see the changes so obviously.

kristie is louis bottle and breast feeding,i dont think my dh would know what to do with chantelle if he had to look after her,your dh sounds great

Nikki - I'm breastfeeding - My shopping trips have to be rushed in between feeds!

Yep - My dh is doing really well. I haven't even bathed Louis yet - he's been doing that. It's actually a big surprise in some ways because he wasn't very big on helping out with anything before Louis arrived and now he's helping out with everything. He has had a couple of weeks off though and he's back to work tomorrow so we'll see if it keeps up!! He's been getting his sleep at nights though so sometimes he's fresher than me through the daytime.

Hope everyone's had a fab weekend and that your babes have been delightful. The weather has been sensational here in Sydney and Gussyboy's been a happy little fella today. I've just woken from a lovely snooze with Gussyboy to the smell of homemade pizzas cooking. My DH is a really good cook so am really looking forward to tucking into dinner in a little while.

Kristie, It's great to hear things are going so well for you and DH with lil Louis. Your DH sounds smitten with his little boy. How did your shopping trip go? It's tricky buying clothes in the first few weeks post delivery - while your tum is shrinking away it's tricky knowing what size to buy.

Nikki, How are your boys handling the change in focus now that Chantelle is home? Must be a bit of a shock for them. Are they able to be of help to you and Grant?

Linda, Am sorry to hear your caesar wound is causing you grief. I found my post op caesar pain improved exponentially after a couple of weeks. Hope the same happens for you.

I am just popping in to see how the new mothers and bubs are going.

Kirsty - I am glad to see that Gus is doing well. He is really is a trooper and what a story for his 21st about his entry into the world. Iam sure he will suceed at everything in life as he certainly has that fighting spirit.

Krisvee - I am glad to hear the DH has taken such a keen interest in the baby. It is really is special i think for them to bond early on as we have had 9 months of bonding already.

Linda - I hope that you start to feel better soon.

Well Louis has been a little cheeky this morning. I think he must be needing more awake time because he did not want to go to sleep! I gave him tummy time which he did really well at and then had to put him in the bouncer in the bathroom so I could have a shower!

Tracey - Not long now! I can't wait until you join us in here with your little bundle! Rest up now!

Kirsty- Ooh homemade pizza - yum! Lucky you that dh can cook! Luckily I'm back into my normal clothes with just a bit of extra tummy - 3kg to go! I'm hoping with this beautiful weather it shouldn't be too hard to lose with some walking. I bought a bikini with a singlet top though because of my stretchies - grrr.

OK better go - still not dressed and have dishes and washing to hang out - it's a beautiful day in Melbourne today!

Hi Girls.

I've finally found some time to spend on the computer. Tristan's being a little pain at the moment. I still am a bit slow to getting the automatic fountain under control whenever I change him!!!! He's peed alot on his father, once on the door in the kitchen (when we had the change table in there for bath), once on the midwife on a home visit, once on his own face (poor little man). Oh well.

What brand of disposable nappies do you guys use? I've found that huggies are best. I tried the babylove ones, but it left these little silicon like balls all over Tristan's bum. I don't know if they're harmful because it would be a pity to waste them (we've got 3 big packs). I've been meaning to go cloth nappies, but Tristan's Still getting used to my milk, and it's a disaster zone down there!!!

Kirsty - Jealousy has kicked in. I love homemade pizza, especially with the gourmet stuff on it like eggplant, artichoke, sun dried tomato, salami, kalamata olives, bocconcini and roasted capsicum. Yummo!!!!

Linda & Nikki - I didn't think they used staples anymore. I've got dissolveable stitches. Are you guys getting niggling pains above your scars?

Hey Bonnie! Congrats on your little boy!

Yep - we've had the water fountain thing happening as well! Also from his bum as well - hehe. dh has been peed on a couple of times as well as pooed on as have I. We've both caught vomit as well! Oh the joy of it all -hehe.
We're using huggies as well. We haven't had any accidents with these yet (other than once when we didn't do it up tight enough - hehe) We have cloth nappies as well and when we run out of newborn disposables will be using them mainly. He doesn't really fit into the towelling nappies yet and the flannelette ones seemed to get drenched.

hi bonnie,congats again on little tristan,great name.i had disolvable stitches as well.my scar is still open at one end and bleeding every day.it is not painful just looks really yucky.this did not happen with m,y first 2.mine is actually raelly itchy.
i am using disposable huggies also.
LOL at the fountain,i can remember that,it doesnt seem to happen with little girl,although as i held her against me last night as i was about to bath her i got piddled on down my front followed by a vomit down my top.hee hee.

kristie, we use a dummy a bit, but emma is not really all that interested. she only takes it when she is hungry, then it frustrates her within a minute because she realises she cant get any milk out of it. she does like sucking her fingers though....

nikki, glad to hear your scar isnt hurting, i hope it heals soon for you though.

bonnie, i am using huggies as well. i have found them really good, no leaks. that sounds weird about the baby love ones. maybe you could put liners in them and use what is left, just not to waste them? i didnt think they used staples anymore either. but it was a locum OB who did it, a lot of the staff were surprised he used them too :-s but they all said he did a really good job anyway.

well, Emma has had restless nights the last 2 nights. she wants to feed almost constantly for about 1 1/2 hours at around midnight, then up every 2 1/2 - 3 hours for the rest of the night. i hope it is just a growth spurt and she has longer breaks soon.....

Just got back from Maternal child health appointment.

Louis has put on 380g this week and has grown 3.5cm in length and his head has grown 3cm! Woo hoo.

No wonder he's feeding so much - hehe. It's good to know that he's growing well though.

Linda - I can totally relate. I could not settle Louis this morning at all. He had about 30min sleep from 8.30am - 1.30pm. Not good. He's asleep now though thank god! Also last night he had a really long feed and then I realised he was using me as a dummy! So just before I broke him off and he seemed to settle o.k. All this stuff to learn. The nurse today gave me a video to watch about settling and sleep which was really helpful. Hopefully I can try a few things although he's a bit little for some of it. They really encourage you to put bubba to sleep awake and to not feed them to sleep. I've been doing both of those things - whoops. It's hard at this age though because they do get so sleepy.

we are using a dummy although she only takes it when she wants it,usually as she falls off to sleep.
mat health nurse came by,chantelle is growing nicely.she has told me to see gp tomorrow about my scar,she said it is terrible and needs sterie strips.had to pick up both boys from school today as they were sick,one with an ear ache the other one headache and vomiting.oh dear what a day.

Oh Nikki - that's no good about your scar.

I don't know how you cope with two boys as well - and sick! I don't know how I'll go when the time comes for no.2! They are so demanding and tiring. Maybe it's a bit easier if you know what your doing - hehe.

I hope you can put them all to bed and have a bit of a rest!

nikki, im glad you are going to the gp about your scar. i hope he is able to help with it. sounds like you really have your hands full at the moment.

kristie, that video sounds great. please let me know if you have any pearls of wisdom to pass on!! i put Emma down while she is still awake and she settles fine, i guess im more wondering if there is any pattern to getting longer breaks between feeds.

as for MCHN, i havent seen anyone at all yet, and Emma is 3 weeks old tomorrow. they said someone would come around after 2 weeks. i rang them today and they said it would be another 5 days before anyone even called me. so i am going to my gp, not going to wait any longer.

Wow Linda - that's ages. I wouldn't be happy with that at all. I had someone come to my home after 5 days at home and then this is my 2 week appointment.

The only thing the video said was I suppose using a dummy but other than that it said that from newborn to 3months expect 1 1/2 hours up 1 1/2 hours down and then from 3 months 2 hours up 2 hours down.

I really want 4 hour cycles now!!! hehe.

just a quick catch up. Eden is gret - feeding and sleeping well still so far (fingers crossed) DS is adjusting really well so far (fingers crossed again) not much pain from the scar but have a few heamorroids - thought I would escape it this time (sorry for TMI). Had a visit from a Dom nurse today to check on Eden and on fri the MCH nurse is coming out for the home visit. Glad to hear that everyone is doing reasonably well. Does anyone know how to post pictures on the site???? I'm not to good with that kind of stuff. Eden is starting to fill out now - not so scrawny looking from being prem. Took her out for her first stroll in the pram this arvo - Brandan rode his bike, hubby chased him and Eden and I just cruised - lovely family portrait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Girls.

Nikki - Not good about your scar. Mine had a bit of a weep the last day I was in hospital, but all fine now. Try and rest a bit more (impossible with 2 boys I guess), but that might do you and your scar the world of good.

Went to the GP today to get more drugs. Yay. Feel better now. Doc took the dressing off of the scar. Damn it hurt. But he said that it's healing well. I've still got pains on my right side. If the pain is still there next week, I'll have to go and have an ultrasound to see what's wrong. I hope everything's alright. I don't feel the pain when I take the tablets though.

Kristy - So far we've (me and DH) been lucky and haven't been crapped on by Tristan
:crossfingers: . Shouldn't speak too soon though. I haven't been weed on either.Yay. But I've been spewed on plenty of times. Oh well. We're using the towelling nappies as spew catchers at the moment because Tristan is too small. We use dummy for Tristan mainly for bedtime, but usually he's too tired to suck on it!!!!!

Linda - Thanks for the advice about using a nappy liner in the babylove nappies. I never thought of that, now we don't have to waste them. We would have given them away, but we don't have to now!! Sometimes there's no point in waiting for people to call you. I have to call the nurse tomorrow to get them to come out to see us. How slack is that!!

Kazzy - It's great that you can take Eden for a stroll so early. I'm still waiting to feel a bit better before I take Tristan out for walks. I hate cesareans!!!!!!

Geez. Feels like I've written a novel tonight!!! Better go for a quick nap before Tristan wakes again.

well everyone - emma had a great night last night!! Yay!! she went for 4 1/2 hours between feeds, then 3 1/2 for the next, and i was only up for about 25 minutes each time. i feel really good after a better nights sleep.

kazzy - its great to hear that eden is doing so well. as far as pictures on your post, i dont think you are allowed, but you can make your own free website and put it as your www link. if you go to my www you should be able to find where you can make your own (and it is a lot easier than you probably think LOL) HTH

bonnie - glad to help with the nappies!! glad you feel better with the drugs. i took all they would give me at the hospital, and it really helped me cope so much better. i hope there is no problem with the healing for you. hope you are resting heaps.

Well Emma and i just went for a nice long walk in the sunshine (it was so HOT!!). We went yeserday too and she just slept the whole time. It has really done me good to get out in the outdoors. We are off to the GP soon, just for the checkup that we should have had with the nurse last Tues!! im looking forward to introducing Emma to my GP though, cause he is a really lovely Dr. and helped me heaps throughout my pg, probably more than my OB,

Well I've been having a bit of trouble settling Louis still - grrr. I've tried all the techniques on the video except a dummy. So this morning when he wouldn't settle I thought I would try. Would you believe after spitting it out once he started sucking away and fell straight asleep! I can't believe it. I always thought I wouldn't use one. I don't know why - you know how some things you just think are bad for some reason?? I've learnt so much about not having ideals with a bubba - from labour and now in looking after him. Big learning curve.

Well, I'm off to work this afternoon. Just for a few hours. My sister is meeting me and going to take Louis for a walk while her kids have swimming lessons so that will be good. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to get through the next 4 weeks but I'm sure I'll cope somehow. There is so much to organise with the concert still - I'm starting to stress out a bit.

Yeah on your walks. It seems to settle bubbas really well. It's raining in Melb today so no walks for us. Maybe tomorrow.

Yep Nikki - I hate it when it's like this. It's quite warm but you don't feel like you can really enjoy it because it could rain any minute.

I got him down easy this feed. It's pretty much every second feed he has a whinge. Oh well, at least I have the dummy for if he doesn't settle.

I just tried to put my pram in the boot of the car and I can't make it fit! Grrr. Very frustrating.

Hi girls. :smt039 What a weird day it is today in Sidoneey. Perfect blue skies one minute and torrential rain the next. I am desperate to pop out for a walk with Gussyboy in a sling (am feeling a bit cabin feverish and the sling stops his crying) but dare not risk it at the moment. Even with an umbrella we'd get soaked. Hopefully the afternoon will settle into sunshine so we can head out for a little bit.

Well my sweet lil boy still seems to be a screamy one. If anyone has any magic colic/reflux remedies, I'd love to hear them. So far we've tried Zantac, Infacol and Brauers Colic remedy all without success. Gus screams from about 9pm each night and stops about 5am the next morning. He barely gets more than 20 mins sleep in between feeds overnight. Then during the day he screams for at least an hour out of every three hours most feeds. His doc thinks the initial cause of the screaming is colic/reflux but escalates into a temporary hernia when he strains. Gussyboy was born at the time when lil boys testis are still descending down a passage and due to his prematurity the passage didn't close off (called a hydrocele (sp?)). So when he gets colic/reflux pain he strains and pushes his bowel into this passage and it gets trapped causing a temporary hernia. Apparently this is particularly painful. This problem can be corrected with an operation, however he's still to weak to handle general anaesthetic. So whilever his bowel can pop back out by itself, he has to live with this problem for another 3-6 months. Aghhhh tis very exhausting. Wish I knew how I could comfort and settle him better. I feel that if we could get the colic/reflux under control then that would stop the cycle that causes him to strain and push his bowel into the passage. We're having our 2nd Tresillian day-stay on Thursday. Hopefully that will shed some light on things I can do differently.

I think I managed about 20mins sleep total last night. Have spent this morning trying to nap in between his cries. He wakes himself to feed every three hours on the dot (how does he know what time it is?!) so there's not a lot of time in between. We're still needing to give him EBM bottle top ups after breastfeeding 'cause his sucking sux (!!) so the whole feed and colic crying process seems to fill at least 2 of the 3 hours. No time to get anything done. Don't know how I'd manage if there were other kiddies to be looked after!

Kristie - Great news about the dummy helping. What sort did you get? We've been offering a couple of different brands to Gus - but so far he's not the least bit interested unless he's hungry.
What's the name of the settling video you've been watching?
Bummer about your pram not fitting into your boot. Can you take the wheels off?
Good luck with work this afternoon. You're a wonder! :D Can your DH cook for you or can you get takeaway for dinner tonight? You'll no doubt be extra tired this evening.

Linda - Congrats on having a better night last night. Maybe Emma's lil growth spurt has taken place and she's now settling into her new hunger levels a bit better. Long may it continue! Tis amazing how desperate we can be for a little more sleep these days and how grateful we are if it comes off! Great to hear you are getting out in the pram. Bring on those natural exercise endorphins!

Re nappies, we're using Huggies to. I'm really happy with them so far.

Kazzy - great to hear things are going so well. Lovely mental image of you, Eden, your DH and Brandon. Don't you wish you could capture those moments on video?!

Nikki - How are you feeling today? Did your GP have anything useful to suggest for how to help speed up the healing process with your scar?
BTW, what sort of dummy are you using with Chantelle?

kirsty - im sorry to hear that gus has such bad reflux and pain, poor little mite - not to mention you. it is good you are able to go to tresillian, that would be such a life saver i imagine. i hope you are able to pick up some great tips there. going for a walk with gus in the sling sounds like a great idea, it is amazing what 1/2 an hour outdoors does for your mental state. i hope the weather clears for you.

kristie - it is great that Louis is taking the dummie and it is helping. i agree with nikki - whatever works!! Emma has been feeding like mad today, so i have just given her her dummie, just to get a break. she takes it , but pulls it out so i have to go and put it back in for her pretty often.

gotta cut it short - Emma calls!!!!

ok i'll finish now....Emma and i just had a bath together. it is so hot here!! had to cool us both down, and now she is settled.

went to the dr. Emma has put on 800g since birth!!! Wow!! Now i know where all that milk is going! all seems to be well, no other news to report.

ooohh kirsty big hugs to you and gussy boy,it must be heart renching seeing him in pain like that all the time,not to mention the lack of sleep you are having,i hope dh is letting you get a nap when you can.i am using the cheap cherry shapped dummy fron safeway i have tried 2 others and she doesnt like them,my boys also favoured the cheap one also.
went to the gp and turns out that it is infected and i have to go on antibiotics,i am going to wait though to see if it heals on its own for a couple of days as i dont want chantelle to get thrush in her mouth from the antis.he also had to steri strip the whole thing as it is gapping open and not able to heal itself while the gaps are so big,not painful though just have to take it easy so as not to have my insides fall out.
linda i wish we were havinbg some warm weather.it has rained all day here,the forcast has said showers for the week but warm@25 degrees so that is ok.we start daylight savings here on the weekend,looking forward to that although it is harder to get the boys in bed on time.chantelle has put on 200 grms since arriving home.

I'm using the cheap happy baby (I think) dummy. So far so good.

Work was good. Louis was so good. My sister took him for a while and then he slept in his pram and the car! So I didn't have to feed him there which was good.

Kirsty - Just jumping in here to say that my little girl has Reflux too - was (is) a terrible feeder and gets big bouts of trying to suck but crying and in obvious pain. She's on Losec now. It's prescription only and the paed put us onto it. Very exy though. It's usually in a tablet but a few places will make it up into liquid form for a bub. It's $48 for 100ml though (and she gets 2 ml a day) - but some rebatable if you have private health. I really hope you get some answers soon - you need more sleep woman!

I ended up getting the pram in the boot - with much force - hehe. I'm sure it will get easier the more I get used to it.
The video is called "time to sleep". It's hosted by jennifer Keyte. I'd say the most invaluable bit of advice on it for us was that you can use a dummy!

I had a much better nights sleep - Louis went 4h - 3.5h - 3.5h which enabled me to get 9 hours sleep over the night!!! ( that was from around 7pm - 8.45am! hehe)

Louis is intermittent with his dummy use. Some sleeps he needs it and others he doesn't. I'm just using it when he doesn't settle very well.

Linda - That's so cute you had a bath together. I haven't done that but I want to. Louis screams in the bath so I wondered weather he would like to have one with him Mummy! I might have to try it soon. Wow on the weight gain. It's exciting though isn't it! It makes you feel good!!

Nikki - Sorry to hear about your infection. I hope it clears up for you soon! I forgot about daylight savings - grr at losing an hours sleep but yeah on having some warm weather and longer days!
