im hoping that having dr Soo his costs are the same with pricing that where in the booklet?? worried when i go there gunna give me a ridiculas price!!! how many attempts have to had?? and have you heard of one egg splitting ?? im scared!! Brooke
-
Hey Brooke, I'm seeing Prof Illingworth who I think is the Medical Director of IVFAustralia.
Will you be meeting with Dr Soo on the 2nd August?
As for attempts I have done x2 FSH/IUI and x1 IVF Short cycle with no sucess.
DH and I should be starting our next IVF cycle either this next cycle or the one after.
80% of Costs are covered by Medicare once you reach the Safety Net of $1054.
As for Eggs Splitting, it can happen...that has always been my dream..TWINS!!!!!

Hi Brooke,
I'm just starting my first cycle of ivf through Westmead Fertility Centre. I'm not seeing the same dr as you but I can answer you on costs... Total cost is $1450. If you've reached the medicare safety net, you'll get 80% back once the cycle is completed. Westmead Fertility Centre have a really informative website, not sure if you've checked it out.
-
hi thanks for the email, i have my first appoiuntment on sat. what happenened on your first app??? i will be on day 21 on my cycle when i go, someone told me they might hurry things up cause they need to do a ovulating blood test??? i think its on day 21!! spose i will find out then. im impatient! who are you seeing?? Brooke
-
Hi Brooke,
I'm with Dr Smith. He's been great, answering all of our questions and stepping us through treatment options. We've got "unexplained infertility" and we'd had all routine tests done before we got to our first appt - blood tests, tubes checked, sperm, etc... so our first appt was discussing medical history and our options. We decided on an option - which was also the one recommended by the dr, signed forms and were given instructions on what to do next...
The clinic nurses are fantastic. They're available 7 days to answer questions and help you through the treatment.
Don't forget to take $6 in coins for car parking at Westmead!
-
Thanks Kaydee!!
Thanks for your info, im excited but nervous at the same time. im glad they dont do further tests if youve had them before. i wanna get things started. good luck with everything and keep me posted!!
P S thanks for coin info too

Hi Guys
well i went to my consult on sat to dr Sam Soo his lovley!! My mind is boggled! Very Confusing. im Sure he said that because ive had all testing done before hand that i can pretty much start on my next cycle. His given me the pill pres, is it on the pill that on a pictular day u start the nasal spray???? (help) too much to take in. And i have to ring the hospital on thursday to tell what day my cycle is. Do they then post the drugs to u or do u have a interview with the nurses???Right??? Any help on these question would help my brain a lot! Thanks Brooke
-
we;;one hunny you are surely on your way woohoo for you
yep you will start the syrneral on a certin day the clinic will send you out a timetable to say what day to start and they will also send your drugs to you
ill be following you and take care ok dont stress:hug:
-
Thanks ,heaps for your help!!! will keep u posted!. glad theres friendly people out there to help!!! Brooke
-
Great news Brooke...your own your way...
All the best with your cycle, and keep us posted on how you get on.
-
Hi Brooke. Glad to hear your appt went well... information overload but that's what's its like at the start of it all! Clinic nurses are great and will answer any questions along the way...
Smithy, to answer your qu about blasty embryo transfers... Their info pack says that most transfers are done day 2-3. Going to blastocyst stage is only recommended for couples who have at least 6 fertilised embryos because only 50% of early embryos develop to blasty stage and some couples may not have any left to transfer if they wait the 5 days. They suggest it is "most suitable for couples with repeated ivf failures despite having large numbers of fertilised eggs each time". HTH... :)
-
thanks hun it does help;)we went blast before but am more than happy to do a day 2 or 3 as i believe they will make no matter what the stage if there ment to be there ment to be and is the price on the website right??
thanks hun
-
:dance:ok so here tis
im going to do my fet with sivf still in september BUT if this doesnt work i have just made a app to see dr smith at westmead fertility centre on the 2nd of october and am very excited we will be surely asking for 2 embies to be transfered as its just better for us i think so thanks for all the info and i hope we all get pg before xmas time wow how exciting
KAYDEE hows the pill popping going??
-
Smithy, so glad you have a plan of attack. Dr Smith is great... he's hard to get an appt with but really up to date with latest studies and research. Fingers crossed your FET works and you'll be able to cancel your appt! Cost of treatment on website is current. I have read about prices some of the other girls are paying through other clinics and I honestly don't know how people can afford to do cycle after cycle. We were really fortunate that we were referred to WFC (it's only 30 mins from home) ... the prices make ttc much more affordable for the average couple.
Pill popping is going so slowly!! I haven't been on the pill for a couple of years now so to be back on it is strange - I know it has it's purpose in the big scheme of the cycle but to be taking a pill to stop falling pregnant when that's all we really want is a bit twisted!! I have my appt next Tues with the nurses (12th Aug) to go through the steps in the whole cycle and to pick up meds. Looking forward to having the next phase in full swing... ;)
-
Hey girls I did my IVF thru Westmead and as you can see i now have a beautiful baby girl.We got 17 eggs and 12 fertilized we had 2 day 2 embryos put back(2 chances is better then one in my eyes but not in theres) but it is totally your own choice. The other 10 were grown to blastie stage and 4 made it and are now in the freezer. They like to do day 2 transfer because its better to get them back into there natural enviroment and snuggle in tight. I agree on the awesome cost cause its more affordable and that way people can achieve there goals at becoming a family sooner.
-
Hi girls,
I can't believe how cheap Westmead is. I am with Monash and I put out roughly 6K every stim cycle (that's including treatment and hospital admission).
Hi Brooke,
Hope things go well for you. Don't stress, if you are unsure, ring the nurse or the co-ordinator she/he should be able to answer your question. I remembered my first cycle I was asking questions over and over but the nurse very patiently repeat the answers she already told me

Hi girls,
Kahlan, I too have to pay around $6k upfront, but with the invoice I claim back around $4k on medicare, do you do the same? So it costs me around $2k each full stim cycle, though I include embryo glue as well which isn't claimable.
Is anyone else using embryo glue, have you had any success or do you think it is worth it?
Brooke, good luck with your first cycle. I hope it is a quick and successful one for you first time round. If not, don't get discouraged, as everyone says it is a numbers game. Be prepared that you might have to go through a number of cycles to get that BFP (big fat positive).
I did my first cycle starting syneral day 21, responded very well to stims (FSH250), but too well (24 follies), and had my EPU (egg pick up) cancelled due to OHSS (ovarian hyper stimulation syndrom), waited for AF, started the pill for a full cycle, went back on syneral, responded well again (FSH125 and E2 was 22,500) 21 follies, went to EPU but ET (embryo transfer) cancelled due to fear of OHSS. 15 eggs fertilised and all frozen. This was extremely dissapointing, you work yourself up so much, it is hard to not even get to the ET stage. I have since done 2 FET (frozen embryo transfers) all Day 3, both unsuccessful, and am onto my 3rd FET due on Friday. Each cycle my protocol has changed, sometimes I think it is a bit of a trial and error to see how your body responds to the meds. I agree with the other girls, ask plenty of questions, just follow your protocol details and do some of your own research. Best of luck
-
wow how things can change with in 24hrs...we thought we had a plan but no we changed our minds.
well here goes..yesterday we were going to do a fet with our frosty bubba..
BUT TODAY we have now decided we are going to do a full new cycle with dr samuel soo at westmad we have an app to see im at westmead on 16th august as to do our fet at sivf will cost us all up $2700and we only have the one embie and at westmead it will cost us $1450 for a hole cycle and we can have 2 embies put back.
so we have just got home from getting our referels done and were ready to go i have all test result and S-A here so im organized woohoo
so for us i just think this is the better way to go and then we can have our lil embie mooved over to mestmead:dance:
then im really hopeing to get the nurses app done by phone so we dont have to travell down there again as it takes us 6hrs just to get there lol
-
hi guys,
Smithy i seen Dr sam soo on sat, his lovely!!! for my first app. thats great news. I know what u meen about the traveling, i think i have to go back for a nurses appointment, gotta ring thursday!!! I think its to check from my laproscopy?? i was lucky my gyno done all previous checks etc before, so he was satisfied but we both had blood tests that day for HEP and HIV checks. so i have to ring thursday to the nurses tell them my cycle day im on. dont know if i have to go back for the app or they will post the meds to me.( will let you know). im due around the 10th so i start the pill day 2. i will learn the rest after that.

Hi girls,
You dont see the nurse at Westmead till you start your period after taking microgyon(pill) for a month before hand. It a weird pill you take it for 21days from memory then you stop it to make your period come weird:rolleyes:,it took 5 days for mine to come once i stopped the pill. When you see the nurse she will give you the spray and thats when you have to come up with the money.
For those that dont live close im pretty sure they arrange things abit different so you dont have to come in as much. I still have my roster i called it if anyone wanted a look to get a heads up.
Smithy, darl so happy for you and i think you have made a wonderful choice. I got goose bumps when i read your post just now. Im so excited for you and your family. Im  for:twin_neutral:. Two chances is better then one
-
:hug:aww EM(mumof6)you are the best hun!! thank you so much for all your info, you are making me feel a lot more relaxed about the hole thing.
thanks for the support to hun i hope i have made the rite choice but it feels rite so im going with it:rolleyes: for some reason i fell like its gonna work this time.
so any way i said to dh last night that id love to catch up with you on one of our trips dont no when but id love to meet ya soon.
so dh has just gone to redo the rejo on the car so this is one less thing to worry about as i want this ivf to be as calm as possible iykwim.
hope you all good today ;)

Hi girls,
Wow Smithy, that is a big change! Good luck.Gut feeling is always good. I changed doctor for my second stim cycle and was so glad because Dr Kovacs is wonderful (although my other doctor was not bad).
Regard the stim cycle, from my understanding there are two types of cycle:
1) down regulation. This is when they give you the pill. The purpose is to regulate your hormones, ensure you do not ovulate at bizzare times and that when the injections are given you have definitely ovulated and your hormones are at the right phase.
2) luteal cycle. This is when you don't use the pill but start the cycle on day 21. You will need a BT to ensure that you have ovulated. I think this type of cycle can only be used for women who have regular menstrual cycle.
My first cycle was type 1 and my second stim cycle was type 2. I had a better response in my second cycle. Not sure whether the fact I did not take the pill had any effect to the outcome.
Good luck everyone.
Kahlan

Smithy, new plan of attack sounds good. More cost effective and a fresh beginning! Hope it brings you a long awaited BFP. 6 hours is a long distance to travel but if it gets the results, it's all worth it.
Brooke, GL with your US on fri. Hope it gives you the all clear and you are ready to start.
-
Hi everyone
Had us today all clear! which is good(was hoping to find a little something in my uterus ) No luck of a bambino! Is in it funny its the only time in your life where u want your periods to come. LOL. waiting begins ox
