My little fella Zander was born on 25/09 at 8.58pm weighing in at 8pd1oz, 53cms long and after a totally natural birth. :dance:

Can't wait to see others in here soon too!!!! I know Belfie will be here soon with her Xander born on the same day - amazing!! I just fled hospital a bit earlier :)

My Xander was born 25th September at 1.35am.
Weight 7lb 70z, 51 cm long, head 35cm.

Gosh our babies have such great names! :clap::clap:

You are both so funny :lol:. If I was having a boy I would have been pressuring DH heavily for Xander as a name and that would have made 3 in the same group...priceless! All these Buffy fans, I was even joking to a gf of mine that I could name him Xander Harris but my DH wasn't going along with that part.

I finally got around to looking for the baby buddies thread. Thanks to Loralei being such a great baby and my carpal tunnel finally letting up a bit. :dance:

Loralei Grace was born 23/09/08 at 9.35pm weighing 3670gm (8lb 4oz), 35cm head and 50cm long.

SamiH, sounds like things have been tough, hope you're feeling better.

I've been having some bf'ing hell, but have an LC coming tomorrow and think we're making progress (to summarise: inverted nipples/nipple shield/expressing... arrgh! :wall:). Otherwise, he's just a little darling and sleeps & feeds like an angel. Very lucky and hoping that will last for a bit! We had a bath together today - was just gorgeous.

i'm just posting to keep our thread within cooee! We were on the second page :o

:ROFL: Belfie, we are a sad bunch aren't we with not posting very often. Hopefully that will all change when our babies are cooperating a little better for us to sneak off to post something. I hope your LC visit went well and that your little man Xander is now feeding like a trooper on your newly healed bb's :crossfingers:. Sounds painful and hard work from what you've said so good on you for continuing to try to bf. I haven't ventured down the bathing with Loralei yet, due to how I have to get out of the bath (long story cut short - bad knee).

Curl, thanks for the encouragement. The BFing sure is hard work! We're doing mostly ok. I still have some feeds where he just doesn't settle on the BB and gets antsy (two of those eralier today :( )so we go bottle, but on the whole, it's going pretty well.

Re the bath, s'one told me to make sure you have a handy DH or DP around. So DH hands you bubba and then you hand bubba out to DH once you're done. Then wriggle around & pull the plug, and stand up in a nice empty bath. If need be, you could wait until DH had dried & put down bubba then DH could assist you out. Don't know if that's doable with a dodgy knee, but i'll wish you luck anyways! I hope all your feedings and sleepings are going ok!

Zander was in our list for #3. Beautiful name.

Belfie - Great idea of making the list like Hollye. I went to post on our bellybuddy thread and its gone!:cry: So sad. As for the bathing with baby thing,I'll now have to wait until DH is back from Perth early December. He left yesterday for a work course and hopefully after that he will be posting off his ship and we'll have him home at nights (yippee!). So, I'm back in the single parent boat for the time being but at least the time should fly with the girls keeping me busy. If I'm not tending to Loralei or the other two I'm busy doing housework that hasn't been done properly over the last couple of months of my pregnancy. I washed the walls of the kitchen today (kids dirty hand prints), dusted high up spots in back room and Mr Muscled the bathrooms properly (couldn't abide the stink of it while pg).

Gobblygook - Welcome aboard the virtually vacant baby thread which is ours. Congratulations on your newest bundle. A water birth... way to go Gobblygook! Well done. Gobblygook, what kind of car do you drive with 4 kids? I ask this of all people with more than 3 kids as we have been tossing up whether to get a new car that fits more than 3 carseats and a pram.

See Belfie and SamiH Z/Xander is a fantastic name to be considered by so many! All these people with great taste.

Curl - I am SO impressed with everything you've been doing! I've been taking it very easy as my recovery (episiotomy and small tear) have seemed to have done a bit of a backslide (waiting on swab results to see if there's an infection).... so frustrating not to be able to do much... but oh well, I guess I can't complain re having to lie around a bit!

SamiH - I know you're flat out like a lizard drinking. I hope Zander & feeding are going well. Knowing you, I'm sure you're doing brilliantly :)

I am determined to call in to say I am alive !!!

Belfie - yeah, pretty hectic at the moment, and Zander has decided to shake his routine just to confuse me so I am just trying to get his rhythm back, which means 2 days stay at home days for me to get his feeding/sleeping pattern right. He decided over the weekend he wanted to snack all day and we were in and about so I did, which meant not enough hindmilk (fat) so sleep cycles were short and then lots of windy screaming and vicious circle! So, I am expressing the next two days and giving him bottle to make sure he gets a balance of fore/hind milk and have had a win today - he is just stirring and has been asleep again for 2 hours - fingers crossed for a good night - otherwise you will find me institutionalised somewhere .............. hope your Xander is behaving himself - bugger about the epi - my tear and scar feels good thank goodness ....

curl - hi hun, hope you and your family are doing well too. It sure is busy, I try so hard to check in on here, and then something happens just as I am about to post ... I am going to continue to try, all I can do at the moment!

gobbly - welcome - #4 WOW - what are the age differences with your lot and did you just have a boy or girl?

My hubby away this week so I am living in zombie land at the moment ...

here's a quick question (with the bonus of "bumping" us!). Anyone know if nasal sprays are safe to take with breastfeeding? I have a streaming head cold :wall: and the pharmacist assured me that the Sudafed 12 hr nasal spray was safe to take... but I'm sceptical! Anyone else know?

Belfie, poor you! I feel for you I really do. That dreaded flu I picked up at the hospital visits wrecked havoc over my entire family and I was the only one not able to take anything:wall:. I was told in the past that nasal sprays are okay to use but I'm always sceptical too. My understanding is that nasal sprays are safe while breastfeeding. If you're uncertain ask another chemist or google the company that makes sudafed for more info. Ummm, I think.... mothersafe might have some info too, worth a shot perhaps. :think:

My beautiful baby Sophie Charlotte was born by emergency C-Section at 11.pm on Friday the 26th of September. She is my first baby.
I am adjusting to five hours sleep a night, although she has slept 8 hours straight last saturday

Welcome Sophie! 8 hours sounds lovely. Did you get that sleep too?

Hi Everyone,
I finally managed to sit down and look at Belly belly for the first time since Madeline was born. I was in the pregnancy thread 15th-30th Sept so I had been keeping track of a few of you. Belfie so far is the only one i know, however i think that most of the other lovely ladies went early so they are in the thread before this one. Anyway it will be great to get to know you all and your babies.
Well things are going better for me now, the first 4 wks were hard. I had a pretty hard labour (30hours, failed vaccum and an emergency c-section), so recovery has been long and hard. I have also had quiet alot of trouble feeding (cracked nipples, engorgement, slight mastitis, thrush which i still have and low milk supply). I'm pretty happy though as i have managed to feed only breastmilk and haven't had to supplement with formula.
Madeline is gorgeous and is growing so fast, now weiging about 9pound. She was born 7pound 4oz 53cm and 33cm head cir.
So about feeding, is anybody else having trouble (sorry i haven't read through the forum to see). I have been seeing a lactation consultant at the hospital once a week which has been great. I am trying to treat thrush but the medication that is recommeded is $285 for 28 tablets. RIDICULOUS!!! So i have to persist with creams and fewer tablets and see if that works. I would love to hear from anyone who has had this problem.
Anyway i will try an post as often as possible. I don't have access to computer very often.

Oopsadaisy - hi there -hope your feeding has improved! We all have our battles with it whether it be first time or third time (me!) - hard where we live in a world that is so exacting to then just hand over to trust your body to make and give what baby needs - just hard cos you can't see how much they actually take in!

gobbly - my fella also slept 8 hours the other night - but of course I woke and checked on him a few times - should of just stayed in bed cos of course he was fine! He regularly feeds around 7 - 8ish now and bed, and then next feed somewhere between 2 - 4am. So not too bad, finally getting a few hours of sleep :)

SophieW - welcome to BB - you will find loads of info on here and some really nice people too ;)

I am just about to do a dash to the shops ...

I am getting used to the interrupted sleep. But it really helps if I feed Sophie in the dark, when I was turning on the bedside light, she would take ages to go back to sleep, but thats what happens when you have a 100 watt globe.
Is there any way to cut their nails, Sophie's are growing very long

hi, i finally have some time to leave write in the forum... been soooo busy with the new baby

i had a little girl, Shayla, born on the 18 of sept. she was about 8 pound 11 ounces (3964 grams). 22 hour labour but due to complications ended up having an emergency c/s.

she was perfectly healthy, putting on weight beautifully. tonight i have finally put her in her big cot for the first time, in her own room, and she is sleeping well!

im not breastfeeding, my milk never came in properly. she has been completely formula fed from day 10. i was on medication to try increase my milk supply, but it never worked for me.

Sophie i find that waiting till the baby is asleep then cutting nails is fine. she doesnt move and i find it quite easy, i have had to cut shayla's nails twice already.

i hope to be on more often now.
hope everyone is doing well and not stressed out too much!

Sorry to jump in, I was orginally in this birth group but went early. I just wanted to pop in say hi to Ang & see how she was going & of course hi to everyone else.

Ang, Sorry to hear that you had a difficult labour, at least you've recovered now.
I was in a very similar situation to what you've discribed as I couldn't breast feed Madeleine so was seeing the lactation consulants at the hospital but I could only EBM all feeds, they're great aren't they. I had thrush & just took the nilstat capsules (only cost $22) two doses of that seemed to clear it up for my along with the daktarin gel, unfortunately it's a little harder to clear for bub. I also had a terrible milk supply so went on the molitium tablets, they worked a treat, I had 2 scripts & have now given up as my supply wont stay good unless on the tablets & I don't quite feel so great on them, so we are about to revert to formula.

Anyway, hope that's of some help.

Candy Jay: Thankyou for posting, was nice to hear from you. Yes staff a hospital have been great especially lactation consultatants, i wouldn't be feeding Madeline still if it wasn't for them. I have also been taking the molitium tablets for 11 days now, they seem to be helping. I was expressing in between feeds so that i could top her up after each feed but now i don't have to do that, and because she sleeps 7-8hrs every night i express in the middle (around 2-4am) and if she needs a top up during the day i can give her the expressed milk. I still haven't gotten on top of the thrush despite using two lots of diflucin 1, but they have slightly improved. Do you need a script for the nilstat tabs? Lac consult recommened nilstatin tabs (are they the same), but said i would need a script from the dr. When i went to get a scrpit he told be not to bother trying them because they don't work. I would like to try them just to see if they work.

Hi Tazzy, gobbly, curl and SophieW - looking forward to getting to know you girls and chatting about our beautiful bubs.

SamiH - During preg we are told how natural it is to breastfeed and that we should do it for 6mths, but what they don't mention is how alien like it is and how hard it really is. To me it certainly hasn't come naturally but with the help of the LC it has been great. Generally i feel if your really keen and you can get help continously and support from your partner then theres a good chance that it will work. Yes its very hard to know how much they are getting unless you express and then bottle feed.

Yep these tablets are the same thing you were recommended. I was also told by my doctor they didn't work, but I said I'll try it anyway (he recommended that $200+ drug). I was suffering from pain & fever associated with thrush, I thought I was going to colapse at any minute. My first dose was great, after a few times of taking them, I felt great, I finished the script & was good for a few weeks then I got it back again & started another dose, again it worked. If you go and get a script, ask them for a few repeats on that script because there might be re-infection from feeding later & it will save you having to go back and get another script. Hope it works for you.

Been very fortunate with feeding this time. No problems cept now he has started the biting. Yep looks like my lil boy is teething.

Candy Jay: Thanks :clap: for your advise, i had been feeling fever like and aching body too but i thought it was the begining of Mastitis. I knew that thrush caused shooting pain in the boobs but not anywhere else in the body.

Gobbly: Oh no to teeth OUCH!! Very young to be teething??

Thought i might post as no body has for a while. This thread doesn't seem to be bopping along very well.
Anyway Madeline had her 8wk injections today. I had been putting it off as i know how much it hurts and didn't want to put her through it. But I know how important they are and got up the courage to take her. She went well, a little cry (scream) but stopped quiet quickly. I had a few tears in my eyes whilst the nurse was doing it.
Maddy is doing well, smiling heaps and chatting a little now too. She is so much fun at the moment and i really enjoy her company. It has been hard for me to enjoy her, due to my horrible birth and then for the first 4 wks after wards from breastfeeding, colic and severe pain and tiredness (due to c-section). I'm still suffering from thrush but seeing a LC consult at the Royal Womens Hospital now so hoping they can help me. But feeding is going so much better and she is so much more settled after
feeds too. :dance:
I am having trouble figuring out what to buy her for christmas (anyone got some ideas:doh:). We are going to get her a jolly jumper but apart from that at her age apart from clothes and toys (which i know my families will get her lots of) there isn't much else. I am so excited about spending christmas with her, such a special moment for our new little family. I love christmas anyway but this makes it so much more special.
Gee i'm just thinking now how fast she is growing. It only felt like yesterday that i fell pregnant and not long after had her. Wow time flies. Speaking of that i better go and do some housework before she wakes up.

I wasnt around in the pregnancy thread as I was busy moving back from the UK to Brisbane. I flew in at 32wks pregnant so as you can imagine getting settled and ready for giving birth with a toddler in tow took priority over the internet!

Well Xavier was born on due date 28th Sept at 02:10 in the morning. I had a very quick labour 2hrs and 10 mins. Only just made it to hospital as the first hour I was not in any pain. I delivered him in 10 mins with just gas and air to push him out.

I had no stitches and recovered very quickly.

He weighed 3.6kg at birth and was 320g over birth weight by 10days.

He has just has his 2mth vaccinations and is sleeping hence getting a chance to type and his sister Erykah who is now 3.5yrs old is in daycare (she was born here in victoria)

He weighs 5.9kgs today and although he has reflux it has been controlled from him being 4wks old with Zantac. He is a very sicky baby though it is getting better (fingers crossed) when he is sick it is a whole chuck and change clothes for me and him! Took time to get my head around that as my daughter wasnt a sicky baby.

He sleeps well at night though I am still up twice in the night to feed him. I get about 4hrs sleep out of him at the longest stretch but I think my body is used to it this time round as I do not feel anywhere near as tired.

I have a demi pair for 3 months to help with my DD and the housework but I am finding this a hindrance rather than a help so will not be continuing with this after the 3 months are up. Long story.

I am struggling to know what to dress him in here in Brisbane as I am so hot not being used to the humid heat and I find I am going out and people have their babies all wrapped up and I have him in a little singlet and his nappy. I have started to put him into a full sleepsuit at night as I think he is waking due to being cold. I have 2 gro bags on their way from the UK (they are much cheaper over there) so I hope this helps they are 0.5tog ones which will help with him kicking off his covers.

Well I will shut up now as I have gone from sitting in the background to my life history in one go.

Hi guys, It's been ages since I've posted anywhere let alone here...I'm time poor, that's my excuse.

Gobblygook - what kind of ppl mover were you considering? I was looking at Kia Carnival but am open to suggestions but it would need to fit a pram too. All those car seats take up so much room too so width is an issue with many cars. I hope you are still getting plenty of rest with bub because I know you can't catch up properly with other siblings in the house.

SophieW - welcome aboard bellybelly and congrats on the safe arrival of your baby Sophie. With the light in the nursery issue, I have tall lamps in the girls rooms with a dimmer on them which I've found invaluable and they double as nightlights for when they are older. Long nails... I use a baby emery board instead of scissors. Babies tend to hate this too and will wriggle and cry. I just don't like using scissors or clippers on thei r little fingers so the emerys work well for me. But I agree with tazzy, when they're sleeping is always the easiest time.

tazzy - I hope Shayla is still doing really well.

oopsadaisy - your birthing experience sounds horrific! I also commend you on your breastfeeding efforts. Breastfeeding luckily has come fairly easy to me. First time around my milk was delayed but I perservered and expressed between feeds and then it was smooth sailing after a month. With DD2, she was a natural and I was too. DD3 its the same. Its nice to hear how in awe and love you with Madeline you are after such a rough start. Loralei screamed for her needles and then settled beautifully within a few minutes. I didn't give her panadol but I had it handy just in case. As far as christmas presents for fairly new babies... anything recommended for 6 months and upwards are great. I know they're not 6 months yet but not far from it either. Just a tip. Only get toys that are noisy if they have volume control and off switch, most fisher price toys are fantastic. Gloworms are good too and they are from birth. Baby tad by leapfrog is good too.

candyjay - welcome anytime. It doesn't matter that you didn't birth at this time many of us have crashed our due threads instead of birth ones. Plus, our thread seems to be in desperate need of more people.

Jo - sounds like you've had quite a few months! Move overseas, quick birth, NO STITCHES!!!(if only that were me) you had my dream birth! But contending with reflux sounds awful for both you and Xavier. As for Brisbane heat, do you have airconditioning in your home? If so, put it on dehumidify and you will find your home much more comfortable. Slight changes in humidity make a huge difference to your comfort levels and moving o/s is a really big leap. I lived in Brisbane for 2 years and our house was HOT, no insulation in roof, no aircon, I melted for the first six months until I acclimatized. We luckily had fans in the ceiling.

Hi Sami and Belfie I hope your X and Z are doing really well and letting you both rest lots. Loralei has three nights in a row gone down at about 9.30pm and woken between 6am and 6.30am... I am no longer in sleep deprived ogre mode! :dance:

Jo: Hi and welcome to our thread.:hello: It seems like you've have a pretty busy couple of months. Moving from the UK to Aus is one big move especially so far advanced in your pregnancy. I moved house whilst i was preg and i found that difficult but it was only a few suburbs away, not a few countries :doh:
Gee your labour sounded pretty intense, isn't it thought that when a birth happens so quickly that it can stress the body out? I would have liked a labour like yours, but i am just so happy that Maddy is safe and well.
I don't live near Brisbane so i can't help you out on the weather situation but because xavier was born in Aus he wouldn't know how cold it is in the UK so you would suspect that he would feel it to be colder here than what you do. Gee does that make sense?
Thankyou for your advice on the Christmas presents i will look into a few of those ideas. Can you tell me what a gloworm is. I'm guessing its a worm that glows in the dark, like a comfort toy, so that bubs doesn't get scared in the night?????

Curl: Great to hear from you again. We need more people in this thread. Wow to Loralei sleeping through the night. I am also very lucky as Maddy generally sleeps 7-8hrs sometimes 9 and has been since she was around 4wks. I still have to get up once in the night and express though (due to all my feeding probs and low milk supply, plus my boobs get too sore). Maddy has recovered well from her injections. I haven't taken the bandaids off yet as i know that will incur pain too:boohoo:. Sometimes i wish that the nurses wouldn't put them on and just apply pressure for a bit instead. I had my hep B and Cervical Cancer vacc a few weeks ago and left the bandaids on for days. Especially hard to take them off when the area is still tender from the injections.

I will post more later as I am heading to DFO to get an outfit for Sat night I am out with a group of expats mums for a xmas/bday drink. It is my actual bday so I will be having a soft drink to celebrate!! BF so cant have a drink. I am looking forward to it.

I will post later to let you know how I get on with the outfit. I have lost some weight since giving birth and I have a long way to go to get into my pre pregnancy clothes.

Xavier did well after his vaccinations and again I havent removed his plasters either.

hey! just fed my little girl, she's happily playing on her activity mat... fonally have a moment to write something.

she's started teething, i thought it was a little early too, but i wont be seeing teeth for a while yet. she just want to dribble heaps and chew on everything in site.

she coped really really well with her 2 month immunisations, only cried a tiny bit and didn't have any reactions (no lumps, redness or anything.)

she sometimes sleeps 6-7 hours of a night, but last night only did 3 and 1/2 hourly... do daddy is very tired, he's the night feeder because she's bottlefed and i dont always have to be the feeder.

Happy Xmas everyone. I cant believe how quiet this thread is. How is everyone doing?

Xavier is now in a cot day and night time though still in my room. I had moved my first out by 5wks as she was so noisy in her sleep and I didnt sleep. It is great to have him near by.

He is now able to settle himself which makes my life so much easier. It took some doing and a little controlled crying (not something I really agree with but it worked) I dont leave him while he cries but now 90% of the time I just put him down and he falls to sleep. Also using a 0.5tog grobag and that seems to help.

We are in a routine of sorts. We do the feed play sleep routine and we both seem happy with that. He tends to do a catnap of 40mins and at least a 3hr sleep in the day. He is still waking at least twice a night but goes back down after a 10min feed.

Anyway best get on as my DD is needing attention while DS sleeps.
