Problem with tension

I got a sewing machine for Christmas so don't know much really but was practising this morning and all was going well doing zig zag when the something seemed to go wrong with the tension. The bottom thread is coming through the top, I've played with the tension and nothing seems to change. The tension problem happens on straight stitch as well but with zig zag it is more noticable. I've rethreaded the machine and nothing seems to fix it - what else could the problem be.

Problem fixed - pulled bobben compartment apartment and put back together which fixed the problem.
