I've found the DMC website to be quite good - and has patterns for embroidery rather than just cross stitch.

Might be harder to find using google, but there's also a site called free patterns that, funnily enough, has lots of free patterns - again not just for cross stitch but also has knitting, crochet, beading - but I haven't really looked into those sections.
