Ooop,s already mucked up the kit

So I bought a cross-stitch kit and thought I would start it off. So I began by ironing the fabric and it got a mark on it from the iron. It's not a burn, but I should have cleaned the iron plate before using it. Doh.

Is it worth washing/drying/ironing the fabric for a very first project, or should I just buy replacement fabric? Would it lose anything that makes it easy?

Will the mark be covered by stitches? Or end up behind a frame (if you were to frame it)? If so, I'd just use as is.

I don't bother washing or ironing fabric before starting a project as I find it gets pretty grubby while I'm working on it anyway. I just handwash in cold water when I'm done.

    :yeahthat:

If you do wash it, sew over the edges. Aida especially frays something shocking, or use masking tape to stick over the edges. It is also so much easier to use a ring or frame when you sew.
