Thanks BW! The mag is called Cross Stitch Gifts. It didn't have a date on it so I don't know how often it comes out - I just saw it at my newsagent and grabbed it because it has charts for babies, kids, weddings/anniversaries, easter, mothers/fathers day, milestone birthdays and other special days etc. They are mostly just little motifs but there are some larger ones that you would put on scrolls or cake wrap-arounds and there are several alphabets too. Plus they have a full conversion chart at the back for MDC and Anchor colours.

Is it an Australian one? I think I have it - just can't remember where I've put it at the moment! As far as I know it's a one-off thing, which is a shame. It would be so nice to have a decent Australian cross-stitch magazine. *sigh* I live in hope...

yeah I think it is a one off. At the top it has Complete step by step Aussie guide. It's frustrating that they are all UK based mags and they are really hard to find - most of the mags are for quilting or scrapbooking.

Yep, that's the one I've got. I wish I could find it - It would be kind of nice to have a few of us doing the advent calendar at the same time as a kind of stitch-along thing.

I like the UK mags - although I'm hating this new trend of only whole cross stitches but they'll take the sodding back stitch where ever they please! I'd prefer a few quarter stitches and clearly outlined shapes - I find the other way just looks untidy, and I normally work on evenweave fabric instead of aida so fractional stitches don't bother me.

As for the US mags - completely barf-worthy is all I can say!

I guess it's our fault for not keeping up with the trends - everyone's supposed to be scrapbooking now!

BW we should do that - maybe an Easter one seeing as how we're a bit to close to Christmas now. I've never seen US mags but it does seem to be more of a British thing to do. The wedding sampler had a lot of half stitches - all the little flowers and hearts and the items in the top and bottom borders all had them. The word Wedding was full stitches and the backstitching went around each stitch, but it didn't look blocky kwim? It looked quite effective done like that. The backstitching was all in silver metallic thread which is a total PITA to work with though.

Maz, it wont let me see your's hun.

Squidipa, I'd love to see a pic when it's done

Cool. I'll keep me eyes open for a suitable pattern. I thought the advent calendar would be nice as it breaks down into individual sections that we could do one at a time... hadn't even thought of how close to Christmas we are - I'm in denial!

Squidipa, I love working in bold, bright colours like that.

Regarding Australian Cross stitch magazines. There is one good one but it's hard to find: Jill Oxton's Cross Stich. I have issue number 38. It was published in 1999. I'd love more of her magazines... they are good quality with cover paper that is firmer than your average magazine... like Vogue IYKWIM. She does lots of native animal designs but also more traditional ones. The magazine I have features a lady playing a violin on the cover and a frog on the back cover... there are some gorgeous floral motifs inside and a very sweet Monday's Child pattern and lots of others. If you Google Jill Oxton you'll find something no doubt.

bath, I just googled her and you get a link to her shop where you can order back issues or subscribe. Looks like she's also into beading too.

We should definitely do something for next Christmas seeing as how there are a few of us interested. I have those little stocking decorations that I got for last year but never got to them. I should really try to get them done for this year.

Wow! I really love the colours you've used - very rich and lush.
these colors are actually a top that was brand new (second hand bought in a lot in ebay) that so was not me but the colors were nice, a satin size 22 (second hand bought in a lot in ebay or size 16-18 clothes to get me through the pregnancy) top thats NEVER EVER gonna fit no matter how preggers i am but lovely, A pair of pants i was donating as they showed off the extra chub near my woohoo but very nice pants all the same. Plus a purple jacket and pants that i got on eBay (same ebay lot) that so was not my style that i have embroidered pink pictures on.

So basically its all scraps of old clothing, I ran out of more fabric like i need more purple might look in a op shop or hunt through my draws or the kids lol. Recycling stuff as i dont have cash for material so we recycle what we can. and im happy with the color theme thought it may look a bit odd but its starting to come together really niceley im impressed its my first crazy patchwork and i gotta tell ya i made the antique lace one in the time i made the purple one so far lol and the purple on is NOT at all finished.

Edit i forgot to say THANKS Trillian oops
