Have not read the thread...but just started the book and um it's terrible! I don't really care what happens and don't want to. Keep reading! Does it get better? I knew it wouldn't be fantastic as its a fan fiction but thought it would be ok :-/
It doesn't get better Boomba, no. Just to put it bluntly.
But I succumbed and started the second one. And then got told by a colleague that it doesn't really resolve half of the issues raised. Great!
Haha ok well might use outfor toilet paper if I run out then lol
i asked a friend if the storyline got better in the 2nd and 3rd, and was told it does! oh well, will read them anyway lol
Op. it was originally called masters of the universe and th characters where belly and Edward...fan fiction is where they take the characters and make a new story kinda based loosely on the original lol
I was quite bored with it by Chapter 16 of Book 1 Boomba. I however could not put down Book 2, and can't wait to start Book 3 going on Book 2's ending.
Book 2 & 3 have more of a storyline but it's still annoying
Oh well I have some sort of story line to look forward to I hope!!!
Really Boomba? Righto then - cant imagine Bella and Edward carrying on like that... I guess the key word is "loosely"...
Got book 2 in my kobo, wasn't going to but couldn't help it. :)
Sent from my iPhone, more than likely while I should be doing something else!
ROFL OP. You took the words right out of my mouth!
The writing is seriously lame.
I decided I had to read it to see what all the fuss was about. i'm not that far into it but its not my thing. Actually, its disturbing.
Finished book 2 @ 2:30am, ended up downloading book 3... Will prob read that tomorrow.
Writing doesn't particularly get better but I still couldn't put it down.
I'm over her 'inner goddess' & the repetitive sex scenes, but it's an easy read & the storyline is ok.

Hehe thought you'd like that Heaven.
ZF, that's a serious effort - 2.30am?? Gee!
Hehe OP, got it about 8:30, read for a bit, stopped then came to bed about 10:30ish and started again ;)

Have started reading it, up to about chapter 9 or 10. I have read much better books, and now that I've read a few
Blogs that poke fun at it, I can't help cringing at some places! (like..does she really need to say crap, and double crap, and all the other craps) ALL the time?!
I am going to finish the series, just so I can say I've done it and know what happens. Curiosity's sake I suppose!
It has piqued my interest about what good erotica is like (I have never read Twilight and have no desire to, so that has nothing to do with wanting to read 50 shades in the first place), so I've ordered a book online while I was placing an order for some books for DD..I know probably slightly wrong, but meh..lol). Hopefully it will be a better read than this!
I skipped to chapter 17 I think to read a sex scene and nearly threw up :-( it really is disturbing :-/
Does anyone actually enjoy these sex scenes? Shouldn't things be left to the imagination a little?
The sex scenes do nothing for me Boomba.
Boomba, after reading this series kobo sent me some recommendations based on the fact that I'd read these, I figured what the hell and downloaded one, OMG 50 shades has nothing on this one, it was foul
Nope..I'm not into the hardcore stuff yet, but it is more horrifying than enjoyable..
I fail to see how it can be called mummy porn, surely the average population of mothers are not into that?!
I'm not minding it. It's terrible writing, the sex scenes I mainly skim now (halfway through the 3rd) and Ana shirts me to tears, but I like Christian's character. The psychology, as Rogue has mentioned to me before I started reading, is quite spot on and engaging. I find it relatable in a lot of aspects of DH and my problems we've worked through, the control etc. It's woeful writing, and the sex, I'm over it, I can't think off anything worse than doing it 5 times a day lol!! But I am finding the storyline engaging, in an easy, don't have to think about much kind of way.
I love it! I couldnt put the 2nd one down but as I got closer to the end I was forcing myself to because I didnt want to finish it.
The writing isnt fantastic and seriously how many times do you have to use the word equilibrium?? but then again it wasnt the writing that made me start reading them in the first place
The sex scenes - very repetitive and boring and she is very much a taker isnt she? I have to be honest and say that although the spanking is really not my thing I did feel my "loins warming" when she was blindfolded and couldnt hear him either. All about the touch and sensations
But apart from that I think "oh god not again" when they start up, and shes good to go every time??? I mean I like a bit of fantasy but only if I think it could be a reality and thats not!
Eager to get the third book though to see how they wrap it up and then maybe I can start folding my ever growing and neglected washing pile that is MY reality
While i am not particularly turned on by the sex scenes like Feijoa Mum there are certain elements that shall we say 'spike my interest' not that any of it is stuff i would do but there is an intrigue to it.
I find myself skipping quite a few of the sex scenes now and just following the main 'storyline' as likie most people they are quite repetetive and lets be honest not many people i know fit all that in then go about doing it again & again say 5 times a day
I read the first & second books in an afternoon each, i loaded the 3rd book onto the Kobo last night but am getting on my my real life and trying to leave reading it to dribs & drabs when i don't have other things to do... BORING right.... i'd give anything to just sit down, finish the last book in 1 day and know how it all turned out.
That said despite the crappy writing i DID download the first book so i had the complete set on the Kobo even though i read the borrowed copy from SIL, i had to have the set and will be saving it to the hard drive aswell as my Kobo library for future referece when i'm bored and want something 'easy' to re-read.
Funny how some of you are skipping the sex scenes, I skipped the glider scene  No need to read it, too Thomas Crown Affair.
I find some of the sex concepts interesting, which I wont go into as this is not AO ;)
i def think some things should be left to the imagination. for eg...do we really need to know she has her period, and that he pulls the little blue string.... ewww. i was like what the??? really??
and sometimes i actually feel sorry for Ana, and think "just say you're tired!!!". surely that kind of animal urge cannot happen in real life all day, everyday!?
anyway,just started the second book...lol
I'm with you Astrid. Again, won't go into the sexy stuff, but the kink isn't something I'm adverse to ;)
lmao mummajj. I was thinking the same thing with the period/tampon thing, and when he put it in the toilet I was thinking "you're not supposed to flush them"
There is a scene at the the end of the third book that makes me cringe a little. Won't go into it as some of you haven't read the book yet and it will give the story away, but it involves a whip over a stomach with a third person involved.
Really? I didnt think it was that bad tbh, bit of "whatever floats your boat" kind of thing itms. We certainly never eased up with our shenanigans at any stage lol.
Despite the writing, I really enjoyed the series. I didnt like Grey much in the first book, but he grew on me once Ana grew a pair and stood up for herself. The sex scenes didnt really bother me, it felt like I was just reading about people "making love", so poor DP didnt get any extra lucky because most of it was boring
Wasn't so much the act that bothered me, but the way they talked about it afterwards that got to me.
This is only the second book in my entire life that I didn't finish and I read a lot. I couldn't stand it. Maybe it's my inner feminist (all the "I'll take all his c'rap because maybe, just maybe, I can fix him *rolls eyes*), maybe it was the shocking writing (crap, double crap, sextuple crap), maybe it was the scene at the end where he pretty much admitted that he got off on hurting her (I skipped to the last chapters to see if it got better....it didn't). I am not a prude but violence of any kind is just wrong and it surprised me how disturbed I was by that one scene. Anyway, I can kinda understand why it's popular but I won't be finishing it.
i actually find it interesting the popularity of it amongst females (mainly due to explicit nature) considering the controlling, domineering, aspects. i didnt think that many women would find it a turn on.
This is pretty good article about the BDSM in the book.
http://www.watoday.com.au/opinion/fi...709-21rm3.html
The thing is i don't think it's JUST men that partake in these acts, yes in this book it is about a man with these issues but there are dominant women out there too.
Personally i don't mind the explicit writing, but i also don't mind some of DP's naughty DVD's or books, se seem to forget that sexuality is not just a male thing, lots of women are also into these things.
Again it's not for me and i wouldn't be doing these things in my bedroom but i don't think it's as big a deal to read it as some people think.
That said i do understand why it's not for everyone.
LC that's another thing that annoyed me a little (the article just reminded me) was the simultaneous orgasms.always.without fail. Grrr.
