I've heard that. I have that one on the shelf too...I couldn't really get into it! Another one to try again.
The first third of the book is HARD WORK but the ending blew. me. away. Soooo good.

I got 49... and started but not finished another 13 of them for one reason or another. Some of them I really want to read.... others I think I would prefer to stick bamboo shoots under my fingernails (Ulysses anyone? James Joyce totally does my head in). The Bible I have read the New Testament but not the Old one... or the other way around, I can't remember I was only 12 at the time. There was a lot of begetting anyway
I would really like to read To Kill a Mockingbird, A Fine Balance, Shadow of the Wind and a Suitable Boy.... so they might go on the list for this year.

I think I got about 34. Are they all supposed to be classics? What's the deal?

There were a few on there (can't remember which ones tho) that I wouldn't read with a gun to my head.

That's right - I'm sure there was another list that went around earlier and it had quite a few books that were more modern bestseller types that I had no interest in EVER reading.

I think the list came from a survey by the BBC asking people their favourite books. Although, I did a quick google and there do seem to be some variations that have crept in.

Didn't see this thread, but I did see the list on FB. I got The Kite Runner to read (amongst others...) while I was on holidays and thanks to the non-Sunshine Coast have finished it. Loved it. I might get a couple on this list too. Life of Pi I don't think I've read.

I've read 44 if I'm remembering correctly. I might find I've read a few more, but haven't included them because I can't remember the story lines from the title. I don't have the best memory for titles. It probably should be more considering I studied literature, but some of those newer ones I have no interest in at all. And I think there are a few significant Australian authors who are not represented on this list.

I am getting new glasses next week. So will be back into reading then. Still have 2 chapters of Sherlock Holmes to get through.

Finally finished off Sherlock Holmes, so when the glasses arrive next week I will move onto The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

So up to 15 read now, from my measley 11 that I started with LOL.

Jen, I have Life Of Pi - I can bring it Friday if you like? No rush for it back.... I hated it
Was the only person in my book group that didn't love it, lol.

I'm just finishing off a book I'd already started (Lucky Man, Michael J Fox) and I'm going to pick one from the list

Oh yay! It was my news years resolution to not read any more light reading chick lit books, so was going to start with some on this list that i haven't read! I scored 31, and had another 16 that i had started but not finished!

Anyone interested in a book swap? I can have a look and see which titles i still have and would recommend reading?
