    Twilight - please explain???

Somehow I think I missed the boat on Twilight because everyone seems to be RAVING about it and I have absolutely NFI what they are talking about!!!

So what are the books about?

    Are they a must read?

Tinkerbell is right, they are about teen vamps - a movie has just come out based on the book.
It was an alright read, I have read better about vampires but thats just my opinion

I hadn't even heard about them until the movie, so they can't be that much of a MUST read.

These books are absolutely ALL I've heard about for the last... well as long as I can remember!!! (All of this year, anyway!)

Being a piano teacher to stacks of teenage girls - its all I've heard about every half hour of every week day since they got released

I bought myself the first one (Twilight) months ago - figured I needed to see what all the fuss was about , plus its always good to have something to talk about with the kids I'm teaching.

I'm in 3 monthly book groups though, so average a book a week to keep up with them - the Twlight book has sat on my book shelf now for waaay too long!

Picked it up last weekend & am nearly done - will definately be over the next day or 2.

I can understand the hype - its a little exciting for me as a 31yr old, so I can understand the obsession for girls half my age

Apparently the last one is not as good as the other 3 - and according to all of my students, the movie is a tragedy (aren't movies based on books always though?!) - they're all so disappointed in the film.

I have to admit, when I was a teen, the rave books were the Virginia Andrews ones (Flowers In The Attic, Heaven, etc) - and they were obsessive, incestual & addictive .... I think the Twilight series & the Harry Potter books are nicer for teens than what I was reading at their age

If you're a reader, Amy, they're worth the read... its an easy read, and its nice to be lost in the easy world of a teenager again (which is how I feel when I'm reading it!)

I'm a big reader - which is why I don't get how I missed this!!

Vampires isn't usually my thing - I was never into Buffy or Angel etc. I might give it a go - I absolutely loved the fantasy of the Harry Potter books when they came out so I may enjoy these. I just feel so out of the loop!

I've started it, had it for a few months just haven't had the time. Everyone I know is reading them or read them, that and the wicked books (and all the other adult fairy tales). Its a very easy read thats for sure. But it does get you hooked.

I saw on reddit that you could easily replace the chick with a piece of cake (as he's falling in love with his food, LOL) and it was pretty funny

ETA: It is more like HP in the writing style than in the Anne Rice novels, which is making it difficult for me to read as I'm finding it too easy iykwim. A few stating the obvious things have given me the irrits but I have to remember its written for teens just as HP was.

    omg Amy read it!! lol.
    I am addicted.
I'm not really into fantasy really (except Harry Potter) and when I heard about it I was like, 'a book about vampires, no thanks!'. But I am hooked.
Some bits are a bit corny but I love it. I agree, the movie was pretty crappy tho, don't see it before you read the book!!
I don't know how you missed it either, all 4 books have been in the top 10 for ages!!

I have read all of the series and I really like them. I couldn't put them down. I really enjoyed the movie too. I thought it was a good adaptation. I usually don't like movies of books I have read

Sooo, the big question? Do you fancy Edward or Jacob?
i read an interview with the author where she said the Jacob fanciers were rarer than the Edward fanciers and TBH I just don't get that. What is there not to like about Jacob? He's waaay hotter than Edward lol.

I thought it was awful... however I really am hanging out for the next book now that I don't have it.
I'm a sucker for love stories but this really didn't do it for me. I didn't find her to be a particularly talented writer and as much as it had potential it justr didnt achieve in my books.
Maybe the sequels will prove to be more satisfying.

The movie was so~so as well but I expected that I guess.
