I have been reading quite a few of the "classics" on my iPhone using eReader. Its great - means I always have a book with me AND I can read at night and DH doesn't whinge! Because these books are so old I can get them for free from Project Gutenburg. I am reading Elizabeth Gaskells "North and South" atm and have just finished "Wives and Daughters". I also have all of Jane Austen and Charlotte and Emily Bronte lined up! (tho I have read most already JA's Persuasion is my fave)

I would really like to read the works of Charles ****ens - they are next on my download list!

(I'd love some more "classics" ideas as well)

I say read Lord of the Rings AND watch the movies. The books are hard going at times with all the weird names etc but I really enjoyed them.

I think Twelve Angry Men is a play, but I could be wrong.

I didn't know that was a book. I remember watching that movie in school. I might have to go searching.

Yes, it is a play but I saw it at the bookstore and it had been converted into a novel. You can also get it in the play version as well.

The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. I just can't seem to make my way through the Hobbit, and my obsessiveness regarding books won't let me read LOTR until I've finished the Hobbit.

Loved 12 angry men the movie, didn't know it was a book. Haven't read to Kill a Mocking Bird maybe I should add that to my list?

I think somewhere on line you can do a free read and study of the 5 love languages, prob for love dare as well, you might just have to do some serious google work. Won't be as good as the real thing but still might be something. I reckon every marriage could beneift from the love dare. DH and I are thinking of setting aside 40days from our anniversary next year to do it.

I have read most of these books mentioned here... but over 10 years ago... some as long as 20+ years ago! I agree with Rory that you sometimes need to read something again when you are older and have a broader perspective (therefore appreciation) of the language and themes. I read the complete Lord of The Rings trilogy when I was 15 for example... I need to read it again... same with Wuthering Heights (read when i was about 20).

One book that springs to mind is the Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie. I started it back in 1990 when i was 20. I only read the first few chapters... i vaguely recall the start being quite funny.... nothing like I was expecting... then it all got a bit too hard.... I didn't know anything about the Middle East back then... need to finish reading it now after years of listening to the BBC's in depth discussions on Middle Eastern issues for the past 6 years LOL

I also need to re-read To Kill A Mockingbird. I studied that when i was 15 in high-school... no way known would i read it with the same level of understanding 25 years later...

To Kill a Mockingbird was on our VCE reading list as well but we ended up reading The Crucible instead. I LOVED The Crucible! I should really read it again as an adult.

I'll be in that too! I haven't read either. I read the Crucible at school too and I loved it.

I ought Moby **** a few years ago to read which I haven't gotten around to yet...

One of the proudest moments (ok, slight exageration!) was when I finished reading Les Miserables, it took me about a year and it was hard going but I did it. The thing is I really didnt enjoy it most of the time but once I started I just HAD to finish it! I'm glad I did though!

ETA that was supposed to read Moby "short for Richard" obviously!
