I mean, the roast chicken you get from supermarkets?
I want to make lunches for Shel for work from now on, eating healthy and being a good partner etc etc, and know that if we buy a large roast chicken theres enough for 3 meals, but not exactly sure if it would last (buy on Thursday night, eat chicken Thursday dinner, Friday lunch, Saturday lunch).
Do you think it would last? Can you freeze it? Or should i just buy a smaller chook and find a new lunch for Saturday?
yeah ild do that and eat on those days u said. as for freezing i do freeze cooked chicken, as for a whole roast chicken frozen i have not only because we eat it before then but a lady i know does buy them and freeze them whole when they go on sale and then just defrosts in it fridge and serves
I saw Safeway Roast chickens on sale for $2.00 !!! I bought 3, deep freezed all of them, last night I got one out, shreded it, put it with small amount of olive oil, lemon, garlic, lemon pepper seasoning, lightly fried it, and had it in souvalaki bread, ohhh yum ...
Yeah, I would definitely freeze it and use it later on. I have to freeze just about everything in this house or we'd end up wasting sooo much!! I find chicken (and cooked meat in general) tends to be a bit dry when thawed so just keep that in mind, lots of mayo or some other condiment (chutney, BBQ sauce, whatevs) to go with it will fix that right up
Or, you could do my mum's trick of defrosting the frozen chicken, then just chucking it in a suacepan with a bit of chicken broth and warming it up like that. It moistens it up really well and gives it a bit of extra flavour That way you can give your lovely girl a break from sangas and maybe do some rice or steamed vegies etc to take and warm up at work? HTH!!
