A week is too long for me. I wouldnt eat it. Sorry![]()
Hi Everyone
Just making a beef stroganoff, and just realised the sour cream I have in the fridge is out of date.
It seems to be ok - looks and smells as it should, but is there a way you can tell??
Am trying to avoid going to Woolworths on a Thursday (Ew) - but it went out of date a week ago
What do you think - I don't want to ruin my dinner
Thanks in advance![]()

If it's not growing and looks fine, i would use it! maybe i'm just off though!
mmmm don't think I would do a week past the date. maybe a day or so but not a week.
With other sorts of food, a day or two yes. Dairy, no never ever. Dairy is one of the few things that shops are absolutely not permitted to sell after their due date. Can you phone DH and get him to pop to the shops on his way home...you should be able to add the sour cream at the very last moment.
I definitely agree that a week over is too far gone... you don't want your gorgeous meal ruined by bad sour cream and people feeling unwell afterwards.
I don't add the sour cream to my stroganoff while it is cooking, I let people serve their own sour cream so that any left overs don't get spolied by the sour cream in it
I would use it! If it looks & smells ok then I wouldn't even think twice about the date personally![]()
Another off person here! If it looks, smells and tastes okay then I would use it. Things like yoghurt and sour cream I'm cool with being out of date.
Thanks everyone
As it turns out, I didn't have enough anywayand I had to take a drive to the petrol station.... so all of that for nothing!!!
Thanks for your thoughts anyway!![]()
