Question Diet coke, coke or none?

    Hi there,
(sorry mods, this is in the wrong spot! I thought it was general chat section pls move it if you can)
Who drinks diet coke/pepsi/fanta etc here? Or do you drink regular soft drink (full sugar)?
I drink diet soft drink but only because I am trying to lose weight and I put on weight easily! I probably have 2 glasses a day. My DF drinks about 5 glasses per day of Pepsi Max (diet)..! He drinks too much and I'd like him to only have 1 or 2 glasses per day if any... especially if TTC soon....
Just interested to hear how many of you drink diet and how many don't touch the stuff?

I know those artificial sweeteners like aspartame are bad news..... but I don't want to put on weight!
I just wonder what damage i am doing to myself by drinking it.... and if 1-2 glasses per day is OK?

I never drink it. Well, not never.. if there is nothing else available I will drink it, but I choose juices or water over soft drinks.
DH drinks it all the time though. He loves pepsi.

At the moment I am craving coke! So I have a can of coke a day eeek! Although I am starting to think maybe I am just addicted as I wake up at all times of the night thinking 'COKE!
I wont touch diet drinks as I have heard the sugar substitute in them are very very bad for you.

We drink Pepsi max DP drinks it all the time i prefer to just have a glass with dinner, otherwise i prefer juices, water or cordial. DP rathers pepsi max he says it tastes better than normal pepsi so thats y we get it!

DP's brother used to drink about 4 2litre bottles of pepsi max a day if not more until his doctor said that is really bad to drink that much even if it was diet! told him to limit himself!

yeah Blanchie me too.. i just have 1 glass at night with my meal.. i don't like pepsi max as much as my DF does...he just loves it. He drinks it instead of water!!

I would love to drink regular soft drink but i am just too scared i'll put on weight or get diabetes... i guess we just have to weigh up the benefits of each i guess hey....
I do like diet coke though.... there's also a nice diet softdrink at woolies/coles called "diet rite" and it's like $1.60 per bottle and it's in pasito flavour and it doesnt taste like its artificially sweetened at all!!!!

When I drink soft drinks I get regular ones, as most/all of the diet versions contain aspartame which I dont/wont knowingly eat.

Plus it makes your body crave carbs which doesnt help me out

When I'm trying to lose weight, like now, I dont drink it at all.

Haha it tastes more special out of a glass bottle doesnt it! I like Vanilla coke but even since falling pregnant it now it tastes flat and strange, so I have been sticking to normal coke. Hmmmmmmmm im off to buy one now

    Coke Zero drinkers here

I have one, sometimes two cans per day - Jen is a shocker for opening cans and having about half of it, putting it down somewhere and forgetting about it

we do the real coke thing - primarily because neither one of us really likes the taste of the diet ones (but then, i won't even drink pepsi!) - i would prefer water most of the tie - usually have coke at night with dinner - but only after i've had at least 2 L of water during the day - and half the time hubby finishes my can (i don't leave them around Abs - i have a hubby to finish them for me!!)

I drink diet softdrink now, mostly because the chances of developing a health side effect from being obese is much higher than the slim chance of developing a side effect from artificial sweeteners consumed in eeny weeny tiny doses. Having said that I probably only have one or two softies a week!

I've heard that artificial sweeteners stimulate your appitite and so you tend not to reduce your energy intake when drinking diet stuff 'cause you eat more. DH is convienced that Nutrasweet causes MS and various other nasty stuff, but you can find articles saying that & others refuting that claim. All I know is I feel icky if I have anything with artifical sweeteners so I avoid them. IMO you're better off drinking water instead.

I'm an avid Diet Coke drinker... and my DH loves coke. We would drink around 1 litre a day. I've drunk DC for as long as I can remember... and I didn't stop when I was TTC and I only cut down a little when I got pregnant. I am sure it had no effect at all on my ability to conceive. I was 37 when I first conceived and 39 this time.... and the odds should be against me - but I fell pregnant very easily without trying too hard. I don't drink tea or coffee or alcohol though, nor do I smoke. (my DH smokes).

I've also heard that low fat milk could impare conception.... but I only ever drink low fat milk - and have cereal every morning. So again; that was not a hinderence to my conception.

Personally I think losing weight would help conception more then cutting out diet coke. I lost about 8kg before getting pregnant the first time. Mind you.. I was 20kg heavier a year later - and still fell pregnant.

you think?? I would have thought both coke and diet coke have the same acidity - if not coke having more. I think that stuff could strip paint
And coke has the added evil of pure sugar which does not help anybody's teeth.

Again, with comparison to me & my DH... my teeth are as strong as nails... where as my hubby's are in shocking condition - needing 4 root canals recently.

As I said before, I think that weightloss helps conception more than not drinking particular beverages.
And when it comes to weight loss - water is the optimum drink - but I just can't stomach water...
Diet coke is better then coke (for weight loss)... and 1-2 glasses a day is nothing to worry about. Even in the "what to expect..." book they said that 'excessive' coke drinking was MORE THAN 1 litre a day! So I wouldn't panic too much with 1-2 glasses a day.

BTW... do you drink coffee as well??
I wonder if excess caffeine has any effect on conception?

I used to be a big Coke drinker. I avoided the diet stuff as I didn't like the taste.

Now I don't drink much soft drink at all. I tend to crave Coke around period time and will either have that or Lemonade. These days if I have soft drink I avoid the diet stuff because of the aspartame.

I tend to drink a lot of water during the day (2.5 - 3 litres) and so that helps holding my sweet tooth and cravings at bay

Jodie, I think too much caffiene can affect the swimmers, but not 100% sure on if it is true or just a wives tale.

Abs, check out Coles for the 12 pack of coke Zero in the little half size cans - I find it hard to get through a whole one too.

I drink coke Zero since they brought that out and hardly drink it in winter cause I don't like cold drinks when it is cold LOL, unless it is milk. When it is hotter weather, I might drink a can every two days and when I am on In-Liven I rarely drink it.
