Well been from NZ and DH is a maori (me too but you wouldnt know itim so lilly white)
hangi was always on the menu especially at big family events - tangis (funerals) weddings, 21sts etc.
Im not too fussed on them to be honest especially the traditional ground ones, I dont like the earthy flavour.
However give me a keg hangi (its steamed in a revamped keg instead of the ground pit) and im much happier. Doesnt take as long either in the keg and theres no big hole to be dug. Not that I do that bit anyway![]()
it was so long ago i cant even remember wat it tasted like lol but i would love to have another one
