Grocery shopping online?

Hi all,
I am in the Waverly area of Melbourne and am wondering whether anyone out there uses online shopping for their grocery shopping - eg Safeway, Coles, Fruit veg?
A couple of my new mum girlfriends swear by it.
If you use it how have you found it? Is it a help with little one/s in the house and with new routines etc?
Do you have a particular fruit/veg/butcher who delivers that you use?

I used Safeway homeshop this week and it was wonderful. I have been told by my ob to rest as much as I can and it did make a difference having all the shopping carried up the stairs to the front entrance way. Exciting for my kids - my little boy loved opening the boxes to see what was there and helping put stuff away. I also used to use Coles Online when I first brought my second-born home and that was great so I didn't have to take her and my son out to the shops in the cold. The Safeways website for home shopping is a little less slick than Coles - seems to have less product range and Coles have pictures to go with products you select. Apparently these services aren't profitable for the supermarket chains, but I guess the more demand and use the better they will be.

How much more expensive do you find the online supermarket shopping than actually going in to the store?

I use coles online most of the time and I occasionally use green grocer or Safeway homeshop. I use the coles one out of habit as it is the most user freindly one to use. I keep meaning to use the fruit and veg/butchers but I haven't so far.

I use it all the time now because I had spotting early on in my pregnancy and had to avoid bending and lifting. Before conceiving it stopped me spending to much with all the impluse buys and was great when I was busy.

we have one called bananablue here in Adelaide. Coles don't do it in SA yet and I actually worked out my shopping last night online and it was $240 for the week inc meat and delivery. Going to get roughly the same from Coles tonight and see what the difference is.

I have looked at banana blue before and got a bit sad cos it was only in adelaide

But thats a good idea Kathryn, I might work out my shopping online and then comapre it next time I go. It will be good to see how much I buy that was not on the list too, and see what impact the impluse shopping really has.

We have EzyShop and Groceryzone in WA. I have used EzyShop and it was great. I compared the prices to the catalogues from Coles and Woolies and they were pretty close. You would also save $$ by not implulse shopping and by menu planning.

There are lots of businesses popping up now doing this, which is great, as I would rather get groceries from Coles Online, then fruit, veg and meat from specialist places as I find the Coles Online stuff to be not as good sometimes and more expensive. It is such a lifesaver sometimes for me, I use it every few months. I find you save on impulse buying as well and its great if you want to plan meals.

I have been doing my grocery shopping online for 18 months and find it heaven. Mackenzie is a buggar to take shopping. She won't sit in a trolley and keeps running off so for the $10 delivery fee it suits me down to the ground. I also find it is cheaper because I only buy what I need and don't browse and buy stuff I don't really need. The only problem is I usually forget something so I get DH to stop on the way home but it's no biggie really. I also order on a Thursday for a Monday delivery so I get the exact time/day I want and don't miss out.

I've just started using Woollies (Safeway) Homeshop and it's been a godsend. They carry the groceries right into the kitchen for me which is great. I have found however that it's a LOT more expensive, and also the fruit and veg you can choose from online is pretty limited. Having said that you can request anything that you know they sell and they will add it into the order. However I've found you need to add in specific instructions like, "long use by date on the dairy items please" and I had one really slack order where they didn't send some of the extra things I requested but I got no explanation. I still much prefer to do my own groceries but it's a pretty good alternative.

I use one in Brisbane called FoodDirect (not sure if one word or two words) and I think they originated from down south somewhere.

I find their prices a little bit higher than the supermarkets, but their fruit/veges and meat are faultless, absolutely perfect. Although the prices are slightly higher, we find we dont make any impulse buys which saves us about $40-$60 per week (only what is on the shopping list). The two of us only spend about $90-$120 per week. The other thing I like about them is that they stock a wide range of known brands not like some of the others ....... I very rarely cant find what I'm looking for.

I have used Colesonline for a few years and i really like it. I find I spend less cause I am watching the total and can delete things I think we can do without if its getting too expensive. they also have the same specials as in the stores and a clearance aisle with further specials. I also like someone else carrying it into the kitchen too! I go to the butchers for meat usually and don't buy much fruit/veg online either.
