    Aaaahhhh.... illusion spoiled!

    I always imagined a factory filled with strong, handsome young men, all armed with skewers and delicately poking the holes in the top of my crumpets. Eating them will just never be the same again.

    I know the answer to this!!! They are a cross between a pancake batter (ie with baking powder) but they also have yeast in them.

    ETA - Just me - I"m *very* impressed!!! Can we have your recipe please, so we can all try it??

    I remember that my sister had proper crumpet rings (they are deeper than egg rings). Really wish I had them right now.
